  1. Time is just a hypothetical quantity. It was created by man to understand and measure the rate of the changing of the environment around him.

The earth does not revolve around the sun in one year, but the period taken for the earth to complete one revolution around the sun is called one year. Like wise one single day is when the earth revolves around it's own axis once completely.

The world around us always change. Even we human beings, beasts, trees and plants, even rock, soil, space and air and everything else change. for man to understand these changes and to measure their rates of changing, with evolution man created a hypothesis or theory (not sure what is right) called time. They named things that happened always as a different quantity.

For examples, a complete single revolution of the earth around the sun was called a year. The occurring of a full moon was named a month and the rising of the sun was named a day. Then this day was further sub divided in to hours, minutes and second for man's convenience.

Therefore one cannot truly grasp the subtle meaning behind time, because it isn't something which is really there. It is simply man made.

Of course this is what I think of Time.

So time does not really exist and it is just a concept? That is interesting. That is what some of the greatest zen masters, like Dogen Zenji, said.

I think you have an interesting insight, but what makes you think or feel that way?

I have this pervasive feeling that time exists, but at the same I am puzzled by its very existence. Just the fact that time exists is a little perplexing to me. I know some of you may think, this guy is really weird, but hey, that is what I think and I am willing to take the risk on Xisto because there are an unusual number of open minded people around here, and I cannot find people to talk about these things in my physical neighborhood.

  2. Well i need the DNS records setted in the registrar so I can use google apps with it. change the cname,mx, srv and such..

Now im wondering what is the proper @ and www record to be used for add-on domains?

I just copied the IP(shared) posted in my cpanel and typed in the @ and www record on godaddy control panel(ughh.. hate it its teribly slow.) now I get a congratulations message your cpanel and whm are working...

The IP I pasted was 208.87.***.***, but if i use this one for the main domain it works just fine.

Interesting. Are you using godaddy's Off-site DNS? I would like to give it a try. Is it free for domains registered with godaddy?

For the add-on domain you need to work with the DNS zone for that domain, not the DNS zone for the main domain in your CPANEL. Each domain has a different DNS zone. Assuming you are working on the DNS zone for the add-on domain, point the records to the same IP as the main domain. The server will know how to respond.

Again, if you post your records here, it will be much easier to help you. You can edit the IP if you are concerned with making it public (not sure why)

  3. looks nice and professional..

Also is there any diff between CV and resume?

As I understand it a resume is more summarized and concise, generally one page long. Nowadays, however, the terms are used interchangeably. I think resume is a more common term in the USA than it is in the UK, but it means generally the same.

    Have a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Résumé

    From this webpage:

In many contexts, a résumé is short (usually one page), and therefore contains only experience directly relevant to a particular position. Many résumés contain precise keywords that potential employers are looking for, make heavy use of active verbs, and display content in a flattering manner.

  5. Hi delivi,

    I like your resume.

I agree with other members that the design could be improved, but the first impression was pleasant. When I look at a resume I do not like it when the design is too elaborate, because that can be distracting. Your resume is clean and very readable.

There are two things that I want to comment. These were my thoughts as I read your resume:

    1. As I was reading your resume I thought..."no degree". Then at the end, I found

    Education

    B.E. - Computer Science and Engineering | 2002 - 2006

Sardar Raja College of Engineering (Affiliated to Anna University, Chennai)

And I thought, Hah! Degree. Why is it down here at the bottom? weird.

    2. I reached the end of the resume and thought, where is the experience? looked back up and saw the skills again. I thought delivi must have just graduated, thats why there is no experience section. Then the education MUST be at the very beginning, it is a golden rule.

Then I noticed that you graduated in 2006. Strange. Graduated in 2006, we are in 2009. No experience section. Delivi has not had a job with a company. That is alright, but why not list some projects, whatever they are with the corresponding accomplishments.

    I would use this structure

    PERSONAL DETAILS

    OBJECTIVE

EDUCATION (you are still a relatively recent graduate)

EXPERIENCE/PROJECTS (it does not matter whether in a job or doing something just for fun, as long as you have done something interesting)

    SKILLS

You can also include a summary of top skills near the top, but do not list everything there, only your top 5 skills.

Finally, I would change the photo. You want to look a bit more relaxed. Maybe a bit of a smile, looking smart.

In this photo, I have to say, you look somewhat tense and uncomfortable.

People hire people, not skills. It is very important that your personal image transmits confidence and a relaxed attitude.

