Need Weapon, Armor, Upgrade, Etc... Ideas for a KoC mod for phpBB...

Ok, well I am developing a Kings of Chaos modification for phpBB. I need help designing the actual finer details like weapons, armor, spy tools, sentry tools, upgrades, races, etc... Here is what I have thought of, recomend if an item should be ranked more powerful (currently weakest to strongest in each category)

For the races how about some combination bonuses like mistif (spy and attack), force (attack, defense), covert (spy and sentry), protection (sentry and defense), passivism (sentry, defense and casualties). On issue wouldn?t the somewhere in the gamming (perhaps the army system) or programming (perhaps game programming) form be a more appropriate place for this topic?

For crying out loud, add in some modern day things like ages.. each 2 weeks it advances. Eg:Ancient AgeClassical AgeMedivial AgeGunpowder AgeIndustrial AgeModern AgeALIEN AGEEvery 2 weeks it will advance and for you to go up you need to pay ALOT of cash so it will be an extra factor to the race for survival and to be the top! Every upgrade gives a user a big boost, abilities to upgrade attack solider from medival to a redcoat or a continential marine when gunpowder, or tower to lighthouse, or battlefort to rebout.Get it?

Also, adding in new types of units would be awsome! Like with soliders and defense, you can have ranged or gorilla warfare units, or even extra powerful suicide spies who go in with a "bomb" and will always have a devistating effect but at 60% more likely to get caught then a spy.. makes you think about Covert Ops and how you will use it..See, if you had a team of coders, you can make a very fun, and actually tactical game.. unlike the ArmySystems that currently exist :lol: Not many options, sorry if I offended the ArmySystem :)Also you should have "Race upgrades" each 2 age advances to improve your bonuses or use that upgrade to instead CHANGE your race.. wouldnt that cause alot of strategy changes :P

Hmm you should try to keep it simple, too much add-ons would make the game noob unfriendly. What would be cool is that you could built your castle from scratch, and be able to add things to it (Like extra walls, towers, fortified walls, water etc..) . Or just upgrade the entire castle...

Yeah what you have seems fine the way it is because it already has a lot more features that would allow many noobs to get killed mercilessly without very many limitations.

Yeah, I like that idea, I need ideas for actual races to fill them though, and I want to try to keep them as Midevil/ Lord of The Rings based as possible...

Hmm, no I want to still keep it Kings of Chaos based to some level, Ages could be added, but they would still be midevil/Lord of The Ring themed, it could be possible I could create an addon to add more wepons and stuff every now and then so people could have differing ages, but not different to that degree...

Yes, that was my idea for the Sentry Technology, you wouldn't buy them as upgrades in the normal manner, but have a section called sentry technology in the armory (not the regular sentry section) where you could buy any of the sentry technology thing (only once) and install them sort of to your fortification.

For attack, defense, and spy this would work too, we just need to think of things that don't completely change the fortification or seige type, but add to whatever it may be. :lol:

Oh yeah, like add to the list of training possibilities (attack specialist, defense specialist, spies, and sentries) so there are more, this is a good idea, I like it...]

You could also have spy and sentry mercenaries, and for the training types we could add a number of things.

 

But... we must make these training types relative to midevil times/ lord of the ring.

Maybe you can also add a "chain", like KoC has, meaning you can make people your commander and/or people your officers. It's more like a helping hand thing, so allies would be notified somehow if attacked. Also a clear way to seperate allies from foes.Maybe a kinda buddylist? So you can "tag" people with Friendly, Neutral, Enemy and Alliance Member :) Ok all these ideas came from there :lol:Peace

Hmmm, from the list, I can see that we have very little magical-themed items. Take the spy technology. Parachutes? Hanggliders? Sounds too modern to me. How about: Cloak of Invisibility, Levitation Boots, Armor of Silence, Acid, Displacer Beast Cloak, Swords to Plowshare Spell Scrolls, Large Owls, Ring of Darkness. If you need more, I don't mind plowing through my ol' AD&D books and generate some more interesting name. :lol:

Sounds good GM :lol:. You are way ahead of me on the curve on this one. I too would like to play around with the army system code to see how I could modify it. Of course stage one is to run the army system and to do that I have to first download apache. Do you enojoy doing this buy your self or would you like to develop it as a team. Maybe if I ever get going we could share code and graphics and stuff.

Now that army system started taking up to much of the processing power on the server I am going to have to rethink about how to mitigate that problem. If I ever start play around with an army system, here are some solutions I might try: Use more client side procession (might be possible with the use of some encryption scheme or error checking). Limiting the number of users (Perhaps an invite system?) . Add computer players (This would add to the server side processing but reduce the communication bandwidth). I was thinking perhaps the computer players could be optimized via a genetic algorithm. The more successful the computer player the less likely it will be reset. The best computer players will be archived and used as parents for future computer players.
