  1. This is one of the biggest attack on our country. It is showing our intelligence failure. The news has confirmed that the terrorists are Pakistanis and all of them are youngsters. They came from Karachi to Mumbai on boats. The NSG operations are still going on in Mumbai. Still 40 victims are in Terrorist's coustody. 7 terrorists were killed this morning by black commandos. Everybody is hoping that the Operation would end this afternoon and everything will be under control. Hope everything will be under control. My condolences to all victims...

    That's too bad!
I pray the recovery as soon as possible.

  2. Since ActionScript.org appears to be down, I'm going to annoy you all with more design questions. :)
I know I can use the getURL and URLLoader classes to bring HTML content into Flash. But can these also be used if I only want to show part of an HTML page? For example, if the content I want to show is in a <div> tag, and that's all I want to show, how would I go about calling for that part of the HTML source?

    Thanks in advance...

    How about flashprobe?

  3. The servers of Xisto are located in California as well I think, and seeing as all the servers are fine as is, i do not think they have been affected. I'm just hoping Opaque and his family are alright.

    Thank you for your information.

I have confirmed both Xisto.com and qupis.com servers are in California, USA in

I have misunderstood that the servers are in India because the Xisto company is in India.

  4. A disaster happened in Mumbai as the below article.
I hope this did NOT affect on Xisto servers in India.

Whenever disaster strikes Mumbai, as it seems to again and again, we mouth platitudes about the city’s resilience, its fight. We expect it to dust itself off and start again. We have big expectations of this city; we feel its joys and sorrows keenly. After all, we like to think of ourselves as modern, and this was once the metropolis that exemplified Indian modernity. So, seeing Mumbai devastated and brought down feels personal no matter where you’re from. Personal because it’s a part of us: we go to big cities seeking our private grails. Mumbai, like all great cities, invites identification; it is bigger than the sum of its parts.
Of course much of this is wish-fulfilment. Much like the splendid old façade of the Taj Mahal Hotel, that hybrid, generous conception of Bombay has taken a body blow. From repeated terrorist attacks or from the provincial pettiness of its politics, there have been attempts to serially diminish Mumbai. Even as the city reels from this shock, we know this is not the first time that the great thrumming engine of the metropolis has been under attack — from communal anger, from natural disaster, from the malevolent energies of its own citizens scrabbling over its spoils.

Soon, normality will reassert itself in Mumbai. Trade and art and entertainment and commerce and everyday life will resume. People will move on, because what else is there to do? But events like this can simultaneously bring out the best and worst in us — in days to come, will the city we’ve all thought of as ours react out of insecurity or out of strength? It could retreat into a fearful shell, to fortify its frontiers and react with wariness; but what we want is for it to stand up and square its shoulders, and refuse to relinquish its freedoms. Once again, Mumbai will have to bear the weight of our outsized expectations.

WRAPUP 17-Indian commandos battle to retake Mumbai hotels11.27.08, 04:34 PM EST

    By Charlotte Cooper

MUMBAI, Nov 27 (Reuters) - Indian commandos fought to regain control of buildings in India's commercial capital, Mumbai, on Thursday after coordinated attacks by armed militants blamed by the prime minister on a 'terrorist' group outside the country.

Yahoo! BuzzPolice said 119 people had been killed and 315 wounded when a small army of gunmen -- at least some of whom arrived by sea -- fanned out across Mumbai to attack sites popular with tourists and businessmen, including two luxury hotels.

The Israeli embassy in New Delhi said at least 10 Israeli nationals were still trapped in buildings or held hostage more than 24 hours after the assault had begun.

Commandos were fighting room-to-room battles in the two hotels to rescue people trapped by the gunmen, police said.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh blamed militant groups based in India's neighbours, usually meaning Pakistan, raising fears of renewed tension between the nuclear-armed rivals.

