  1. Yep. Did read somewhere that the brain will lose its density when one ages. But yet to come across an article that says mediation increase the size of brain.

    Here it is:

Meditation experience is associated with increased cortical thickness

    Sara W. Lazar et al

    http://scholar.harvard.edu/sara_lazar

Also related to this same research, news release from the Society for Neuroscience:

TAKE A DEEP BREATH; MEDITATION MAY BOOST BRAIN SIZE AND INCREASE MENTAL PERFORMANCE, ACCORDING TO NEW RESEARCH

    http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

The Society for Neuroscience is a the world's largest organization dedicated to the scientific study of the brain.

  2. Yeesh! I never read anything like this. People have been meditating for thousands of years and there's not a mention of such a thing happening till now. Well even if this is true then it definitely can't be anything dangerous.
And even if the brain does grow bigger we will still be using the same amount of memory, still do the same things....meditation is not to help you become a genius, is it? It just calms the mind and helps you concentrate. Maybe if that concentration is used properly can the person become a genius :(

I think it does not turn you into a genius. It does open the doors for whatever genius there is in you already.

And no, I do not think it is dangerous!
I just think it is funny that the brain actually grows bigger.

I have a headache now. I wonder if it is related.

  3. I think this is right, because I heard that Einstein brains were 16 percent bigger to normal people. And Einstein was a big thinker. So if you want to have a big head, just keep thinking. :XD:

I have an uncle who has a huge brain, but he does not think much.
What's very interesting about Einstein brain is that they found that the increase was in the white matter, not so much in the grey matter. The grey matter is where the neuron bodies are. The white matter is mostly made of axons, which are the "cables" that connect the neurons. So, it seems that the neurons in Einstein's brain were very highly interconnected, so he could see the connections between seemingly unrelated ideas in a flash.

I think Einstein did not think more than other people. He thought better.

  4. Its great for gaining control of your mind. For example in the past, when i went to bed after a busy day id find myself awake for an additional 2 or 3 hours more than usual. But by meditating i can focus and calm myself into sleep within 30 minutes.

Exactly, I find the same. I use meditation every evening now and I sort of clean up my mind and then sleep comes very easily.
I find it more difficult to meditate in the morning. My mind wants to jump into the action and I often give up.

  5. I don't believe that mediation will make the brain grow bigger. What I believe is that mediation will tap the "unknown" part of the brains and activate it. Remember, for all the known functions of the brain, it is uses only a few percentage of the brain.

Hey, but look, these guys at Harvard, Yale and MIT did some research and found that it does grow...

    http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2002/04/meditation-dramatically-changes-body-temperatures/

Did you know that schizoprenics' brain shrink?

OK, I really do not care if the brain shrinks or grows.

I do meditate to re-connect to the big-picture part of my mind and, as you say, to tap the "unknown" part of the brain. By unknown I understand the part of my mind that I am not generally conscious of.

About humans using only a small percentage of their brains, sorry, that is not correct. I studied neuroscience at the University of California and that is not true. I think the confusion must come from the fact that at any given time only a part of the brain is active. Each cubic centimeter of the brain is used for something. It is just not used all at the same time. It is the same as a toolbox. Just because we do not use all the tools at the same time it does not mean that the toolbox is only 10% used. Do you see what I mean?

The brain is very costly to maintain. It consumes a disproportionate proportion of the body's resources. Natural selection would not permitted such a waste as using only a small percentage of the brain.

  6. I think if Ash-Bash is interested in giving hosting business a try a reseller account is a good way to start.

He would learn a lot of the things he needs to learn with a modest investment.
He could then graduate and move to a dedicated server, but that requires solid knowledge of server administration.

In any case, I would recommend anybody interested in going into the hosting business to learn as much as possible about linux and control panels before going "live", or you will have a bunch of unhappy customers.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just wanted to add to my previous posts about freeware reseller control panels that the Xisto/Xisto - Web Hosting VPS offer comes with the option of VHCS preinstalled free of charge.

That's not bad to host unlimited* domains:
    http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
    http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

    * careful with unlimited :lol:

  7. Sorry, this I wrote earlier was misleading:

But, you do need to know Linux, and you have to use Webmin Cpanel, not the CPANEL Cpanel, or you will have to pay more.

Webmin is not a good choice for webhosting.
    These can work for webhosting:
    - ispCP
    - SysCP
    - ISPConfig

Well ok I can see your points on how a reseller account would be useful or this however just buying normal accounts for people would be easy for me + I can make more profit I think. I think first I will start with normal accounts then if my hosting company becomes more popular I would get a resellers account. Thank-You for your support and tips for getting me started .

