SM, ur sig is fine now and i have no gripe with you, its just when ppl either have sigs ONTOP of each other, is when it becomes a pain in the *bottom*. Side by side is fine  becoz that doesnt mean ur having tos croll more, jus means a little bit of wiating times for low conection ppl.bassicly a point is, there shud be some rules so it doesnt happen. . . .so new ppl dont come on and have huge sigs etc.jus a suggestion to opaque maybe. . . :D like so many pixels total width, total height +how many line sof text.

Well signatures go much farther theses days. More to it then just writing something that spells a name. What's the point of that? Customization is key to the sucess of online communcation.

yes. . . .well i was only stating the basic point of the sig. . . . if it was called "communication area" then fair enuff, but it is bassicly there for you to show your name and about you to an extent.customization is the key to the success of online communication?. . . .
what are you trying to communicate in a sig?. . . its not a website. . . . its really not anythign complicated either. . . .
now i'm not saying a sig shud jus be ur name in text. . . but i'm saying u can customize without having to stick huge renders and smileys all ova ya sig.

i find signatures a place to advertise my site and show off some of my graphics. not to put my name and stuff @_@ but sometimes it can get annoying to have to scroll down so much because of someone's signature. if you're the admin of the board, you're allowed to modify the signature XDDD but then again, yeah, it'd be best to limit the size and amount of images that go in a signature, just to prevent so much scrolling X_X

now i'm not pointing any fingers or makign this personal, this is jsut a good example. . . .. even tho i'm sure the top sig is on a rotation, but i fink possibly the top one shud be asked to be removed, as its just too damn large. . . <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v175/Goosestaf/Sigcomplaint.gif; alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">

Sometimes a picture says more than a thousant words. This is why I would include a pic in my sig. But I don't agree with those huge sigs. Sometimes it's better to make a small, discreet, but well made sig which will surely impress the viewers than a huge sig that will annoy everyone. That's my opinion.

I hate to revive an old topic, but if you are on dial up and don't want to see out long sigs, there is hope :) .
1. Go to My Controls (find this at the top of every page).
2. Click Board Settings in the left-hand menu.
3. By the line reading:

Do you wish to view members signatures when reading topics?

Select the No option.4. Click Change My Account Settings to save this setting.
I haven't tested this myself, but if I understand correctly, it will just leave out sigs, no placeholders, just no sigs at all.

I've had signatures blocked for a long time. Sorry, everyonee- I know some of you worked hard on your pictures, but I think that I did it when I still had dial-up. There's a guy at another forum that I post at where there's a limit to how many characters you can have in your signature there so he justs pastes this huge thing full of links and a picture of himself (not good *shiver*) into every post he makes. ahhh! I have him on ignore but some people quote him so I've had to block all images from his site. Awful, just awful.

Just a note: that pasting the sig elements into your posts would not be allowed here. Most members respect that the credit system here serves a purpose and cheating it is not allowed. Xisto Rules do not permit such behaviour. Review the Readme and TOS if in doubt.

Re: Signatures in GeneralIt's come to the point where creating a signature requires a certain degree of design. I'm not just talking about creating sig banners; there's balancing images, text, and information in a manner that is useful but also pleasing.Designing is a skill, like drawing or writing. It can be developed. A certain percentage, however, in inborn, and the ability comes more naturally to some that others. Some people can easily balance elements because it fits naturally in their heads. These individuals are also more likely to be offended by bad designs because they can sense where improvements can be made - but are helpless to do anything.Ok, that last part was trying to nice-up the actual response. It's valid. So's "That's so ugly, I want to gouge out my eyes!!!". I sometimes get both. ^-^There's also the matter of WHAT to put into a signature that has to be considered. For some people, this is easy. There is only so much they want to share, so a quote will do. Maybe a link for something important or to advertise their site. For other people - and I fall into this category in a BIG way - personalizing elements are an almost necessary part of life. They have much to tell, much they want known, and much they want to know. Signatures become a forum for relaying that information relatively easily. A sig banner gives a visual representation of WHO they are; quotes sum up intangible qualities; and then there are things to brag about such as contests won, friends that deserve recognition, and information you think people should REALLY know.I told myself early on that I'd allow myself ONE sig banner, because that's the design my asthetics lean towards. A few lines of text, but trying to balance readability with small size. This rule means that I'm QUICKLY going to have to get a sig rotator, because once I start making stuff I can live with, I KNOW I'm going to go nuts with it.So keep an eye on my sig, and yell at me if it gets too big! I'll do my best to restrain myself! ^-^