'It is evident that the group which carried out these attacks, based outside the country, had come with single-minded determination to create havoc in the commercial capital of the country,' he said in a televised address. 'We will take the strongest possible measures to ensure that there is no repetition of such terrorist acts.'

    Comment On This Story

Around two dozen militants in their early 20s, armed with automatic rifles and grenades and carrying backpacks full of ammunition, had spread out across the city to attack sites which also included a Jewish centre. At least some of them had come ashore in what police said was a rubber dinghy.

They commandeered a vehicle and sprayed passers-by with bullets, fired indiscriminately in a train station, hospitals and a popular tourist cafe. They also attacked two of the city's poshest hotels packed with tourists and business executives.

'The situation is still not under control and we are trying to flush out any more terrorists hiding inside the two hotels,' said Vilasrao Deshmukh, chief minister of Maharashtra state which is home to Mumbai.

    STRAIN ON PAKISTAN TIES?

The death toll was only an estimate in an attack which brought the biggest chaos to the city since serial bombings in 1993 killed 260 people and injured hundreds.

India blamed crime syndicates in the 'Bollywood' underworld for that attack and saw it as revenge for the death of Muslims in Hindu-Muslim violence. It said the perpetrators had later found refuge in Pakistan.

Pakistan condemned the latest attacks on Mumbai and promised full cooperation.

The use of heavily armed 'fedayeen' -- attackers who are willing to fight to the death but not necessarily suicide bombers -- bore the hallmarks of Pakistan-based Kashmiri militant groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba or Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Both groups made their name fighting Indian rule in disputed Kashmir, and were closely linked in the past to the Pakistani military's Inter Services Intelligence agency, the ISI.

They were also blamed for an attack on India's parliament in 2001 which brought the two countries close to a fourth war.

    WALKING PAST DEAD BODIES

J K. Dutt, head of the National Security Guards, told the NDTV news channel that operations were continuing at the hotels.

At the Trident-Oberoi 'we have been able to engage two terrorists,' he said. 'At the Taj, one terrorist has been engaged. He has been injured, and we should be able to mop up the operation fairly quickly.'

Flames billowed from an upper floor of the Trident-Oberoi where 20 to 30 people were thought to have been taken hostage and more than 100 others were trapped in their rooms.

Earlier, explosions rattled the nearby Taj Hotel as the troops flushed out the last of the militants there. Fire and smoke plumed from an open window.

Dipak Dutta told NDTV news after being rescued that he had been told by troops escorting him through the corridors not to look down at any of the bodies.

'A lot of chef trainees were massacred in the kitchen.'

At least six foreigners, including one Australian, a Briton, an Italian and a Japanese national were killed.

A militant holed up at a Jewish centre phoned an Indian television channel to offer talks with the government for the hostages' release. He complained of abuses in Kashmir, over which India and Pakistan have fought two of their three wars.

    BAREFOOT THROUGH BLOOD

Australian actress Brooke (nasdaq: BXXX - news - people ) Satchwell, who starred in the Neighbours television soap opera, said she narrowly escaped the gunmen by hiding in a hotel bathroom cupboard.

'There was someone dead outside the bathroom,' she told Australian television. 'The next thing I knew I was running down the stairs and there were a couple of dead bodies across the stairs. It was chaos.'

'We threw ourselves down under the reception counter,' Esperanza Aguirre, head of Madrid's regional government, said.

'I took off my shoes and we left being pushed along by the hotel staff,' she said. 'I didn't see any terrorists or injured people. I just saw the blood I had to walk through barefoot.'

Andreas Liveras, a Cypriot with British nationality who spoke to the BBC hours before the Cypriot foreign ministry said he had died said: 'All we know is the bombs are next door and the hotel is shaking every time a bomb goes off.'

Singh said New Delhi would 'take up strongly' the use of neighbours' territory to launch attacks on India.

'The well-planned and well-orchestrated attacks, probably with external linkages, were intended to create a sense of terror by choosing high-profile targets.'