But a normal shared hosting account does not give you the tools you need to manage your customers. How are you going to give your customers a CPanel to control their accounts for example?
    Notice from jlhaslip:
    Merged posts

  8. Another option is to go for VPS.
    http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Right now there is an offer with
    VPSmini @ $20 with 128MB burstable to 512MB RAM

11 GB SPACE (including Operating System, CPanel etc. files)
    300 GB BANDWIDTH

    192 MB Guaranteed RAM
    256 MB Burstable RAM
    1 IP Addresses allocation

But, you do need to know Linux, and you have to use Webmin Cpanel, not the CPANEL Cpanel, or you will have to pay more.

The question I have about this is SSL.
You need an SSL certificate to capture your customer's details in a secure web connection.

With a reseller account, this SSL certificate may be provided by Xisto, am I right?
    How does this work?

  9. it works allright! what freenrg said! you can change it back later on.... but some of my domains are already well configured(MX,txt,etc..) ill just let them add it for now, again appreciate the hand.

there is a restriction you cannot add domains if you dont use their nameservers. now why non of the mods or the support told me this one?

    Great!

We know how to do it now.

I thought it would be very difficult or impossible for the server to stop you from managing DNS externally after you have added the domain. It is a one time check. Pass it, and you are in.

  10. So it's at their end that has the restriction? Cause I was playing around with my "co.cc" too and was able to add it as a parked domain when I changed the nameservers to Xisto..

But was unsuccessfull with adding it, when the A and WWW records was used to point it here..

Any mods or old timers here confirm this please?

Yes, exactly. That is what I meant...

If you enter the xisto nameservers in your account on http://www.co.cc/ then the Xisto - Web Hosting cpanel will allow you to add the domain.

If you do not enter xisto nameservers in your account on http://www.co.cc/, and instead you use co.cc nameservers and manage the DNS on http://www.co.cc/ then the Xisto - Web Hosting cpanel will not allow you to add the domain.

    ----

    Now.

You have already added the domain.

Have you tried using co.cc nameservers and managing DNS on http://www.co.cc/ AFTER adding the domain on Xisto - Web Hosting cpanel?

I suspect you will be able to do it.

  11. Hi
I am getting the same errors for a .com domain and a co.cc domain.
I have pointed the nameservers to GAMMA but I cannot create the addon domains.

    cooldomain1.com
Error from park wrapper: Using nameservers with the following IPs: 208.109.255.9,216.69.185.9 Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver.

    Those are godaddy nameservers

    208.109.255.9, ns18.domaincontrol.com. [Glue: 208.109.255.9] [TTL: 172800]216.69.185.9	ns17.domaincontrol.com. [Glue: 216.69.185.9] [TTL: 172800]

    cooldomain2.co.cc
Error from park wrapper: Using nameservers with the following IPs: 222.122.6.21,222.122.6.20,118.219.232.169 Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver.

    Those are co.cc nameservers
    222.122.6.21, ns2.co.cc222.122.6.20, ns1.co.cc118.219.232.169	ns3.co.cc. [IP: 118.219.232.169] [TTL: 86400]

This error message is not easy to understand.

I think it means that the host server (GAMMA in this case) should
    - host the DNS zone ("Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers") or
    - have information about which nameservers are serving the DNS zone ("have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns").

I do not understand why Xisto - Web Hosting introduces this restriction.

The error has nothing to do with the co.cc domain being a subdomain.

  12. Hello,
Im using godaddys DNS management so just editing zone records @ and WWW.. it's a .info domain from them..

I cannot seem to add addons and parked domains, upon double checking the @ and www records were correct.

Ive also contacted and talked to support, he was really helpful and manually added those domains yet he told me that i have to add xisto's nameservers which i dont want to do... i still want to use the domain registrar's nameservers only change @ and WWW records..

Hmm.. i think it's the cpanel that is having the problem, anyway i am testing it with co.cc domain, ive just changed it to nameserver instead of zonerecords lets see if it lets me add it.

Any help with this is well appreciated.. i do not want to use xisto nameservers but instead godaddy nameserver and point the @ and WWW records here..

The IP im refering to is.. 208.87.***.***

    Hi frozen.fish
You cannot add addon domains or parked domains to a DNS zone.
Each domain has its own DNS zone.

Let me help you...Please post your zone records here. Something like this:

I have removed the final part of the IP addresses because you are doing it, although I am now aware of any security risk if I post the whole IP.
I have also changed the domain, just in case.

