  1. sorry bud, you are way out of line. first off, this thread had nothing to do with being a success online. it had to do with someone creating a webmaster forum and wanting a review of it and possibly get some input and signups so it can grow.

    You should read more carefully.

This is Website Showcase forum where people advertise their websites to the world and there's another forum called Website Reviews. Now that's where all the reviews go. Looks like you got these two mixed up.

obviously the guy you just replied to DOES know how to use the internet. he's been posting here for a while.

    Buy yourself a sarcasm detector.

and just for your records.....not to blow your mind or anything, i was a webmaster before those forums ever existed. so in fact, you don't need forums to be a webmaster. your logic is very very silly. you should actually read what you write before you post what you do.

Can you please quote me saying one needs a forum to become a webmaster?

I said if you haven't heard of internet's biggest webmaster communities then I doubt you being a serious webmaster but that doesn't mean you need to be active in such communities in order to be called a webmaster. Microsoft was there before show were held but today they still advertise their services and products on IT events. I don't have a website and I'm an affiliate manager. I make quite some money but I would definitely made much less if I wouldn't be active on forums.

as far as the off topic you constantly bring up with success on the internet and being a webmaster, yea, there is LOTS involved. more than i mentioned and a heck of a lot more than you mentioned although what you mentioned is also a good start. all i was trying to say is everything anyone does starts with a dream or vision and you don't even have to be a webmaster. that's life in general. what i say isn't some fairy tale. it's real life. if people don't have dreams or visions or goals for their own selves, they are just biting their time here until they die. sad part is, people like you and the people closest to them often stomp on their beliefs and dreams and visions and want them to comply with the standard of society or a general belief that some people think everyone should follow. sound like anyone you know?

No, doesn't ring a bell. Sorry.

I really don't want to do a copypasta on myself and spam this forum so please read my last post, it's the answer to your last paragraph. Thanks.

  2. name one person who has built something without a dream or a vision please.

i HAVE heard of them. in fact, all of them. i may have even visited 1 or 2 5 years ago or so without remembering. i AM in to websites and i AM a webmaster. i learn and teach myself as i did when i was learning programming languages long ago. yea, it be easier not to make the mistakes others have and follow the strict advice of others by listening or reading a book, but i choose to take the hard road with little exception. with that, i'm sure i know things other people don't and never will. i also know things that other people will never talk about if they DO know certain things.

his site is a waste? why do people need to reinvent the wheel? well bud, it's not reinventing the wheel. it is trying to make something better that has already been done. i remember a long time ago when someone tried to reqruit me for an amway meeting. sounded interesting. after the meeting, a lightbulb went off in my head. if i join, i am going to publish amway on the internet. this was about 9 years ago or so. what i was told was this. "don't change what has already been working for years". also, "do not try to reinvent the wheel. i heard so much crap from closed minded people it wasn't even funny. nobody had vision....NOBODY i talked to. 1 or two years later amway was on the internet and growing drastically in size. my point to this story is obvious.

i have to defend someones idea and effort and hard work against people like you who have no insight to what really goes on in the minds of creative people and innovators.

please email me your website, i am sure i can review it for ya :) i've been doing this and other things related for years. you can say what you want about me with absulutely no knowledge of who i am. that's ok. for years my credibility has been top totch with very little arguement or disagreement. i've helped tons of people just starting out learning how to build a website to people to people who are already established and need seo. granted, i've fallen behind online due to my two offline business, but the basics will always be the same.

before you try to discredit someone who is in the top 5% in knowledge base, i would sugest you do your research and open your mind a little. also, instead of being so subjective, why don't you lend a helping hand out with something helpfull that you can add to help his site grow or just visit it and give an honest review

And you try not to spam this thread by posting spiritual crap collecting points for your free hosting. One thing is making things better and another thing is copying the rest and picking up their crumbs thinking you will make the world a better place. Wake up, this isn't a Wonderland where stories of yours make people cry and congratulate you on your success, this is simple logic of online business. You can't succeed online just by being enthusiastic about something. You need much more that. You probably haven't heard of it but some people call it RESEARCH, MARKET, TARGET, PLAN, ORGANIZATION, STRATEGY, INVESTMENT and PATIENCE.

bsdpowa, people don't need to visit webmater forums to be a webmaster.

i had my first site in early 2005.

the first time i had ever heard of the concept of a webmaster forum was in 2007.

    does that say something?

