  1. Hello, This is another Review, maked by me, that also you can read here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Why we keep talking about this model, if it was launched 2 years ago? Why a lot of people say that, when this model appear for the first time, it produced a revolution on Palm World? Why you should believe me if I tell you that this unit is very special? Well, all the answers of this question, and much more will be covered in this review. First, read the specifications of the Clié NR70, i will talk about they then!!! Processor: Motorola Dragonball SuperVZ 66mhz Operating System: Palm OS software version v.4.1 Memory: 16MB (DRAM), 8MB (Flash) Display: TFT color LCD with backlight 320 x 480 pixels, 16 bit color (65,536 colors) Interface: USB (cradle), Infrared Dimensions and Weight: 5 1/2 (H) x 2 7/8 (W) x 11/16 (D) inches, 7.0 oz. (including stylus) Power: AC Power Adapter, Output DC5.2V, Input AC100V - 240V Battery: Lithium-ion polymer rechargeable battery (internal) Expansion: Memory Stick® media Up To 128MB (MSH-128A) Or 256MB (MSH-128S2) The NR70 series come in 2 models, the NR70/U and the NR70/V, the last have a bult-in camera of 320x240 pixels. The reasons of why it produce a revolution on the Palm World are: 1. ClamShell Design 2. 320 by 480 Hi-Resolution screen 3. built-in keyboard and integrated digital camera 4. Multimedia capabilities (Audio / Video) What things you can make with the Clié NR70? Because it have a Motorola 66mhz processor, and O.S. 4.1, (not very powerful), sony decided to put inte the NR70 a DSP with the task of decode audio format's like MP3, ATRAC3, WAV and MIDI, so we could listening to music, and use the calculator, or read a document, without any problems, because the DSP and the Motorola Dragonball SuperVZ are independent. The sound quality is excellent, better that some OS5 pda's, this is because sony work with yamaha to make a algorithm that make suitable to run under PALM OS 4.1. A lot of games support it, like Warfare Incorporated. Another great feature is that have a 320 by 480 Hi-Res screen, with this you could see pictures in very high detail, also have a virtul graffiti area where you can see your calligraphy another advantage is that you can see movies in full screen (like wide-screen tv's), with sofware like Kinoma Producer 3(in the final page are link's to download). If you want a entertainment platform, the clie nr70 is a very good alternative, there are a lot of compatible games insede the 20000 palm applications, One that is interesting to play and to view the performance of your pda is a Lucas ARts (1989-1985 games) Emulator, named Scummvm The packege of both NR70 include a remote control, with it you could control the Audio-player whit the clié closed. To write text you can use the Stylus, the hardware keybord, or a virtual keyboard. In the Clié CD, came a application named Clie Remote, with it you can use your clié like a TV/VCR/DVD Remote control. Continue reading this review here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  2. I started watching the dot net show a while back, and I downloaded a few episodes particularly to look at the future of Windows as a platform. There was quite a bit of stuff about the likes of Avalon, and Indigo and suchlike, but there was also something very interesting about the new Microsoft shell. Known as "Monad", or MSH, this is pretty much Microsoft's version of BASH or KSH, but for Windows instead of UNIX. As someone pretty into UNIX because of its command line and the ability to do shell scripts and so forth, I was immediately interested. Might be a little bit on the late side, but its great that Microsoft is doing something like this. I was reassured by the people presenting the dot net show episode that Monad would be in Longhorn. However, like many other Microsoft promises, this one looks unlikely. Rumors that Microsoft officially had cut Monad from Longhorn began circulating last week. When asked last week if Monad was still slated to be part of Longhorn, the Windows client team declined to comment. A representative with the Windows Server team said that Microsoft had not committed to a ship vehicle for Monad. "We are changing the command line environment in Windows using a new object-oriented command line technology, code-named 'Monad,' that will exceed what has been delivered in Linux and Unix for many years," said Senior Vice President Bob Muglia in an interview. "It (Monad) will take three to five years to fully develop and deliver." That timeframe of three to five years puts Monad outside the scope of the next version of Windows, scheduled to appear in 2007. "While I wouldn't be too surprised to hear that Monad won't be in Longhorn client. It is a tool for admins after all. I would be very surprised if it wasn't standard in Longhorn Server. At the recent Microsoft Management Summit, "Microsoft seemed pretty far along with Monad and was talking freely about its capabilities." - Microsoft analyst Peter PawlakAndrescasta