    UPDATE

    delivi

Here is CV that I just saw, which does not follow the structure I propose, but does cover all the points that I commented (experience, projects, not just skills, and also the photo looks more relaxed and confident). Maybe you can use some of the ideas.

  6. Come ON! It won't grow bigger out of your skull by just one night man. Meditation is good and if you meditate keep it up. Even if it grows a little bit it won't matter a lot. There are millions of people around the globe who meditate on a daily basis.

Meditation has been with people for more than 2500 years now!! or even longer. I don't think the slight increase in head size would matter at all.

OK, I will keep meditating. But if my head explodes it will be your fault.

I will write a note that says "buherath told me to do it" and put it next to my zafu cushion when I meditate. They will know who to call

I am not very sure how far this information is true. But one thing is for sure... Our brains are growing and thereby increasing the size of our heads and this happens as part of our human evolution.

There are few things to note here and to understand how this works.

    1. Look at the stone age people

There is a clear understanding on this if you look at the fossil pictures of stone age dwellers and people at that time. There is a significance in the size of the boy and the head. Basically, the size of the body was large and that of the head was very small, which can be explained by the more physical work they do. Say for example, they had very less brain activity and was involved in much of physical activities like hunting, fighting etc. which was their way of life. Their body was built for what they wanted. But it gradually changed.

    1. Look at the what we are now

Presently we are in the age of nominal brain and body activity, so we have some kind of proportion of both head and body. This was the result of evolution that happened for thousands of years from the old ages, where men started becoming more moral and using the brain and the amount of physical activity has reduced. So this is the reason why we have a balanced percentage of body and head sizes. But as days pass by our body activity is reducing drastically and we get things done from a single position... Say for example previously people used to go to water sources to get water, now we have water supplied to our houses.... there are so many things like that.

    What will be the future

I do not know.I am guessing here. Have you seen ET and other movies where they show some human like creatures in the future? Have you seen the proportion of their body and heads? Yes. Usually the size of the head is very large, which can be attributed to the increased activity of the brain and smaller body due to reduced body activity. And experts also suggest that we are in the path to become like that... meaning not us, but the human evolution is that and future HomoSapiens will be like that, provide they are there. :XD:

Are we to consider these at the same time?

    1. Look at the stone age people

    1. Look at the what we are now

It is tough to think both at once.

My head is about to explode and I have not even started meditating.

Seriously now, I think stress actually shrinks the brain. It impairs learning and memory and other brain processes. Meditation does the opposite: It helps think better, remember better and feel better. I am not surprised that it makes the brain grow. Whether meditation will actually lead to bigger heads in future generations depends on two things:

    1. Whether people meditate more or not. If they do not then meditation will have no effect on the size of the head. I do observe a growing tendency in people to meditate and engage in related practices.

    2. Whether having a bigger head will provide a significant (early) survival advantage or helps procreate more. It is important that the survival advantage happens at an early stage in life, because if you just add 10 years to your life when you are 80, generally you do not have children between 80 and 90 and then your "bigger head" genes will not be transmitted more to more children than the "normal head" genes.

It is possible in theory that having a bigger head provides an early survival advantage, but I cannot imagine how at this point. Besides survival rates in developed countries are already quite high.

The second possibility is that it helps procreate more, for example correlating with a much increased sex drive, and a disregard for contraception. It would also make a big difference if the members of the opposite sex find a bigger head very attractive.

I just do not see it.

    ----------------

Yes, our heads are bigger than those of home erectus, pitecantropus, etc, but that is because our bigger heads were critical for our survival. Our bigger heads contained brains with new areas of the brain, such as the prefrontal cortex, that allowed us to plan, handle tools more efficiently, cooperate better and many other things that saved many *person* sapiens at an early age from starvation and from the attacks of savage beasts. They also stayed healthier and stronger, and had more sex (I am guessing here :) ). Thus, their "bigger head" genes were able to spread more rapidly.

  7. Hello all!
Would like to know how to properly add an IP of the host for DNS records? possibly without changing nameservers.
Ive added the posted shared IP posted in the control panel to my @ & www records and I get "Apache is working on your cPanelŽ and WHM Server"
Want to add an IP instead of nameservers.. Anyone care to help a newb out please.

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi frozen fish,
I think I can help you, because I have been managing DNS for a while.
Can you cut and paste your zone records here so that I can understand what you have done?
Also please explain where (in which DNS records) and why you want an IP instead of nameservers.