Lashkar-e-Taiba denied any role in the attacks, and said it had no links with any Indian group. Instead, the little-known Deccan Mujahideen claimed responsibility.

'Release all the mujahideens, and Muslims living in India should not be troubled,' said a militant inside the Oberoi, speaking to Indian television by telephone.

Authorities closed stock, bond and foreign exchange markets, and the central bank said it would continue auctions to keep cash flowing through interbank lending markets, which seized up after the global financial crisis.

Police said they had shot seven gunmen and arrested nine suspects. They said 12 policemen were killed, including Hemant Karkare, the chief of the police anti-terrorist squad in Mumbai.

I reinstall (restore) windows almost every 2-3 months. What about you??? Seeing the title some would say "I do it daily" and some others "How to reinstall?". Let's see the poll results. Linuxers, see you in other post.

Reinstalling windows is a daily chore for the students studying computers. They have to switch a lot of softwares, compilers etc etc. Windows as we know, will not tolerate a whole lot of (Un)installations and will ultimately slow down the whole system. This is not the case with Linux. Just consider this, I installed Red Hat WS 3(the older version which was lurking around with me) a year ago, full installation (4GB). The boot time initially was terribly slow. Because by default Linux runs everything during startup, even the sendmail daemon(it takes around 10 seconds) which is not needed for normal use. Then I read articles about linux and disabled all those stuff. The change was just superb and still haven't reinstalled it. Back to windows..

I actually wanted to give you some tips on reinstalling windows. Especially the professionals, say web developers using dreamweaver, flash, local apache, php. They setup nice settings to suit there needs. After this why reinstall??? Forget those students, what if your system gets virus, ok you're using the anti*** but they don't always help. For example some days ago my system was hacked by some .scr scripts. The result, my whole folders in root of every drive(even C:) was hidden and also creating there respective blank folders(basically .scr extension with folder images). I knew it immediately because I always keep the settings "Show hidden files", "show system files", "show extension of known file types" checked. Amazingly the script took back its work after rebooting. But now I wasn't able to see hidden files and extension. It did all sorts of registry edits. I had to reinstall... Oops again off track, now back to the tips...

    Reinstalling Windows (The good way):

First method:This one is a common one. You install some software like Norton Ghost and make up a backup of freshly installed system (Fresh windows with essential softwares installed) and burn it to dvd. Now whenever the system crashes you just restore it with dvd. Check those tons of articles for more info on this.

Second method: I worked out this trick which I thought will never work. The basics are same you install fresh copy of windows with essential softwares like antivirus. Now you archive everything in your C: drive like .zip(it takes time) and either move the archive to another drive or burn it to dvd. NOw when odd thing happens you just pop in some live cd distros of linux which support the fat partition viewing and format the C: drive(you can use win cd's fdisk for formating) and restore it with the archive which you placed in other drive or dvd. Voila! Isn't that fantastic. It saves you money buying software like Norton Ghost. Any opinions, help request about this trick are welcome.

If you don't want to reinstall windows there are some rollback softwares available which restore windows to previous state in case of power failure (hoping this is not your case) or other problems. There is also one software (anybody point out that please) which disregards any changes during a session including folders created or softwares installed. This one is very useful for internet cafes.

That's enough from me. Now its your turn to tell everything you wanted to about this topic.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Thank you for your information.

I reinstall more than a year.

  9. These days, more of us are turning to home remedies because they are conveniently available (on the net, your friend, your mum...), are said to be tried and tested, and let's face it, rising costs of everything, including consultation fees, are not helping at all. However, while some home remedies appear to work, some have no scientific basis and may cause harm that you are unaware of until the problem gets significant enough to be noticed.

    Treating burns with butter

Butter may actually cause infections for deep burns. This is because the skin's protective function has been damaged during the burn. Butter itself is not a sterile item, so when placed on a wound without protection, it could introduce bacteria which causes the infection.