  3. Hello, i want to share this review, maked by Daver (a Sony Clié user) that maked it a send to me, this review and a lot of info are available in my site: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Screen One of the best features of this Clié is the 320-by-480 pixel (HVGA - half VGA) screen. This is double the size for most Palm models and many other PocketPCs. In the case of PDA's, size does matter. The screen measures 3.8 inches, the same size as Sony's NX-series models. Unlike Sony's other models, the UX40 and UX50, the TH55 doesn't have a physically reduced screen. The backlight on the TH55 isn't as bright as other models, but it's still very clear at 50% under any condition - whether you are outdoors or indoors under florescent lighting. With the TFT (transreflective) display, the screen looks great indoors and nearly as good outdoors. Although the screen isnt as bright as some other PDA models, its colour display is noticeable crisper than many others. Unfortunately, unlike other 320-by-480 design models, the Th55 doesn't offer full landscape support like palmOne's Tungsten T3 does. Some built-in applications have the option to go landscape, but most are stuck in portrait mode. Of all the applications that need landscape, NetFront, the built-in internet web browser, is top of the list. Design Many of Sony's previous models with the HVGA screen incorporate the clamshell fold up design. While those models are packed with features like mini keyboards, rotatable camera lenses, and rotatable screen slates (NX-series models), they were quite heavy for a handheld unit. For the first time, Sony managed to pack nearly as many features into the same size handheld, at half the weight. Unlike many other handhelds, the TH55 has a certain heft, if you will, that makes it feel very comfortable in your hand. Many of you will disagree and say that the handheld you currently own has the right weight, or simply think I am crazy for saying "heft" in the first place. If you ever have the chance to hold a Sony Clié TH55, take it. You'll see what I mean by having a "heft", and comfortable feeling in your hand. Also, unlike many other Palm and Pocket PC handhelds, the TH55 doesn't have that bending or creaking feeling when you apply pressure on areas of the casing. In other words, it's more than qualified to be carried around in your pants or shirt pocket. Its physical dimensions are no larger than most other mid-sized PDAs (121mm by 73mm by 16mm), but you won't be able to find anything else in the same size class that has the same features that the TH55 has. Unfortunately, the TH55 doesn't have a built-in keyboard or rotatable camera lens like the NX-series models do. However, the TH55 has other features that make up for these minor let downs. The included hard cover lid is, in my opinion, very nice. At first, it had a slight wobbly feeling when playing with it, but I eventually got used to it and never worried about it again. The lid is made of a smokey-clear plastic that allows the screen to show through, though clearly darkened. Unfortunately, it is a fingerprint magnet, and picks up anything that your fingers touched last, like natural oils from your fingertips to the crumbs from the sandwich you just ate. However, the screen is user removable, which can be a good thing for those of you who would prefer to get rid of it. A word of warning: if you do remove the plastic lid, I suggest leaving it off permanently, as the hinges are quite fragile and would strip very easily from repeated removals and replacements. One good thing about the lid is that it can serve an extra, and probably unintentional purpose: as a mirror. The reflective properties of the lid make it a great mirror for those times when you need to meet with your regional manager, but you want to make sure that spinach salad you had for lunch doesn't make a guest appearance during your meeting. Like 99% of other PDAs, the TH55 has 4 hardware buttons all lined up at the bottom front of the unit. The first button (from the left) is for Clié Organizer (CO for short) Datebook. The second button is for creating a new Freenote, Sonys idea of a spur of the moment notepad taker. For many people, its like an electronic 3M sticky pad. The third buttons the Clié Organizer button. This one cycles through the Clié Organizer applications, Sony's own version of the standard Palm OS PIM (personal information management) applications. In order, they are CO Datebook, CO Address, CO Todo, CO Memopad, CO Freenotes CO Viewer, CO Reference, and CO Applications. The forth button is the Clié Organizer assistant: it brings up a menu that allows you to put highlighted text, from an e-mail for example, and make it a new address, datebook entry, memopad entry, etc. Unfortunately, the forth button doesnt power on your unit. But that can be changed by a handy freeware utility called TheGo!Go!. One feature that draws peoples attention to most handhelds is its wireless connectivity features. The TH55 is WiFi