iGuest 3 Report post Posted December 8, 2004 Yeah, but that can cause problems with holidays, etc. So there should be a limit, say a month, if theres no new posts an email is sent to the person asking what is going on and giving them one more month to reply. Another email should be sent when there is a week left, just in case. And then, thats account deleted. Two months is quite a while to post something about a snooker game or something, anything. iGuest 3 Report post Posted December 8, 2004 The word 'Active ' should be defined with clear boundaries....... when I say boundary i mean lines, when I mean lines I mean number of post per week, or per day.... etc... I agree completely... there should be very clear boundaries. I would like to extend that idea as well... there should be some warning or probationary period before accounts become inactive. The real active member:Though his posts may be 1, 2, or 20.. yet he only replies to say something positive or helpful. This contributes to the forum strength and power.. Also, he may just have a request or a thank you.. and he's totally useless.2. The high post count member:Though his posts are usually 50, 100, or even more... This doesn't indicate he's a of real support or help.. And also it doesn't indicate the opposite.. simply it's not an idicator!!!I have seen many forums who's members are active in this way:a post = hi (no need to say hi anyway..)a post= thank you (He was not asking the question in the first place)a post = bye bye ( is he traveling some where? it's a forum for God's sake)And what about locking the topics? I asked a question and someone answered and it was locked.. :evil:This forum is a hosting service forum.. Or a more mild and acceptable version of it, that every post has a plus and minus sign somewhere wich you click when you feel the post is good/bad quality. Mine was too.Then I saw a moderator telling another user that he's account was removed because he only has 5 posts... 2 before this topic...When I tried to clarify why mine was closed (may be for the same reason) He said u missed alot and server crashes.. etc and he closed the topic..What is it with you guys and closing the topics??? for me, I wont post anything if I am not able to reply to my own post and ask more.. When the server starts filling up the weeding will need to start but everyone gets a chance to be an active part of the community and not get culled later on.Getting a topic closed is not the end of the world. That is part of the mod job. Peeps go off on a rant that is also well covered elsewhere - nobody's perfect, - that's still cool. Being helpful doesn't get closed. Sometimes asking for help that others need too can be a big help.N00bs sometimes ask the strangest things in the strangest ways, that is part of the learning. Everybody was a n00b once and everybody still is in their own way. A good community is about learning.This is a good debate about self-definition of the FNH community but remember a cool community is peeps, not scripts and numbers. Great posts, zzzz posts and spam are all part of it. This isn't a group of academic scientists sharing the data of their last research project to save the world (or kill it). We have Elder members and n00bs and all inbetween. The mods are very generous and you get the best help from members when you need it. Peeps also share the coolest stuff about what they're into. Thus, some people, in order to climb in the ladder of member's category post a lot. This is to say that they do not work to help the community, they work for an indicator, the number of posts. Fortunately, FNH does not request a predefined number of posts to assign a Free Web Hosting. Which is very nice and a confirmation that , as many of you say, the number of posts does not tell anything. It could happen that a member post not as much as the average but when this person does it, posts a quality article. How do you measure quality in a post? There is no indicator, suitable for a computer, to represent quality. So a human should intervene. Which means someone should read the articles to evaluate the quality of them.
