  1. Heyas, I'd personally prefer Dreamweaver. I actually just posted a long critique of Dreamweaver in another thread that you can read here: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/20701-frontpage-and-dreamweaver/page-2#entry149350 I personally find that Dreamweaver is a very good newbies' programme, it's just not so good once you become proficient with CSS code, as DW tries to second-guess your movements (useful for novices but not for people who are past that). Hope this help!
  2. Aha Dreamweaver! *rolls up sleeves* Okie I've only ever used Frontpage once a long time ago when I was 14 and went on some school trip so I can't really say, but I've been using Dreamweaver for the last 3 years (learnt to use from scratch in Web Design class)... PROS of Dreamweaver... Dreamweaver is an excellent program to start with if you're a newbie to web design. there's a full tool bar of different options you can do, ranging from image maps, anchor-linking, forms, text areas, layers, tables, menu buttoons. There's even a text properties bar where u can customise your font size, colour and links, without the code! So it's pretty good if you're new to CSS code (i.e. you only know ur basic HTML), but have big dreams. CONS of Dreamweaver... However, once you leave newbie stage, Dreamweaver can become increasingly annoying. Although layers seemingly allow you to position something anywhere on a page as opposed to using tables, they look different on different people's browsers and often mess up the whole page. When you're in the Dreamweaver work space, it also has a really annoying function of stretching your layers to impossible lengths. When I was younger, being the perfectionist I am, I used to work for hours positioning stuff in the Dreamweaver work space, twiddling with the layer and table boxes, which really drove me nuts most of the time. 2 years on, I'm just about to launch a personal graphics site with premade layouts for neopets users etc (at least i will when my domain name gets changed ) and somehow in the past year or so, through working with so much CSS code on neopets to position and align user lookup and guild layouts, I've somehow become proficient. So when I tried to make my website in Dreamweaver this time round, I soon realised that it was much simpler to just ignore the Dreamweaver work space and just code everything in the back code area. BIG FAULT in Dreamweaver... Dreamweaver does not understand the concept of having a complete page's code within a text area box. It has a very annoying habit of detecting unclosed tags. Sometimes its right, but most of the time it's just that it doesn't like <div> tags and <table> tags within text areas within a <div> style. The thing is, if i hadn't used Dreamweaver but just coded it myself and uploaded it, it would work! In fact, Dreamweaver even started deleting parts of the code in my text areas to "correct" it (arghhhh!)... took me 4 tries to realise it was messing with my code So now I've learnt - if you want to do very ambitious code, ditch Dreamweaver and just code it in notepad if you understand all the <div> styles... it's great program... just not for people who aren't CSS novices anymore...
  3. I know MSN 7.0 seems really wonderful and all, but I really don't think so... I've been using MSN messenger for 3 years now and I'd have to say that this is the WORST version of MSN messenger I've ever had to use. Ever since upgrading to MSN Messenger 7.0, I've been plagued with tons of problems. 1) I have a big group of friends from my online community and we get into one big chatroom every night. Whenever someone enters or leaves the chatroom, the whole MSN program jams for about 30 seconds. I can't type, i can't press "send", I can't type in other windows, I can't pull up the main window - nothing! (this has happened to my friends too) 2) those winks are really annoying - you can't choose to click them to see the effect. When I'm in the chatroom with my friends, 1 person plays a wink, then 5 other people immediately follow. Then when I get back to the chat window, 6 winks play at once, covering the window so i can't type or read or anything! 3) Chatrooms isn't the only way that MSN 7.0 can jam. Status pop-up windows also jam MSN on a daily basis. In fact it's so bad that I always know when anyone in the chatroom or on my contact list leaves or enters msn, because when msn jams, it makes the rest of my computer slow to a crawl too! I know those winks and big display pics and handwrite seem cool and all, but did you know that they have existed for over a year on MSN Plus? The whole reason MSN decided to update was because they realised MSN Plus had all these cool features and they wanted to have them on the main MSN instead. You could say that maybe it's just my com, but: a) this has happened to other friends of mine in diff countries on diff computer systems MSN 5.5, MSN 6, MSN Beta, MSN Beta 7 all worked just fine on my computer. In fact, I attempted to uninstall MSN 7.0 and to reinstall MSN Beta, but MSN forced me to install MSN 7.0 otherwise it wouldn't let me go online. So yeah, MSN, you ain't that hot anymore...