    A200

Yes, that says you don't know how to use internet.

  3. one thing i hate the most in this world is closed minded people. everyone starts from scratch and the beginning. the true geniuses can turn nothing out of something. always remember that. if people had your outlook, yahoo would still be the site people search from. not google. i remember when google first came online as a search engine. it was NOTHING!

    True. I agree with that.

my point is, there are resources everywhere. there is something to learn from everywhere. do you think all webmasters go to the sites you just listed?

    Yes.

do you think that ust because he's small and trying to grow there isn't something to offer that hasn't already been offered?

    Yes.

you knew all those sites you listed but still closed minded and subjective. that's not the attitude of people who have created great success. sorry bud. success takes a dream and the motivation that is built on that dream. it takes an idea from a dream that may not be anything to anyone but them at first.

Stop dreaming and come back to reality. Sorry, 'bud'.

so, congratulations on YOUR excellent job.....let's note that he definately isn't talking to himself when you had it in yourself to reply to him with so much sarcasm and negativity.

personally, i have never visited the sites you listed but know more than most about any topic in regards to webmasters and their issues AND i will be visiting his site after i finish with this post.

If you haven't heard of DigitalPoint, SitePoint, V7N, WTalk and WickedFire then I seriously doubt you're into webmastering and I wish you all the best on his newly created forum. I'm sure you have enough knowledge to share over there.

i'm curious. out of all those sites you listed, which is the biggest? why didn't you just list the biggest with the most information unless i am correct that information and resources aren't limited to a select few forums?

You're unable to click links or something?

    good talkin' to ya....

btw- i do think he got the message....you didn't like what he created or had to say. *I* say anything that someone creates or their vision should NEVER be disputed!

I never said I didn't like his forum, I just think it's a waste of VBulletin license. Why do you need to reinvent the wheel? Visualize as much as you wish and create as much as you wish but please be creative and make something we haven't seen hundreds of times already. Would you go out and try to beat Wikipedia or Youtube?

I think it's cute of you to defend his idea of making yet another webmaster forum but you fail @ business.

  4. How is Knol a competition? It's not near to Wikipedia.I would have to agree with klusk on this one. I would also say nobody can beat Wikipedia in what it does but since this is Google, who knows. They are full of surprises. Anyway, Knol looks more like a knowledgebase and not like encyclopaedia so I don't see how it would compete with Wikipedia directly. What I like about it is an option of comments and rating of articles (knols) and it's not true articles will be closed to public editing. This is totally up to the author as he will be visible to everybody.

  5. Why do you ask us here for an opinion? You have them both, try them. Nobody can decide better than you because you have an option of trying and reviewing both scripts so after you're done with testing you should know what to choose. If I had to choose, I would go for IPB due to better stability and safety but that's only my personal opinion.

  6. Kurisu, you can play WOW-like games but nothing compares to World of Warcraft and you know that. Why don't you try playing on private servers? You won't have to pay anything to play there. You can find private servers here

    http://www.xtremetop100.com/world-of-warcraft
    http://www.wowstatus.net/
    http://www.gtop100.com/topsites/World-of-Warcraft

Each of those three websites have links to private servers as well as stats and patch requirements. Make sure your WOW client is updated to the supported patch for your desired private server because some servers are up to date with regular Blizzard servers and some are not so it is important to check what patch the server supports before trying to join.