An alternative and safer home remedy is to use cold water on mild burns to reduce the injury. Do not use ice as it will constrict your blood circulation. If there is a blister, prick it gently so that the fluid can be removed while leaving the skin intact. You can use a wet compress to remove excess fluids later. If the burn is serious, go to your doctor.

Removing eye styes by piercing them with a needle

Styes on the eyelids are extremely near your eyeballs. If you use a sharp needle so near your eye, you may accidentally hurt your eyeball.

The safer home remedy is to soak a clean towel in boiled water, then use it to compress the stye. Doing this helps to improve the blood circulation, consequently softening the stye. After that, you can apply antiseptic eye cream on the stye. You can get it at any pharmacy.

Treating acne by applying toothpaste on it

Actually, toothpaste could cause your acne to worsen by causing irritation or burns on the surrounding area. Some toothpaste contains high amounts of hydrogen peroxide. Too much hydrogen peroxide can burn your skin.

A safe, alternate medication for your acne is diluted vinegar or diluted salt water. Applying these to your problem areas help reduce the swelling of acne.

Removing fish bone stuck in throat using fingers

You may end up pushing the fish bone further down the throat with your fingers. Your fingernails may even pierce the tissue lining of your throat.

Instead, go to the nearest doctor immediately. This is a severe problem which can be really dangerous if you try to solve it yourself because there are many important and delicate organs below your esophagus. Usually, the person won't choke to death immediately as long as he doesn't try to swallow it or move too vigorously in attempts to dislodge the bone.

Removing finger warts by cutting them off

Most people are not professionals at cutting finger warts and may end up leaving deep cuts that cause damage to the skin. Also, using dirty or contaminated instruments to cut the warts may cause an infection.

Instead, use a pumice stone to file it away. You should be able to purchase it from your pharmacy. If you want quick results, you should have a doctor remove it surgically.

Removing ear wax through ear candling

Our ears are actually self-cleansing. By inserting foreign objects such as buds or ear candle cones into the ear, you may end up with complications such as ear infections and compressed ear wax, which could lead to clocked ears.

Instead, use ear drops, which can be found at pharmacies, which softens ear wax and allows it to flow out naturally.

Before you subscribe to a home remedy, do research, try to find some scientific basis in it, and above all, trust your common sense.

  10. Hello, my name is Blair. I'm a student and I'm here to help my friend, who runs a site with you guys but sometimes finds it hard to keep up with hosting credits (:

Forums are fun~! You guys have IPB; nice...

A random tidbit about myself: As you can tell from the topic title I'm... a fan of the French language. Either that, or I just like attention. Well, that's a bit of oh-so-valuable information for you all. =]

    Anyway, nice to be here.

    Bonjour

    blair25

I once studied French and I can understand French a little.

    Keep enjoying the forum.

  11. don't use tk sites. it blasts visitors with a full page advertisement and that's just plain annoying and will put your visitors off. I've used co.cc before. It's not bad. A piece of advice though. If you have a co.cc domain with a domain you are planning to use when you buy your top-level domain (e.g. you have ivantoear.co.cc and intend to go with ivantoear.com), and your website becomes popular later, chances are, someone may snap up all the main tlds ivantoear.com, ivantoear.net etc if you are not quick enough to buy your domain before that. This is because those chaps buy these domains to sell them back at high price.

    Bishoujo

    Nice to meet you.
    I visited your site http://princesstimes.com/
    and I saw at
    http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
that your URL would be moved to http://www.princesstimes.co.cc/
    but I found only 404 at http://www.princesstimes.co.cc/

Has your site's transformation finished yet?

    p.s.
By the way, does your banner's letter's "gingko" mean "bank"(gin-kou) in Japanese?

  12. As I'm starting with my forum. I'm planning to get a domain name. Can you recommend me what's a good free domain? I've seen a few with .tk and .co.cc. Any better suggestion? Or what should I take? .tk or .co.cc? Thanks

    ivantoar
I think .co.cc is the better between the 2 choices.
".tk" is only URL forwarding so it can not be told "free domain".

