I like Linux very mush, I am moderator on some Serbian Linux forums, I write for our Serbian Linux magazin (Gnuzilla) and I like it very much. I use Gentoo Linux, Fluxbox desktop, xmms music player, xine video player, xcdroast burnerWorker filemanager, Opera browser, sylpheed-claws mail client, Gaim messinger, GIMP image editor TVtime for watching tv etc. I have been runed Half Life under linux, it work fine with cedega emulator (note. cedega iz new generation of winex emulator). This can be find in https://www.transgaming.com/ but it is not free.

Photoshop CS is not supported, but there are some users that have been installed it, as far as I know. Photoshop 7 is 100% supported in Cross Over Office, and I think it work with wine alsow.

HM, is it only with Xp?, it is on Linux OS, I dont use Windows for a very long time.And no, eny gentoo does not look like this, I have veru much time to spent on configuring Fluxbox desktop, but on linux, you have some desktop that is very easu to configure, eg, KDE or gnome. For better explanation, Linux comunity have much desktop enviroment, eg. fluxbox is fast, and it is hard to make it look good, KDE is complete Desktop, with mail client, browser, filemanager, music player, etc. should I say something like Windows, but of course it is not so fast. Anu user can choose which desktop to use. I like stable and fast, so.

It is alredy changed, and, of course, there is veru user-friendly linux distributions (SUSE, Mandrake), and desktop enviroments (KDE). But there are still some dificulty for people to get used to it, and many programs are still needed to run under emulation (eg. MM. Flash), but 90% of programs have their replacemant on this platform.Of course there is bad Hardware support, or should I say non hardware support. For now kernel devlopers writte their own drivers, but big hardware companies gave only drivers for WXXXX and in some cases for Mac. Only Nvidia graphics, Intel modems, ... have good suport.

I use Sylpheed-claws, and I think it is very good. I was useing Opera, then Thunderbird, but claws is much faster and have more options.

Can you use Radio with Firefox, can you use GIMP, which is much better in soma cases than Photoshop (I can not work with photoshop, becouse I am so much useing Gimp, that i forget photoshop), and Ofice, I wouldn't say Open Office, Abiword, Koffice...

On the other hand Win people say Windows is beter, and when you ask why, they say jyst something like Becouse, or It is, or It is simple...My point is this: Do not just say linux is better, Say, linux can do this, it have this and this... The first think is one that windows gEys do.

I have not try SUSE very much, but I hear a lot about it. On the other hand, I have been useind Mandrake for half year and think that Official Powerpack mandrake is very stable to use, the other think is if you have Mandrake Comunity, but...

For beginers MANDRAKE 10.1 PowerPack should do evry job. It is easy to install, have many programs, alredy buil in drivers for Nvidia, Radeon, some modems ETC. Of course I don´t want to say SUSE is bad, it is alsow for beginers, and it is very good, but I like Mandrake more. Rad Hat is not rely for beginers, do not use it!!! Photoshop 7 can be run on linux with emulators, try Cross Over Office https://www.codeweavers.com/, but there is better solution GIMP http://www.gimp.org/ in mandrake you will alredy have gimp 2.0, actual version is gimp 2.2. In begining you will have some throubles to use it, but after some time gimp will be your favorite. For html you have easy to use programs like NVU or Mozilla composer and programs for experts like Blue Fish or Quanta, I use blue Fish, and it is very good. Of course Dreamweaver can be runed on linux by emulators (Cross Over Office) You have Firefox browser who is originaly written for linux, and you have Mozilla, Opera, Konqueror, Nautilus... You have Thunderbird who is originaly written for linux, and you have Kmail, Evolution, Opera mail, and many, many mail clients. Almost all of this programs are included on Mandrake.

Please use OPEN SOURCE software, and do not use windows stuff if they are not needed to you. Any Windows program have his Linux twin, so...

So you just say that you know nothing. Open source & Free software fondation have even better programers, it have WHOLE WORLD to work on it, make changes and if they are good they are there in next version. Tipicaly if some bug is found n linux pach comes in 1-2 days, on windows it takes a mont, in the mean time there are more 100000 of bugs so... Even the newest, BIG research showed that open source software have more bugfixes and faster development. End you forgot that microsoft put some of his own tnihgs in C++ so it can be beter for world domination. One of profesor in my country said. Make a program where ever you vish, you can use notepad if you like, bit if that dont want to compile with gcc you vill not pass the grade. So gcc is universal, you vrite program on it and it vill work where ever you vant. Write it on Microsoft and you got Microsoft only program. Yes Solaris is traditional UNIX such as Free BSD but BSD´s are under BSD licence, end solaris is not. Solaris excisted before Linux. UNIX becomed closed code, so there comes Richie. When Richard found Free Software Fondation he make all of program that he needed, except of Kernel. While he have much throuble with it´s own GNU HURD Linus cemed up with his kernel. Now kernel (Linux) and the aplications (GNU) are open source and freedom of which Richard was talking is finaly there for people that want to take it. There are a lot´s of changes that are comeing in future. Many of them will need more of procesor power, and if you want to walk with tehnology you will use Linux. What can I say whwn I see that windows does not have his own FTP (it comes from BSD, can´t you imagine). Alsow so popular IE can not read PNG pictures. What can I say. They can not keep in touch vith fast tehnology developing as vell as Linux does. . . may be theu are becoming scared, who knows...

It eat all of your procesor and graphic power. I just hope this will be future, and that some day you can have real 3D desktop on screen. I like it is just for unix-likie OS.

Sory I did not see this, you have Mozilla composer and NVU that are almost the same and they are for biginers. When you learn something more, you can try bluefish quanta screem.So if you are biginer in web desing use NVu if you like to do much things by your own use BlueFish

XINE is alsow good program for avi files. It has many configuration option in his GUI, so if you use linux, you must try this.