You find a list of top private World of Warcraft servers on this website: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

  7. Yes they are and they're completely free. I'll paste some links of websites with freeware and abandonware games:

    http://www.bestoldgames.net/eng/
    http://www.squakenet.com/
    http://www.dosgames.com/
    http://www.abandonia.com/
    http://www.oldgames.nu/
    http://www.gamingdale.com/
    http://www.freeoldies.com/index.php
    http://www.oldschooldos.com/
    http://oldgames.se/

This brings so many memories from my youth and the times of NES and SEGA. I can recall countless hours behind these two consoles playing games all day long with my friends. NES and SEGA were the only true hardcore consoles for hardcore gamers and not like this newday crap called XBOX360 and Playstation 3. I know I can't compare those consoles by performance but the gaming experience back then was so much genuine than now. Today it's all about graphics.

  8. stojke, please list some popular commercial 3D games coded in C#.

C++ is most used programming language perfect for almost every occasion. It doesn't require no framework and it's operating system independent which means the code is transferable and reusable on different operating systems. If you want to make your own RPG, consider learning C++ first and then move on to graphical libraries such as DirectX, OpenGL. After you play with those for a while you can move on to 3D engines such as OGRE, Crystal Space...

So if you don't have problems adjusting and you learn new stuff with a speed of light I think it shouldn't take more than few years before you get the concept of programming 3D games. Until then, work hard and please try to ask for help on your problem specific community forums because you just might get pointed in the wrong direction. In this case, this would be GameDev.

Oh, by the way, if you have few extra hundred bucks you could also consider GameInstitute. Good luck on your RPG creating adventure!

  9. You mean a Javascript text scroller? There are scripts all over the internet, just Google for them. Here's what I've got after 5s of work (including going to Google and typing "free javascript scroller" and clicking on the website and copying the code). But if you're looking for what that website runs, just go to http://www.jezgra.org/ and click on EDIT -> VIEW SOURCE and copy the Javascript code.

<!-- TWO STEPS TO INSTALL SCROLLING TITLE BAR: 1. Copy the coding into the HEAD of your HTML document 2. Add the onLoad event handler into the BODY tag --><!-- STEP ONE: Paste this code into the HEAD of your HTML document --><HEAD><script LANGUAGE="JavaScript"><!-- This script and many more are available free online at --><!-- The JavaScript Source!! http://javascript.internet.com --><!-- Asif Nasir (Asifnasir@yahoo.com) --><!-- Beginvar scrl = " Put your own message here! This is great! ";function scrlsts() { scrl = scrl.substring(1, scrl.length) + scrl.substring(0, 1); document.title = scrl; setTimeout("scrlsts()", 300); }// End --></script><!-- STEP TWO: Insert the onLoad event handler into your BODY tag --><BODY onLoad="scrlsts()"><p><center><font face="arial, helvetica" size"-2">Free JavaScripts provided<br>by <a href="http://javascriptsource.com">The JavaScript Source</a></font></center><p><!-- Script Size: 0.88 KB -->

  10. Count me in.

Firefox 3 is a lot faster than the previous version. It's also more stable, less memory hungry and the bookmark system is just brilliant. There's one thing I didn't like in Firefox 3 and that's a really dumb address bar so I had to download an add-on that converts the new address bar to the one from Firefox 2. It's called oldbar and can be downloaded here. Overall, results met the expectations and I'm even more happier user of Mozilla Firefox.

  11. Hello,

Searched through the forum but didn't find any hits on how to do this.

I've designed a page that has an embeded flash movie (*.swf format). The page works great when I test it on my local server but when I post it on the net the movie (about 2 megs in size) takes a while to load. Is there any way to stream the movie as opposed to have the browser download it all at once? Any other suggestions to speed the loading of the page? Thanks in advance.

Of course you can do this and you don't have to pay for it. What you're looking for is a flash player script just like the one Youtube uses to watch streaming videos without download them first. Hottest FREE FLV player out there is currently JW FLV Media Player 4.0 and you can even change skins.

