niloc 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2005 Why do people download all this garbage?! From search bars to computer pals, cursor software to password remembering software, screensavers and so on without any care of what ALL they're download? Are people still so stupid they click on the advertisements for free cars and boats? You'd think with all the computers that people would know how to use a spyware destroyer or at least not download so much stupid junk. What would be the best sollution? commercials? or should we just mass spam like aol with their cupholders/cds? Any Opinions? 193867[/snapback] unfortunately some people just arent as clever as you are. remember when you did math and learned about averages ... mean , mode and median and you were shown the standard deviation graph. if you use the standard deviation graph along with the millions of computers sold woldwide , then it is obvious that everyone who owns a computer will not be as knowledgeable as you and is bound to donwload the wrong thing or click on the wrong advertisement from time to time. Goosestaf 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2005 you forgot the biggest soyware trap!Smiley Central! "improve your im and email with the next generation of smileys!"*shudders*well, like which has already been said many, many many times, its down to people being idiots They see somethign which says somethign and they believe thats what their getting. They don't stop to think why a website would pay a Hell of alot of money to advertise a free product, or think its too good to be true. I guess the people who click these links are also the same type of people who fall in for internet scams, open weird junk mail "giving" them free stuff and click to win free ipods (as well as having to join an online casino as part of the deal)the bottom line is, people who are too trusting It's best to be paranoid when using the net, its the best way of not getting spyware, viruses and Trojans.incase anyone doesnt have "protection" heres the best free solution. The All Mighty AD-AWARE

Mithshark 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2005 I'm not talking about spyware that exploits holes in your system (but, good protection and removal software takes care of that) Im talking about conciously downloaded programs, Like the stupiedest examples, Anything that teaches you how to hack (Its a lot bigger than you think) Do you honestly think that someone who can hack wont take the oppurtunity to *self censored* up your machine? Its like Yay, I spanked the monkey NOW GIVE ME MY FREE iPod! Then the sites like no you can have a iPod just spend some money online and click this and this and this and this and this and this.... And screw you pc up! ...Have fun if you want to win a free iPod by the way...

grnjd 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2005 Some people download the spyware and adware without knowing it. Most people are not computer illerate. They don't know much about computers or why their computers slow down so much. They don't even know what a spyware does or how to fix that problem. However, some people donwload stuff like limewire and kazaa at their own will knowing that there will be adware and spyware. Some download softwares like aol, which comes with a useless weatherbug. The people who should take the blame for all the spyware and adware are the makers and companies who wants to advertise. There should be a law if not already banning all forms of spyware. Then theres spyware from overseas....
jlhaslip 4 Report post Posted October 18, 2005 In my experience, the best way to have people learn about the importance of being careful about downloads is to have them get a really bad mal-warre which locks their machine solid. Believe me, it will change their habits. When a powerful, hard to remove set of malware won't let them do anything on the device and requires a major reset of the system (probably a hard drive re-format and re-install) most people learn from the experience. But not all of them. I have a friend whose machine gets locked up about every four months, but he still continues to D/l the stuff which harms the computer, so I have quit helping him to reset anything. I'm not certain he will ever learn from these experiences. Some people are just like that...