What is the danger of posting the actual IP and domain?

    ---------------------------------------------------

I have not tried godaddy.com's DNS service.

Have you considered using other DNS services?
I have used these free DNS services:

    - https://www.zoneedit.com/

A couple more services that I have found, but not tried:
    - http://freedns.afraid.org/

Also, if you send me your domain names by PM I can analyze them and tell you what you can do.

  14. Hello members of Xisto,

I have now been a member for a while with a hosting account on Xisto along with a domain also.

Many of you members and staff say the have "Fast" And "Good understanding support members" Well if it is so fast why have I have I had too wait 3-4 days for them to reply with a simple answer and this has not only happened once.

All if they are "Good Understanding" Support staff why do I have to explain the same thing 3 times...

Please reply with what you think about them only if you have made tickets before to them.

    Thanks,

I feel this needs improving and they need more staff from different time zones for it to be fast.

    - Ash.

PS for the staff reading this the following members below have a type of staff text as there member title when they are in the members group.

    Here they are.

    darkmeca

    NilsC

I am sure there are many more but there are two

    Hi Ash-Bash,

I have created several tickets (5, I think) since I signed up around May 6th and their responses so far have been very fast and effective. They also understand what I ask immediately, which is not always the case with other hosts that I have used or tested.

That is my experience so far. I will let you know if things change, but right now I am impressed.

  15. My job is not fantastic. It is OK. I work for a company that manufacturers consumer electronics and I am in charge of sales in UK and other countries in Europe.
What I really want to do now is to create my own business. I already had my own trading business in the past, but this time it will be an online business and my intention is to work less hours and be able to spend more time on other important things, while doing a business that I like.

    Why not Google?
Google is for you. You have the burning desire to work at Google. Go for it. I like google, but working at google is not something I have even considered. Now that you asked me, I imagine there must be thousands of people trying to get into Google and many of them right out of college or graduate school. If you have the chance, try to go to college/university, get the best grades, graduate at the top your class, while in college get involved in some projects that are related to google. If you graduate at the top of your class, apply for admission into a computer science PhD program in the US. If you get accepted into a PhD program in the USA, the university will pay your tuition and a teaching assistant stipend you can live on comfortably.

Ideally, you could apply to PhD programs in cities where Google has development centers, maybe googleplex in Santa Clara http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Googleplex. For example, Stanford University is very close. If you are a grad student in the Stanford Computer Science PhD program I bet you it is not difficult to do some project at Googleplex and later get a real job there.

I did get admitted into a PhD program in the USA, so if you need guidance let me know.

If you do not get into Stanford right away you can get into another PhD program and apply again to Stanford once you are in the US. I was first admitted into U of Maryland and later on to Berkeley. By the way, Berkeley is also in the bay area, so not too far from googleplex.

    UPDATE Google started at Stanford

  17. In my opinion, Vista Panel (VP) is totally crap. (Excuse my month). ByetHost is the most (one of the most) limited webhosting company services I have known. Here is a little list of hosting company's I have been with and left:

    UnlimitedMB (ULMB)

    x10Hosting

    110MB

    ByetHost

    000Webhost

All of these listed hosting company's I had been with and left because of their rubbish services.

    1. ULMB: I left ULMB because of their Control Panel. I only used the FREE package because they are a rip off. I got banned because of a stupid Global Moderator..AKA Victor.

    2. x10Hosting: I left x10 because of their support and Control Panel features. It sucked.

    3. 110MB: I left 110 because of their 110 MB upload limit, plus their services/support.

    4. ByetHost, same as 110. They suck with their support services and upload limits.

    5. 000WebHost: I left 000WH because of their lack of features. Their Control Panel sucks. SQL restarts every hour on the clock...

I have had alot of rubbish services of hosting. It was then on I searched and searched for good hosting and eventually find Xisto back in 30-August 08. From then on to now, I've loved their services.

  18. Well That is just what I think about time. Well, there are 7 quantities in the world where you cannot give a definite definition without relating other quantities.

Time is one of them. I cannot really remember the others or does not even know whether there are actually 7 of them. I remember one of my tuition masters saying something like that once.

Well, if someone asks "what is time?" it is quite hard to give a definite answer. Some believe that Time is the 4th dimension. But I don't see how it can be a dimension.

Have you heard about "dark matter"? It is said that dark matter exists in out of space. Some believe that time has something to do with dark matter. But I think none has seen dark matter so far.

Time is just a hypothetical quantity. It was created by man to understand and measure the rate of the changing of the environment around him.

But we can give the above definition to time based on its usage to us.