  5. Books that changed my life...I've read many books in my life (my mother calculates I must have read about 1000) and all of them have meant something to me. However, if you asked me to choose, I'd have to say Harry Potter. I first read the Harry Potter books when I was 14 years old. I had read about them in a book guide before but I had felt it was no big deal - just because it was popular, that didn't mean I'd like it. I finally borrowed it from a friend, who said it was really good. I borrowed it but I was reading other stuff at the time, so I just let the book sit on my desk for days. When I finally finished all the books I had, I picked up the book, started to read, and was hooked instantly. So many things about Harry's life paralleled my own - even the way Harry thought. The books were funny, entertaining, magical, intriguing, mysterious and had so many lessons and parallels with real life.Reading the Harry Potter books helped me get through my miserable school days in my awful secondary school days. While Harry escaped to Hogwarts, I escaped with him. I got to experience a bit of the England that I was missing (since I'm now living in Asia). And when the movie and the toys came out, I liked them, so I thought I'd collect them. It soon progressed into a full-blown obsession, and now I have a HUGE collection of all things Harry Potter, worth probably about $1500 So yay Harry Potter! 36 days till Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is released!
  6. Omigosh that's really awful! Although the US government refuses to conclusively confirm whether or not those incidents occurred, the fact that at least 4 of those incidents were confirmed to me really shows that it's true. It's truly awful, because to the Muslims, the Quran is so sacred that non-Muslims are not even allowed to handle it. I did a project back in the first year of college and we had to do a huge group paper on the 3 monotheistic religions (Christianity, Islam and Judaism) and the students in the Islam group had to go to the Islamic libraries together with Muslims if they wanted to photocopy even English translations of the Quran - that's how sacred the book is.I can't believe the actions of these guards. I mean I know there's a lot of anger after 9/11 and these people are suspected of terrorism, but they're also people and their religion should be respected. By disrespecting a person's religion, you are not only disrespecting them, but ALL the people who believe in that religion, which includes many many good people in the world. And the saddest thing is, technically, we're all on the same side, believing in the same God... will this ever end?
  7. Interesting topic :(My favourite subjects in school were English, History, Literature, Art and... actually I think that's it College was a bit better though, I did a Mass Communication diploma which I adored, and my favourite subjects were Print Journalism, Online Journalism, Feature Writing, News Writing, Radio Production 2, Web Design Applications, Acting & Directing and probably a few more I don't remember.I think the most important thing to do by the time you finish high school (or your equivelant) is to figure out your strengths and play up to them... I hated maths and science but I adored English so I managed to do a wonderful course in college :DCheerios!
  8. Brushes! I love brushes Here are a list of my favourite brush sites: 1) Angelic-Trust.net http://www.angelic-trust.net/ This is a really great site which has tons of lovely brush sets - swirly, starry, hearts, textures, egyptian... brilliant stuff 2) The Magic Box http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The girl who owns this site is a fabtastic designer - i love her work! It's a bit more grungy but really lovely design work 3) Classic Tere Art http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Classic Tere has some really nice textures brushes like writings, fancy wavy lines, different filters like lace and film etc... really inventive stuff. She's a big X-Files fan so there's a lot of lovely Moulder and Scully there too 4) V Brush http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ V Brush is a brilliant site, which comes with a full Brush Search Engine. There you can find tons of brushes for PS 5,6,7,CS, PSP etc. The site owner doesn't like people to bypass her main site though, so go to this link and click the "Brush Search" button. Hope you enjoy these brush sites, but please, if you do use them for designs on your own sites, please remember to link back to the sites - these people spent a lot of time and effort on these brushes and it's almost as bad as art theft not to credit them. Enjoy!

  11. ] Hi there, I love eBay! I live in Asia and I can't get a lot of things that I want, like vintage toys and unreleased / vintage videos, so eBay is really useful. The shipping fees can be a pain (I once bought a lovely My Little Ponies Castle Set at a great bargain, but when the shipping was added it cost me $78!! ) but besides that, it's allowed me to get a lot of stuff I'd never been able to get before. eBay's also a great place to browse stuff - I'm able to see the full range of products for stuff I'm interested in and you get to see the prices of everything so you can choose how much you're willing to pay The cons of eBay are that you have to watch the auction endings to make sure you win, which can be a pain if they end in the middle of the night in your country so u miss the last bid and can't outbid. Nasty users (meaning eBay warnings) are not good either, so it's always good to find people with tons of nice feedback (the good thing of course is that you can meet some very nice people who u can deal with more in future). Let's see... what have I bought on eBay so far... - vintage videos of an English 80s children's tv show "Rainbow" - DVDs of 80s cartoons - rare Harry Potter action figures and playsets - rare My Little Ponies - out-of-print books - rare cds I love eBay!