enabled right out of the box, no drivers needed as everything you need is already pre-installed into the ROM. It uses IEEE 802.11b WiFi, so dont expect T3 LAN speeds, but its extremely fast for routine e-mail work and net surfing while waiting in line. The other feature that is a Sony design is the built-in camera. While the competing Zire camera models also have built-in cameras of the same resolution, it doesnt match up very well to the quality that the Sony cameras have (excluding the NZ90s 1.3 MP digi-cam). The 640x480 pictures arent exactly the best pictures youll see, but theyre great for remembering those times you were hanging out with friends, or when your girlfriend/boyfriend does something extremely stupid and you want to catch them in the act. As with many other Cliés, Sony decided to use the power slider with the TH55, a feature that gets mixed reactions with PDA users. The jog dial and left right buttons are on the top back of the unit, which surprisingly works out very well for both left and right handed users. Also, the Memory Stick slot is now on the side with a slot cover, so accidental removals can now be avoided. The included stylus works just like the one with TJ-series models: telescoping and sometimes frustrating to use. Im Chinese, so I dont have large hands, but I cant imagine what it must be like trying to write with such a small stylus. On the Inside Tech Specs For the first time, a handheld really does have all 32 MB of RAM available. New to the PDA market, Sony introduced the Sony Handheld Engine. This puppy automatically clocks the internal processor according to the application that is currently running. This works out extremely well because it extends battery life. The processor ranges from 8 MHz to 126 MHz (some believe it is really 32 MHz 123 MHz). At times, the speed of applications seems a little sluggish depending on how much horsepower it requires. Applications like ClieVideos Lightspeed and Dmitrys Warpspeed will not work with this unit. The best part of this handheld is definitely the amazing battery life. The box says that it can go for 10-15 days with 30 minute use everyday. I never tried that out, but I am sure that it will last that long. Im a university student, at a campus-wide enabled wireless network. I constantly check my e-mail, and write my English essays on campus. I may not have done thorough battery life tests, but a 5-day span of 50% screen brightness, over 5-6 hours wireless access, 10-15 hours of essay writing, and well over 5 hours of PIM (Clié Organizer) usage should be more than enough to say that the TH55 kicks all competition butt when it comes to battery life. However, as stated everywhere you go, the battery life may not last that long, depending on how you use it. Multimedia usage will completely kill your battery, just like all other PDAs. Software-wise, the TH55 is just like any other PDA: it comes with its creators proprietary programs. In this case: Sonys camera and companion image viewer application, Clié Organizer suite, voice recorder, movieplayer, audioplayer, and a few others. Sony decided to include a promotional offer for Datavizs Documents to Go Professional 6 (free bundle), which is a great application for those constantly on the go and need a Microsoft Word/Excel compatible program. Docs to Go 6 also handles Word and Excel files in their native format. The silkscreen virtual graffiti input area is Graffiti 2 and Decuma Latin input interchangeable, and retractable for many applications. Just like other hi-res+ Sony Cliés, the TH55 has status icons in the status bar (hence the word status). Conclusion First off, many PDAs are test-before-you-buy electronics. There is no perfect PDA in the market for anybody. If you want a good price, then you must sacrifice many features, and vice versa. The TH55 is one of them, perfect in its own ways, but stilled flawed no matter how much you love it. The Sony Handheld Engine maxes at 126 MHz which can cause lagginess in some games and multimedia applications. Fortunately, some of the built-in applications, such as the Sony movieplayer, take advantage of the Sony Handheld Engine, thus using very little battery life. A large part of why I love my TH55 is because of its phenomenal battery life. Also, I come from Cliés with 320-by-320 pixel screens, so the 320-by-480 screen real estate really makes it that much better. While Sony could have done better with 64 MB RAM, the available 32 is more than enough if you dont have too many applications and games. Also, the Memory Stick Pro slot lets you store files and applications if you run out of room in your RAM. All in all, the TH55 is for those who are away from their charging cable for long periods of time and dont want to worry about a dead battery. For those who want a fast processor, you better look somewhere else, because 126 MHz isnt top of the line anymore. Thats the trade off that people base their decision on buying PDAs on nowadays: good battery life, or really fast a processor.
