Several Cms@same Server is it posible?

Recommended Posts

Can i install (without having troubles) multiple cms at the same server, in the same folder? Im testing various cms in this hosting, but each one in its own separate folder, in order to have more aesthetic URLS, for example, i would like the news section address to be like this:mysite.com/newsInstead ofmysite.com/joomla/1/?p=1Or something like that... But i think if i install several cms they would overwrite each other or be incompatible... so please if anybody can give me further explanation ... thanks in advance!-10730

Can you rename the CMS folder to whatever you want it to be (e.g. instead of joomla, have news, instead of wordpress, have personal and so on) or do the CMSes always look for a particular named folder?

I understand, so it is not posible to have them in the same folder? i think i could use that, but i need to see which sections are going to be in which cms...

and about guangdian

I dont understand what you said, i mean the grammar, if you can write in spanish i also speak it, what i think you said is that why do i want to do that, its just i want to take advantage of some things about wordpress, and other things about other cms, im not much into cms but im learning...

The main issue about this question, as i said before, is for aesthetics urls, i want to be able to enter a given section with the logical way of typing the address, like news, directory, products, etc... I think that the proposal of Tyssen sounds interesting, still id like to know if this is possible... thanks!

Can i install (without having troubles) multiple cms at the same server, in the same folder? Im testing various cms in this hosting, but each one in its own separate folder, in order to have more aesthetic URLS, for example, i would like the news section address  to be like this:

mysite.com/news

Instead of

mysite.com/joomla/1/?p=1

You can definitely install in the same server as long as you have enough database in your hosting which you did. It means you can have. But you can't have different cms in the same folder.

If you want your news site to be in yoururl.com/news as long as you use cms you can't do it. You have to follow what programmers have coded, otherwise you would have built your own making news as just one folder away from the root site. But you can do it by redirecting yoururl.com/news to whatever url your news page is right now.

And also for different cms, you don't need to name each and every folder according to their cms name. mysite.com/joomla could be mysite.com/news/ it means you have to install joomla in news folder.

If you use different cms for forum and news, users will have to register two three times in your site which is not convenient nor desirable.

If you want your site to have mysite.com/news/ as news folder of index.php?option=com_content?sectionid=1 you could go for professional joomla optimization software offer by sites like sakic.net, but it is going to cost you much. So, there is very litttle options for you to have that way.

Another way to have yoursite.com/news is using cutenews content management with any other cms for other purposes. Lets say you use joomla for your main site. If you install simple machine forum as your forum, you could install in yoursite.com/forum and bridge it using mambohacks.com site which offers mambo-smf components. All you have to do is install joomla and smf in one database. And for news you could install cutenews 1.4 version in your news/ folder. If you do this, you dont need to use news section in joomla. Forum and other component of your site still remains together.

Or something like that... But i think if i install several cms they would overwrite each other or be incompatible... so please if anybody can give me further explanation ... thanks in advance!

Thanks dragonfly! im getting more and more into cms, and i apreciate your help with this.I found wordpress a nice introduction, to a more complex cms world, but still having troubles. I have already been able to learn how to (and actually) modify templates in wordpress, but i think its a little bit more difficoult with joomla or mambo for example.I think i would only use one cms, the one i find is better, easier but also the one that feets most of my needs for the given site. And i dont want to discard the possibility to still use wordpress, within just one section or within several sections, im still learning and will see how much does it fit, but i want to count wordpress in becouse it just surprised me all that you can do, how easy is to learn and to modify templates and the look and feel so easy... I know its the same with other cms but as wordpress is meant only for blogging, it gets more simple that others, at least thats what i know.I started working in a place where they made custom administrators for web content, very small ones and very specific for each task it had to get done, but they were a lot and they are still working, but i want to take all this a step further (or lots of steps hehe). By that time i never imagined that there existed global content management systems, so i guess thats where they got the idea in the first place. I was totally amazed, and by the fact that there were some of those free...Thanks again!