  8. Folks

I found this company that says they do Flash game development of the kind I need:

    Gateway TechnoLabs Pvt. Ltd

    Flash Game Development Company Overview

    http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way related to this company or interested in promoting it

I am looking for companies or individuals that offer a similar service.

I will try to find 4-6 to compare and choose the best option.

Do you know the company above? (Gateway TechnoLabs Pvt. Ltd)

Do you know any company that offers similar services?

Can you do the same job?

Come on people, there must be someone around here that knows something about this. This place is full of people interested in game development and gamers.

  9. I alreay know that for a long time, i make traceroutes myself whenever i try a free hosting and paid hosting service, but a whois query would do the job too, not with all the info a complete traceroute command would give but, it is enough.
While they may not provide the full and correct information in your point of view, does not matter really, the hosting is good nonetheless.

    Hi freeflashclocks,
I do not understand your comment.

The physical location of the host is important. You could have the best hardware, in the best data center with the best connection to an internet backbone, but it the data center is in, let us say, Argentina, and your audience is located in India, for example, then your audience will experience slow and irregular access times to your website. That is because the number of hops is high and internet traffic becomes more relevant as physical distance grows.

My intended audience is in Spain. If the servers are in India, this is not optimal. I may be OK, but certainly not the best solution. I think in that case I would have problems.

The WHOIS search provides no information on geographical location of the server.

Finally, my suggestion is not directed to Xisto as a complaint. I really think it is beneficial to their growth that the geographical location associated to GAMMA server's IP on http://www.ip2location.com/ is corrected. I have done quite a bit of testing and I do not believe the servers are in India (if they are, then the connection from India to Walnut, California, USA is very very good)

Potential customers in the US and Europe may check the location with http://www.ip2location.com/ and disregard Xisto and Xisto - Web Hosting as a candidate supplier for their hosting needs.

Keep in mind Xisto - Web Hosting is not only free hosting, they also have pay customers.

  10. Hi, I was testing access times for gamma.xisto.com and useing traceroute, etc.

I came across this IP to geolocation tool that is reporting GAMMA.xisto.com server (and several other xisto servers) to be located in India:

    http://www.ip2location.com/demo/208.87.243.146

    IP Address Country Region City Latitude/ Longitude ZIP Code Time Zone 208.87.243.146 INDIA - - 28.6 77.2 - +05:30

    Net Speed ISP Domain
    COMP XISTO NETWORKS -

IDD Code Area Code Weather Station
    91 - INXX0142 - NEW DELHI/SAFDARJUNG

I think this may be incorrect and misleading to people who want their websites to be hosted in the US.
I think the server is located in the LA area in California (correct me if I am wrong).

I am not sure what you need to do to update this information, but I suggest you try to have this updated.

  11. I have done that myself.

STEP 1. Install Joomla on the remote server

As explained above, the name of the database may be different from the one in your local installation, but Joomla will work fine because you are installing it now with the correct database name, user and password on the remote server.

It is better to install Joomla than to copy the files from your local installation because the Joomla installation will warn you if there is anything incorrect with the installation on that server and it will create a configuration.php file that is correct for that server.

STEP 2. Install the template on the remote server

I prefer to use the admin site to install the template rather than copying files via FTP. It is simpler and faster, and you also get a message if the template is not correctly installed for any reason.

STEP 3. Copy the Database contents from local to remote

EXPORT your local database to a .sql file using phpMyAdmin.

IMPORT the .sql file to your remote database using phpMyAdmin.

Let me know if you need help with any of the steps.

  12. Hello

I need to find developers for online educational games.

The type of games to be develop are similar to those at
    - http://www.sesamestreet.org/games

I believe most of these games are created with Flash.
However, development in Flash is not a requirement.

Do you know where to find good developers for these kinds of games?
Can you develop online games like those above?

    Thanks!

  14. yes outsourcing your projects here can cut the cost a lot and I can help you with it! I have a number of buddies here who can do the job.but like rvalkass says you have to be extra extra careful with those..
Anyway I can do CSS and joomla.. im not a big fan of joomla so i never looked into it that much..

    Thank you frozen fish,
I will need somebody who knows Joomla well.
PHP is important too, as all Joomla extensions are based on PHP (and CSS), as is Joomla itself.

By the way, I am interested in knowing why you are not a fan of Joomla. Is it just boring to you or do you think there is some problem with it?