The JW FLV Player is an easy and flexible way to add video and audio to your website. It supports playback of any format the Adobe Flash Player can handle (FLV, MP4, MP3, AAC, JPG, PNG and GIF). It also supports RTMP, HTTP and live streaming, various playlists and captioning formats, a wide range of settings and an extensive javascript API. The brand new skinning functionality allows you to completely customize its looks!

Be sure to check this thread on Winamp forums about streaming Shoutcast through flash from your website.

  12. A lot of skins and mods, a large community, a pretty looks and no cost at all... It all sounds very nice but people don't go buying IPBs and VBs for no reason, there is a major reason they (including me) decide to purchase commercial solutions and that reason is security. How many times have you seen IPB get hacked and how many times have you seen phpBB get hacked? Don't tell me those nice little stories about cool skins and free mods, security is what counts.

Ask Xisto, DigitalPoint, SitePoint, V7N and other forums with tens of thousands of users why they don't run free software? Do you really think they can afford their forums with 150,000 members get hacked? I don't think so and here I rest my case.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I think phpBB3 is nice for running your own forum for your friends or a very small community nobody gives a damn about but definitely not for commercial purposes.

  13. I don't believe you'll find help here. You really should ask them (phpIzabi) via support forum or a ticket although this looks like a PHP issue. Are you sure you have set file permission as you should?Did you create the database first and then try to install phpIzabi?Looks like you don't have permission to access /home/kasiks1/tmp. Check if the directory is writable and if it has space left. What PHP version do you have installed on your server? Can you paste the first few lines of index.php here? Try to change the "session.save_handler" to be set to FILES and *not* USER.

  14. The only way to make money online is to find out something worthwhile others have not yet discovered and tell nobody about it. A great business idea, even better business plan, money and a lot of time is what will get you succeed online. Forget these time wasting spamming methods like automated video sites, automated wordpress blogs, pay to click websites and so on. Stop wasting time.

  15. Are you freakin' kidding me!?This is the most crappy website I have ever seen in my life! What the hell is that? And you dare to say you have been programming for a year? Your father actually uses this for his own business!? I would rather live in a house without doors than order services from your dad. Tell him that.First of all, your website starts with an address - yes that's a domain name and domain name should be SHORT and easy to remember and not 255 characters long. I didn't even bother to try to read what it says, I just clicked the link. I guess you chose that for your SEO campaign so it has a purpose, that's actually very good but you should get yourself another domain, the one which you will have printed on your business card. Both should point to your website. It has to be short and catchy.Next, the design. You really left me speechless. I have nothing to say about this piece of junk you call a layout. I bet my 80y old grandmother who has never used a computer before would do a better job than you did right there. I'm sorry to be harsh, you asked for it but I should really be yelling at your father because he's the one who allowed this to represent his company. Have you ever heard of first impression? If you attract clients via internet you should be really freakin' cheap because I don't think anyone would ask for services a guy who can't put a decent website online. When the website finished loading I said to myself "GOD PLEASE LET THIS BE A JOKE". I can't believe it, really. What is that actually? It's a black and white webpage with boring font and a web counter. Why did you save on colors, did you think your monitor will brake down? Links on the left took me to big low quality pictures and your contact page is awful. Plain php script with no background and Coppermine is default installation with their own logo header up there.Couldn't you use a web template? There are hundreds of thousands web templates freely available on the web, you could use them and base your website on them because what you've got right now is really sad. Also, remove the counter and install Webalizer or something similar. You don't want your potential clients to judge you based on how many visitors you have. After what I've seen here I can just advise you to find yourself another hobby because if that's all you've got after a year of programming then you really SUCK! Pay someone to design the website for you or ask a friend or something. If you won't be able to find any help you can PM me and I'll help you out but please take your site offline because it's a disgrace for mankind.Note: I'm just a reviewer and perhaps I have higher standards than others but this is only my personal opinion so don't take it seriously if you feel offended in any way. Just skip it.
