What I'm talking about is a favicon. I've never really used them, but you can find out more at http://www.favicon.com/

Download a free Icon program and create a 16x16 pixel icon and name it favicon.ico

Up load it to the same directory as your index.htm file and it should show up. If not you might have to put the following in the head section of your index.htm file.

<link rel="icon" href="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/;

copied from site forum....

Cool, Thanks for the tip and the web address. I'm probably going to be the only one in my web design class with a favicon. Also, will it show up on every page? I'll probably use my own icon though with a picture of a shield or arrow.

Here is a link to a Xisto tutorial.
http://forums.xisto.com/topic/28094-how-to-install-a-favicon-yup-a-favicon/&
Graphic size is 16 x 16 px. Irfanview is a Graphics tool which can save ico formats and is a free download.
Favicons do not work properly in all Browsers.
(you guessed it, IE mostly)

So glad you asked this question. I am using the information to create my favicon.ico. Happen to have IrfanView already. Just ran it up and see that iE doesn't show it, but netscape does. Oh well, some people will see it anyway. Do you need to add the directive to any other pages than the index when you have a large number of pages on your site?

fevicon.icoWhere and How to put tiny logo in the Address Bar
I use this in my header section. In the begning I uploaded well the Icon but somehow I lost favicon display in URL: I try almost all the Script but couldn't, then I did something like this.

First deleted all the files from server.
1, Click Computer start button-> open control pannel-> open internat option-> deleted all the temperory internet files, also files and setting stored by add-on ->

Then upload the favicon.Ico to same index directory with this code in header section

To make favicon icon use below link, can make 32x32 no problem.

Please do not forget to change your URL address in the above script.

Hope it works for you.

Thanks