  4. Apple has launched a preview version of the QuickTime 7 software for Windows. The standard version of the program can be downloaded for free; the pro version is $29.99. QuickTime 7 is the first mainstream solution capable of decoding H.264. H.264 is an MPEG-4 codec for high-quality video over a range of bandwidths, whether 3G mobile devices, video conferencing, DVD or broadcast quality HD TV. It has been adopted by both the Blu-ray Disc Association, of which Apple is a member, and the DVD Forum for use in next-generation high-definition DVDs. QuickTime also supports two dozen of the popular video and graphics formats and a dozen audio formats. QuickTime 7 Player can play up to 24 audio channels, including 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, with new playback controls, including variable playback speed, jog shuttle, so you can adjust the speed at which you search through individual movie frames, and live resizing of the viewer window. It also features zero-configuration streaming for optimum stream quality and new AV controls to adjust audio balance and volume, bass and treble response, brightness, colour, contrast and tint. Apple recommends that you use QuickTime 7 for Windows Public Preview only for testing purposes. Additionally, it is not recommended that you try using it with other QuickTime-based applications, such as iTunes.Andrescasta

  7. PlayStation 3 announced for 2006 Sony confirms the name and release window of its next-generation console in Los Angeles, reveals its hefty tech specs and does several LOS ANGELES--Today saw the second of the big three console makers announce their next-generation platform. At its pre-E3 press conference, Sony Computer Entertainment gave the world its first look at the PlayStation 3, as it now is officially called. The name was not unexpected, since Sony had been running an extensive teaser-ad campaign prepping the public for the PlayStation 3. The company had laid a blanket of posters around the Los Angeles Convention Center, site of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (aka E3). Bus stalls and billboards around the convention center proclaimed "Prepare for Chang3" in the distinctive PlayStation font with partial shots of the Dual Shock controller's square-circle-triangle-X buttons. Sony also confirmed the PlayStation 3, will use Blu-Ray discs as its media format. The discs can hold up to six times as much data as current-generation DVDs. It will also support CR-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. It also confirmed the machine would be backward-compatible all the way to the original PlayStation. It will also have slots for Memory Stick Duo, a SD slot, and a compact flash memory slot. It will also sport a slot for a detachable 2.5 inch HDD somewhat similar the Xbox 360's. Out of the box, the PS3 will have the capability to support seven Bluetooth controllers. It will also have six USB slots for peripherals--four up front and two in the back. Sony also laid out the technical specs of the device. The PlayStation 3 will feature the much-vaunted Cell processor, which will run at 3.2 Ghz, giving the whole system 2.18 teraflops of overall performance. It will sport 256mb XDR main RAM at 3.2 Ghz, and have 256MB of GDDR VRAM at 700mhz. Sony also unveiled the PS3's graphics chip, the RSX "Reality Synthesizer based on Nvidia technology. The GPU will be capable of 128bit pixel precision, 1080p resolution, some of the highest HD resolution around. The RSX also has 512mb of graphics render memory and is capable of 100 billion shader operations and 51 billion dot products per second. It also has over 300 million transistors, larger than any processor available commercially today. It will be manufactured using the 90nm process with 8 layers of metal. The RSX is more powerful than two GeForce 6800 Ultra video cards, which would cost roughly $1000 total if bought today. To show off the PlayStation 3's graphical brawn, Sony showed several game demos, including an Unreal 3 tech demo of what appeared to be Unreal Tournament 2007. In what must come as a relief to developers, Epic Games' Tim Sweeney was on hand to vouch for the PS3, saying it was "easy to program for" and that Epic had received its first PS3 hardware two months ago. He proved the tech demo was real time by showing it again and manipulating the camera and zooming in. The PlayStation 3 will also sport some hefty multimedia features, such as video chat, internet access, digital photo viewing, digital audio and video. Sony Computer Entertainment head Ken Kutaragi introduced it as a "Super computer for computer entertainment."Andrescasta!!!