This is just what a 17 year old kid sitting in front of a computer in Sri Lanka thinks about time. :XD: :):P

You are right that it is hard to give a definite answer. This is one topic where anything you say can be doubted or disputed.

This is how I imagine time as the 4th dimension: Think of your room as it was 10 minutes ago. Picture it in your mind in 3D. Then picture it as it was 9min 59 seconds ago. Keep both images in mind, only the second is slightly displaced 1 centimeter from the first towards the right. Repeat this with 9min 58 s, 9min 57 sec, and so on... imagine all these 3D images of your room coexisting with smalls displacements in space.

This way of imagining time as a fourth dimension is actually a bit misleading because the images are displaced in space, which is incorrect, but it does help me thing about what this means.

A more accurate way to picture time as a dimension is the following:

First, imagine the world is 2D. How? OK, imagine your computer screen. Your computer screen is a 2D slice in space. That should be easy because it is in front of you right now :D. Take the image that was on your screen at 12:00 and keep it on your mind in 3D. It should look like a very thin film with the image on it, and you should be able to rotate it in your mind. When you look at it from the side you cannot see the image of course. Then take what was on the screen at 12:01 and put it on a film in your mind and attach it right on top of the first film. Repeat this process until you have a nice cube of SCREEN-TIME from 12:00 to 13:00 for example. Imagine the block is semi transparent. If for example a circle on your screen does not move for the whole hour you should be able to see it as a cylinder in your cube of SCREEN-TIME.

If you find it difficult to imagine it is a bit like this: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Only what I am talking about is a solid block with images that often change very slightly from one instant to the next.

More on dark matter in a different post ! :D

  19. Ya friend that is nearest Google office but I can't go there cause my parents don't allow me to go there. They think I am still young so I have no any chances to go there. So, I think I have to wait some years to go there.
And try to get Job there. And my that interest will be success one day.

    Thanks for post.
    Arjun pun

    Hi Arjun pun

Be patient. Your parents may be right. Like you, since young I was eager to see the world and have experiences. I finally got my chance when I was 22. I left my hometown, Alicante, Spain, and I have lived in many places since then: Madrid, Barcelona, the Canary Islands, Baltimore, Washington DC, California, Seoul Korea, Telford UK.

If you have that desire and you do not give up, you will succeed and see the world. But always remember you will not find happiness and peace in another place. It has to come from within you, wherever you go and whatever you do my friend.

  20. I am very much interested to get job in Google.

But I can't find any Google office in Nepal. So, I can't get job in Google.

Can any body give me some suggestion about this?

    Arjun pun

    Hi Arjupun,

I think Google may not have any office in Nepal.

Have a look at their office information here:

  21. I am not much of a book reader, I'd rather have pictures(as in a movie...not a picture book ) than have to picture it in my head, now sure I can do allot by doing that, but I don't really like it.....

    Movies? I watch movies too.

Flirting? Nope, sorry, i'm 13 almost 14, and till I'm 17 18 19 around there, I don't wanna get into serious ****, and I also don't wanna waste my time with sex-only relasionships(sp?), I'd rather have sex when it actualy means something.....

I play vid games, so what? got a prob with it? sthu you *BLEEP*in bout it just annoys me, doesn't stop me. I'll be a vidgamer wether you like it or not.

You can say "vid games take no REAL skill! go play a sport or something!" actualy, GOOD games do, they take smarts too, you gotta know what to do and what not to, gotta figure out where to go and where not to go, and that....is....not always easy.

I play soccer and basketball too so kiss my..............hand.

EDIT: oh and, I would like the time I spent reading your post and replying back please, gift wrapped too.

    Games are ******* good.

I spent many ******* hours of my life playing videogames. Many more hours than you have so far, I assure you.

I stay away from them now because of one single reason: They are addictive to me and I loose control of my time.

If you are not addicted to your videogames, then by all means, play some, have fun.

If you are addicted, think and control the addiction, or quit that ****.

How to know if you are addicted? If you often find yourself looking forward to playing the game or thinking about playing the game when you are away from it. If you keep saying to yourself, this is the last one for today, and you do that 10-20 times... you are probably addicted.

Why addiction is not good? because it controls you. You do not control it. And when you loose control to the addiction, it sucks too much of your time and you start loosing the chance to expose your brain to many other **** that is cool, way cooler than playing video games. By the way, if you cannot think of **** that is cooler than playing videogames, that is a strong sign that you are addicted.

Oh, and I would like the time I have spent reading your post, gift wrapped, please...and the time writing this one, why not?
