Spectre 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2005 vBulletin is indeed a good forum package, but it is not free. And please stop spamming.
grnjd 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2005 Yes Vbulletin is not free, but you can also use Invisionfree. Its free and its a pretty good forum package. However, it doesn't have all the features of Vbulletin. But hey its free, and you don't have to buy it for hundreds of dollars. And I don't think Bulletin is the best, its all based on opinion. IMO i think Invision (not the free one) is equal or better then vbulletin

But the features of IPB it's a lot of them? How I think that IPB is much better then PhpBB but for PHPBB there are a lot of skins... For IPB are there free skins? If you have got links can you post it here please?
.hack//GU 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2005 Somehow, vBulletin is far superior than the others (IPB and PHPBB) I think. But, yes I've never seen it as free.
.hack//GU 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2005 Yes... that's free but so much of limitation if you go to free forums... I guess I need to implement it to my website myself if I want to see it works well.
Gyad 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2005 To : 3Tfanatics-You can get free IPB skins at http://www.invisionize.com/ To anima :-VBulletin is NOT free hence you can not find it on the internet, unless you get it illegally. You could try using IPB 1.2 thats already given to you at the Fantastico page of this host. Its quite good and better than InvisionFree. You could also use PhpBB, I heard its good too but I personally am not a fan of it.

I guess I need to implement it to my website myself if I want to see it works well. 197510[/snapback] Not nessecerily... There are packs of free forum hosters available on the net, some of them have almost no limitations on the space, bandwidth etc of your forum. Once, I was using InvisionPlus.net Free Forum Hosting, and I was completely sutisfied with it, as it offered unlimited space/bandwidth as well as a vast amount of features... It is worth trying it out
Juunior 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2005 actually phpBB just have some security holes, vBulletin is with good options and good security, IPB and invisionfree is also good.
DogEater008 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2005 i'm using smart forum machine (SMF).. and it quite nice and of course, it's free. And Xisto have the pre-install script for it so installing is just a matter of seconds. You could go to their support forum for help and request modification for the forum.it also compatible with coppermine gallery and mkportal.
JohnBoy 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2005 I have used most of them... I will review them belowSMF : Never used, sounds brill. A bit like YaBBseYaBBse : I used this alot. Its used by Proboards.com . It is really simple and easy to get around. Has some good features and addon hacks.Vbulletin : Never used, Sounds brill. I really want to use it. Features are just awsome, no wonder it is described as the mother of all forums!PHPBB : Used it loads then scrapped it. Cannot stand it. Too basic. I suppose it is good for people who are just starting out at owning and hosting a forum.Invision Power Board : The best forum I have used by far! Brilliant features and it runs fast on a slow server .Thats my opinions, I hope it will help everyone choose your next forum platform ^_^Btw... Please feel free to use my structure of review and do one yourself
J-C 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2005 well i have used all the ones you mentioned above also burnningboard (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) smf is the best free one NOW because IPB(invision power board) is no longer FREE!! sorry it was and they said they would never make it a product that you have to buy from them but they did and all other products by them are not free either i have invision power board i got the free version when it was there i really really love this board is awsome alot of features i loved it so much that i decided to buy it and have the non free version the new one 2.1 THE BEST ONE from them vBulletin got it too and i most tell you dude vBulletin is not free at all if do get it a nulled one well use it i dont care but you are at you'r own risk is really really awsome might be better than IPB actually yabbed and smf (simple machines) are kinda like the same the same people who developed yabb is the one that developed smf and is their biggest hits since i have use them both i should know and are kinda like the same the admin panel etc,oh yabbse is the same as yabb kinda but yabb is more advance.php i guess is cool but i dont like it that much and pro boards i hate it
Lyon2 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 I Guess that if you don't like the best forum wich is IPB, and also if you don't like the best free forum wich is phpBB, you won't like vbulletin also.I Don't understand why you don't like the ipb forum!I think you should try to express your reasons with the topic, because i don't really know how to help you.You need to put a litle effor in your topics, i mean, think of something interesting, and related with the forum you're about to post, cause vbulletin has nothing to do with freebies wich that's the forum we're at.Try the web wiz forum, search in google for it cause i can't remember the url of the home page, but i know that the url is something like:webwizforum.comwebwizforum.infoIf you want a free forum, use the phpBB forum wich is great, and there's tons of skins, hacks, plugins, etc..., wich you can find them at:http://www.phpbbhacks.com/ (all good and free)If you want to pay for one, pay for an invision power board (IPB), caise in my opinion, is the best there is on the www.Or, if you want a free ipb version, there's the 1.3 wich is free and if you want i'll send it to you, just private email me for it.Try to give more information on your topics next time, ok?! Spectre 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 Personally, I prefer vBulletin over IPB, but they are both good forum packages. It just depends on personal preference. I would say the best free forum is phpBB (as has been mentioned), but if you are in a position to put up some cash, you would be better off going for a commercial solution. Whereas phpBB is more widely used and supported than most other free forum applicatons that I know of, commercial packages usually come with priority support and other bonuses, and the authors are obligated to get on top of any security issues or other problems pretty much as soon as they become known. The phpBB people do an excellent job, but costs aside, it's not quite as good as the paid alternative.