  9. The following was sent in by a good friend of mine & is probably the most negative review of Half-Life 2 you'll find anywhere just to be clear again, this is NOT my review, I merely offer this as an interesting counterpoint to all the praise other reviews have offered.Half Life 2: The MilestoneAs a game, Half-Life 2 might very well be the game that puts me off all computer games for a long, long time. Ironic, given the fact that this game has been heralded as the savior of computer games. The ultimate, next-generation, first person shooting game that will finally show off how far we have come in these last few years. Looking at the reviews, you?d think it had delivered in spades. Unfortunately every single reviewer has felt the need to give this game as many accolades as possible. At this stage I?m convinced that every single one of those reviewers is severely mentally retarded. I just cant see how anyone could possibly derive any kind of real enjoyment from this game seeing as how it?s identical in every way to every single first person shooter ever produced before it. I don?t want to drag this out for too long so let me just say that the game has been sold on a foundation of deceit, lies and fancy marketing.Having completed the game a few days back, I quit the application (as the final credits rolled) and slumped back in my chair absolutely sickened. Questions had arisen and they needed immediate answering.?Had I gotten some defective, retarded version of the game???Where was the enemy AI that was allegedly so ****-hot it could get inside my brain and psycho-analyze me and know my every move before I did???Where was the physics engine that was to make every single thing in the game destructible, opening up a whole new world of gaming?? ?Where was the virtual world where everything I did had an effect on everything else, and my every action would influence the game in a magical and unique way??The Enemy AIEither I am the perfect killer and assassin and an intellectual marvel? or else the AI is pretty damn stupid. The game itself admits this halfway through, when it broadcasts the message telling the guards that if they can?t deal with one puny physicist in an orange suit, then they are officially retarded. If Valve knew that the AI was bad then why didn?t they patch it up a little rather then making lame in-jokes?By the end of the first couple of levels I had accounted for approximately 200 enemy soldiers. Granted they didn?t have the luxury of respawning and trying again lots of times like I did (although I rarely had to make use of this luxury), but even so that?s a pretty respectable body count considering my character is an untrained physicist armed with a crowbar.Nope? all the poor guards can do within the pathetic confines of their AI is stand around in two?s and three?s and wait for me to kill them. That is their sole reason for existing as far as I could see. The Gordon Freeman character progresses linearly through the game, killing these mindless drones in order of appearance and conveniently re-spawning Groundhog Day-style whenever he does finally succumb to the guard?s gunfire. It?s pretty pathetic really. In the promotional clips that were released some months before the game came out, the developers tried to illustrate the intelligence of the enemies. I witnessed an enemy soldier (who was attempting to locate the player) check a door which was barricaded, then attempt to shoot though the door and the barricade, before giving up and throwing a grenade in through the window. Apparently, the enemy had carried out just one on of many possible responses to the situation, and the game would surprise and delight the player every time it was played. The enemy never once employed any semblance of intelligence to take me down at any stage throughout the game. I even went out of my way to recreate the bit from the promotional clip? to no avail.Oh sure, guards shoot from behind walls sometimes and occasionally throw a grenade my way, but they ALWAYS inevitably ended up charging headlong into my waiting machine guns?.Which is an admirably brave decision to make it has to be said, but one which gets very old after a couple of hours of it from a players point of view. They are pretty retarded given that that game loads up in a sequential series of small chunks, so it?s not like they have a huge world to interact with or anything. They basically have enough AI to maneuver them around whatever small room or arena they happen to be placed. It becomes boring and repetitive after just the first five minutes. That leads me onto the levels and the level design. Am I the only one who sees a problem with a game that promises plenty of freedom of expression and delivers a severely linear series of small area?s where the goal in each one is simply to move through each one to the other side?? How many times can a person kill a handful of soldiers and open a switch over and over again before it becomes mind numbing??The striders are quiet impressive when they first appear in the game. I had envisioned epic running battles with them through the streets of city 17 with fully destructible scenery splintering all around me as they stalked me with their huge laser weapons? and then I confronted them and my hopes were dashed. The ****ing things follow the same path around and around and around in a circle, regardless of what the player does. Sometimes they bend down? I?m not 100% sure why but it didn?t make them any tougher to kill. Nor did the generous helping of rockets and conveniently placed discarded rocket launchers. It?s the age-old problem, which was epitomized in the Deus Ex games. Basically if you are confronted with three locked doors in the game then searching nearby crates and bins will yield three lock picks. Possibly some power armour, nano upgrades and ammunition. Realism and believability comes a poor second to lazy programming.I could almost have played Half Life 2 blindfolded. When you reach a mounted machine gun you know its going to trigger a little wave of attackers for you to shoot down, because that?s what every other game before it has done.I?ve seen it all before. We all have.Is this what every games reviewer in the world is ****ting their pants over? Was this why I waited for two hours online for my game to ?unlock?? Can?t people see that we?re just playing the same game over and over again? Medal of Honour, Call of Duty, Half Life? the only difference is the cover of the games box. Linear series of small arena?s interrupted by cut sequences.Andrescasta!!!