  15. I have heard tales of mixed results when outsourcing web design abroad. Plenty of people have been happy with the results, whereas others have had problems or been very unsatisfied with what they got for their money. Like anything on the Internet, check it out first and be sure you're happy with what they're offering and that they will deliver. Get examples of past work, independent reviews of the company and look over them in detail before parting with any cash.
Alternatively check out the link in my sig for my website. I have dabbled with Joomla in the past, but not recently, however.

Thanks for the advice rvalkass. I am sure that is the case. That is why I am asking for advice here.
Independent reviews of the company are most important, but I am not sure of how to obtain those.

I have checked your website. Impressive photoshop work!!!
You live in the UK and you have to pay UK utility bills, like me , I suspect you will not be the cheapest one around...(correct me if I am wrong)

  16. I just came across this article that says that meditators grow bigger brains.

Meditation Found To Increase Brain Size. People who meditate grow bigger brains than those who don't. Researchers at Harvard, Yale, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have found the first evidence that meditation can alter the physical structure of our brains. Brain scans they conducted reveal that experienced meditators boasted increased thickness in parts of the brain that deal with attention and processing sensory input.

I meditate and I am worried that my skull will explode.

  17. I think God is everywhere and is everything. We are God. The plants are God. The rocks are God. Interstellar space is God. Time is God.God is the energy that constitutes the smallest particles and the energy that moves them and keeps them together making larger structures. And, above all, God is consciousness. We are conscious because we are God.You eye processes light. Your visual cortex processes visual information.Your pattern matching system identifies objects. But you are aware of the object and you are conscious because God is consciousness, and God is you.And God is also that nagging mosquito.

  18. You are correct that the fact the synchronisation occurs on Earth is an issue. What you have stumbled across in a round about way is known as the "Twins Paradox". You have also managed to reach the solution to it  The paradox is normally explained with spaceshuttles as the effect is more obvious, but planes work just as well.
Consider two twins: Laura and Emily. Emily stays on Earth while her twin, Laura, is put in the space shuttle and fired off into the distant reaches of space. Because of the speed of the shuttle, Emily observes time as proceeding more slowly in the space shuttle than on Earth. So, when Laura returns she will be younger than Emily.

However, to Laura the space shuttle is an inertial reference frame. As the Earth moves relative to her, she thinks Emily is ageing slower than her. When she returns, Laura thinks Emily is younger. So, who's right?

Laura's space shuttle has had to accelerate relative to the Earth to take off. Then again as it turns round to return. However, Emily has remained fairly inertial throughout the entire process. Laura's frame of reference (the space ship) therefore cannot be considered inertial, and her calculations are incorrect. Emily's are right, and Laura is the younger of the twins when she gets back.

The same can be said of planes. As they need to accelerate away from the Earth, and then back towards it, they can't be considered inertial.

    I understand it now!
    Thanks

    This is great.

  19. Hi, My business model requires outsourcing of some IT and design tasks. At this point I have identified the following skills as necessary:- CSS based website design- Joomla administration- PHP for tweaking/improving on JoomlaOther possible skills:- Online game design and implementation (For children, carton-like educational games).I will post more as I identify them.Do you know where I could find people with these skills?(or are you good at any of these?)

  20. Hi, I have seen topics on Xisto about Paypal and Google checkout.

Surely you know that many people still use other payment systems. In fact I purchase a lot online and I never use paypal and google checkout to pay.

We need to understand the other options out there to receive payments for our products and services.

    QUESTION 1.

Apart from Paypal and Google Checkout (already discussed elsewhere in these forums), what other solutions do we have to get paid?

    QUESTION 2.

I want to offer my customers the possibility of paying me directly with their credit card?

What steps do I need to follow to set a system up that will allow me to do it?

  21. Hi

I know from the forums that many of you are interested in online marketing.

I also know from the forums that many of you take a scientific approach to problems and questions.

This topic is addressed to those who are interested in online marketing and like take a scientific approach to problem solving.

I believe much can be gained by setting up all marketing efforts in a way that helps us gain insights quickly about what is working and what isn't.

    What is the basic principle?

    - Create several versions of the marketing effort

    - Launch them

    - Measure the results of each version.

    - Choose the best one, refine and repeat.

    QUESTIONS TO GET STARTED

    - Have you ever done marketing experiments of this kind?

    - If so, how did it go?

    - If not, would you be interested in learning?

  22. OK, it seems nobody has read this book.
    I am surprised.
