SilverSoldierTT 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2005 Hopefully I am not the only one experiencing this, and one of you can help me figure it out... I run a cable modem, so I surf the web using IE... However, every so often, generally right when I am doing something important as my luck goes, all of a sudden every IE window closes without giving any reasoning or error messages... Does anyone know either how to fix it, or why this happens? I am not using a proxy, router, or anything like that, and my PC is virus free, and scanned each day for ad/spyware... any ideas? dontmaimyourself 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2005 Right please understand that I am not trying to slate Microsoft or you personally, but I really honestly suggest using firefox, now I am guessing you get this alot, but firefox is a better browser, its safer, faster and just plain better. In case you dont know it can be found here:https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/ ;and a site I like to use to help people identify some of the main problems with IE:StopIE.comI hope this has convinced you; but at the end of the day the choice is yours and if you do not want to use firefox, or indeed another alternate browser, then that is entirely up to you, I can just make this (hopefully, because it's how I intended it) friendly suggestion. midnightvamp 1 Report post Posted May 24, 2005 I've had some strange problems with IE, yet I usually still use it. Who knows why? I don't know... I have Firefox on this computer too :lol:Anyway, I've also had the same thing you've mentioned happen to me, where all the windows close for no apparent reason. I'm not sure what causes this, but it is very frustrating. I don't use cable, but I'm broadband - I think that is what it's called. I'm not quite sure about all this technical stuff.Anyway, I'm not sure about this other things... and it is just as mysterious to me. Sometimes, when I'm on IE, all my windows suddenly scroll to the top of the page, and then no matter what I do, they won't scroll back down to the bottom (or anywhere down for that matter) unless I restart my computer.I was thinking maybe it was a sticky 'up' arrow key, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm not sure, but it does seem to suggest that IE likes to have certain mysteries about it...
Galahad 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2005 I've been using IE for...hm... for about 7 or 8 years now, and I only had one problem with spyware on it. For this particular problem, I would suggest spyware, or some serious error in IE code, that for some reason is not reporting any errors. Try downloading CWShredder to check for CoolWebSearch spyware, maybe they created a new version that closes IE windows... It's free, and is specialized just in CWS searches... Try also running more anti spyware programs one after the other, because they can overlook spyware sometimes... I had my IE windows close all at the same time, but it always showed some kind of error message... I would bet 90% on some spyware or similar malicious software, and only 10% on some internal IE error... I will ask arround if someone had similar problems, and see if they solved it. If you are not like me, you can switch to Firefox, and that should solve this problem. I on the other hand, am so stubborn, that when more and more people tell me to do something, I say no, more and more... Probably not so good, but hey, that's me

SilverSoldierTT 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2005 lol... yea... im definitely going to have to do something... its starting to become more of a persistant problem... I appreciate the responses you guys have had... and since they all pretty much point to spyware, i feel pretty secure in at least testing that theory... I am going to be using some of the links you have given me for sure, though with how frustrating it is starting to get, im strongly considering just saying forget it and uninstalling IE for good... too many problems for its own good... I mean, when u cant even keep a window open for more than two minutes, it kinda defeats the purpose, ya know? I mean, especially when I am paying like $50 a month for cable internet to do just that... well grr... but hey, thanks again... i appreciate the rapid responses and help... iGuest 3 Report post Posted March 22, 2008 Replying to SilverSoldierTTIf you have checked for viruses and "adware", clean out your"Temporary Internet Folder", and still you are getting a shutdownOf your IE Windows, sometimes for no apparant reason,The cause could be either toolbar browsers that have been added,E.G. "megaupload, rapidshare, PopupCop, MS, or any of the othersThat add a toolbar browser to your IE. IE does not handle theseBrowsers and toolbars that attach themselves to it, mainly becauseOf "java" scripting conflicts. To solve your problem you must "uncheck" the use of "third partyBrowsers"; to do this go to "tools, then to "advance", then Uncheck: "enable third party browsers."Be aware that you may not get to use the additional add-onToolbars you may be used to (especially if you have a "Pop-Up" stopperOn you IE browser, but, at least you won't be shutting down IE windowsOr "downloads."-reply by lumin4
