  1. When I started this thead, it was intended to be a learning experience for everyone to follow at Xisto. But it appears, after reading through the entire thread again, that it became a house of jesters.

That's becaues you haven't taught anyone anything except that you know how to blow your own trumpet. All you've done is give unsubstantiated figures as to how many backlinks you've got with no clue as to how you got them. How is that teaching anyone anything?
If you don't like the attitude some people are displaying towards you it's because you've brought it on yourself with your ever so slightly holier-than-thou attitude.
As for 'snide' and 'belittling' - 'snide' at a stretch, but it's more like skeptical; and if you've felt belittled at all you either need to get a thicker skin or find a dictionary.

  2. Anyone who is stupid enough to experiment with these things are... well, stupid.

Experimentation is not stupid. That's how we learn things - by trying them out and learning from the experiences whether positive or negative. Without experimentation none of the technology that we benefit from today would exist. Now I'm not advocating that everyone should go out and try all manner of drugs/alcohol, but saying experimentation is stupid is ... well ... stupid.

  3. I dont think that Google will be the new Microsoft because they dont have nearly enough profit to get that successful. Most of what Microsoft does and makes costs money, while many google features are free. I'll say that Google is as popular as Microsoft, but they will never be as successful as a business. Do you see what Im saying?

Sounds like you don't really understand Google's business model then. Taken from here:

Microsoft has come to accept the bitter truth that Google is not like its other rivals that can be written-off. Google with a market capitalization of around $113 billion is growing at a rapid rate. The company dazed the Wall Street analysts with its first-quarter revenue of $2.25 billion, reflecting a 79% growth over the year-ago quarter. For the first quarter ended March 31, 2006, Google earned $592.3 million or $1.95 per share, compared to $369.2 million or $1.29 per share in the same period last year.
Google's stock has risen 110% in the past year and surged 430% from a mere $85 a share when it went public in August 2004. RBC Capital Markets analyst Jordan Rohan said the stock might reach $465 from an earlier prediction of $435 and Goldman Sachs analyst Anthony Noto is more optimistic and has a price target of $525.

In sharp contrast, Microsoft's stock price has barely budged since 2002. Microsoft, which reported its third quarter results for the period ended March 31, 2006 posted revenues of $10.9 billion, up 13% from a year earlier. Net income for the quarter was $2.98 billion or $0.29 a share, compared to $2.56 billion or $0.25 a share in the prior year.

Bill Gates fears Google more than any other company. No wonder, Microsoft's strategic conference for key executives held last year was titled "The Google Challenge."

  4. Some people charge cheap not because they aren't that good, it is because maybe they feel it is easy to make sites and feel people don't have to bay hundreds of dollars.

If you're charging 'cheap' then you're obviously not doing it as your sole source of income. I doubt there'd be very few who consider themselves professionals who only charge a little because they don't feel people should have to pay too much. If you're doing it as a business and aiming to make money, you won't be solely thinking about the customer, you'll be thinking about yourself too.

  5. IMHO It doesn't matter whether the maker of the website is a pro or amature as long as the site looks professional. I'd rather pay $100 for a professional site made by amatures rather than $1000 to a professional to make a professional site.

The difference between a pro and an amateur is that a pro will make your site look good in a variety of browsers on all platforms at different screen resolutions and at different text sizes. The site should also be accessible to people using other devices like screenreaders. The site should also be optimised well for search engines.

But the most fundamental difference between the two is that a professional will create a website that meets a certain set of criteria/targets. A site is a failure if it looks good, but doesn't actually do what it was intended to do. A lot of people who want websites don't have a clear idea of what they want a site for. The professional web designer can help people identify their goals and suggest ways that their website can achieve them. The pro will also monitor the site over time to make sure that is continuing to meet those goals and amend it if is not.

Now, if you think you can get all of that for $100 you're dreaming.

  6. Google has not really changed the face of anything in my eyes.

Then you're not looking properly. Google is controlling the information that the world receives. Increasingly, if a piece of info isn't on Google, it doesn't exist and that trend is growing stronger all the time. Experts predict that if things continue as they are, there will be no longer be any information that doesn't appear in Google's searches which means that Google will effectively control all knowledge available to mankind.
