biscuitrat 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2005 I was trying to set up some FTP accounts and I got those done all right. But when I try to go to the FTP section of my site to try signing in and uploading, it gives me a 421 error and won't let me set up an anonymous FTP. I've poured through everything and I've had this problem for a while. Any of you guys know some quick fixes?

biscuitrat 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2005 Basically, it won't let me connect to the FTP, saying there's a 421 error - unable to set up secure anonymous FTP. It's pretty weird
guangdian 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2005 you mean on the cpanel.. ftp accounts?just recreated the account, but not using anonymous ftp,i think you need use the username and password.i'd ever created the ftp account according the cpanel ftp account..then it must be using the FTP account but i think anonymous ftp would got some safe risk even it avalible.guangdian
biscuitrat 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2005 Well, what I'm trying to do is set up an account for some people I host to upload files into their directory. However, I've set up the accounts but I can't access the FTP server for the accounts. My own personal account works but it's not like I can give them my user name and password or anything. It's just one of those things

It's pretty weird 184447[/snapback] If its a Cpanel account and anonymous FTP is enabled, You'll see a linkin the FTP Manager area of the control panel, if its there, you'll be able to setup the welcome message, allow uploads etc. Have you tried logging in as anonymous@yourdomain.extension? Replace yourdomain.extension with your real domain and extension. If you click on Add/Manage FTP accounts you will see a few already made for the main account by the system (not deleteable) they usually are ftp.yourdomain.extension and anonymous@yourdomain.ext and possibly some log directories where you can ftp to download your access logs for your website. Also, if your account has the capability to add other FTP accounts, remember that only the main account can use the cpanel username and password for ftp.yourdomain.extension, anyone else has to use their full email address as their username and their assigned password. I believe that the reason this error occurs in a Cpanel system that has anonymous access enabled is that a user named anonymous already exists Anyway, I hope this helps you out.