    I have a free ".co.cc" domain
    http://actuary-math.co.cc/

I think you will be able to search e.g. in google.

  13. I have a question regarding SSH as well. That is how you would install things like Teamspeak or whatever, right?(Or are there other uses as well?)
If so, does this mean that we are allowed to do that on our trap server, or would that be denied to us?

    Thanks in advance!

    rpgsearcherz

    Thank you for your advice.
I do not intend to install Teamspeak or whatever.
I have thought that I would like to compile some C programs (not made by myself).
I understand we are NOT prohibited to C compiling but if we ARE prohibited I will give up.

  14. I am Shaulbarlev. I am from Israel. I am eight years old and I study in second grade at school.I love computers and I have female dog named Rose which I like very much. Rose is a brown long hair dachshund. My dog is one year older than me. I am learning to play the organ and lately I started to play the violin as well.
I am teaching myself HTML with a book that my older sister gave me. After comleting some of the exercises in the book, I have the the first HTML page that I can see in my browser. I prefer to have a real domain and put my site on the web.
I was googling for hosting services and found this interesting site. The content of my site would probably be games and short clips.

    :):P

    shaulbarlev
    Nice to meet you!

  15. 000webhost sucks, bottom line. They used to offer free cpanel, but they don't anymore. Plus, they;ve openly said that they won't be free forever. There's gonna come a point when they will be charging for hosting.

Today I have found that 000webhost's storages expanded up to 1500MB(=1.5GB).
    I have already a 000webhost site
    http://www.actuary-math.co.cc/
and I confirmed that the storage of the site also expanded.

  16. Who here hate smokers? I mean, they go into a restaurant, sit in a non-smoking section, and smoke, ignoring the sign. I also want to tell everybody that 2nd hand smoking is actually worse than the smoker himself smoking it. In Houston, the mayor has already banned smoking in restaurants. Well, you know my vent, I hate it when people smoke right in front of you while you're in a casual conversation. I can't stand the smell. I know I can't just cover my nose so I usually just walk away. I think smoking should be banned and I hope it will...sometime...soon...

    NovaTerra

I do not like smokers either.
In Japan some politician say the price of 1 box of cigars(10 cigars) should be about 10 dollors(1,000 Japanese Yen) from 3 dollars(300 Yen).

  17. Wanna surf the internet without opening up internet explorer, firefox, or opera? This trick might save you from detention when you go back to school and go on my site.
Open up Notepad. Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Notepad

Press F1 to bring up the Help.

Click the top left corner (the icon) of the help window.

    Select Jump to URL

    Type in http://nerdnirvana.org/.

Now when your teachers come around to check out the windows youve opened, you wont get caught!

Thank you for your nice idea.
I tried your idea and I found the browsing as you wrote but unfortunately the sites that I visited through Notepad help were also left at IE history.
If we would like to avoid the thing we have to delete IE history ( from the menu bar Tool(T)-> Internet Option(O)), but this is the same when we visit through IE.

And perhaps you know, the access log in your school can NOT be deleted so if you made some troubles with the sites your access might be detected.

But I became a little wiser that I knew I could access the Internet through the Notepad.

  18. Unfortunately, I do. But the relief is, I don't have to wear them all the time. My vision is fine, I just have trouble reading well and seeing from long distances. But my parents force me to where them while on the computer, watching Television, and when I read.
Does anyone else have glasses? Do you use them all the time, and what for?

    AndrewJ
I have been wearing glasses for nearsightedness except I am sleeping for a quater century.

  19. The second one, best way to go about this is to translate your website both in English and whatever language your choose and put somewhere a language option menu for users to chose which language they want to view your website. However, if you don't want to go through that hassle just have your index page in English stating what your website is about and the rest can be in any language you want. Or another option would be to have tools such as altavista to help translate the website for you as well.

    Saint_Michael

Thank you very much for your quick and detailed advice!

I would like to refer your advice.
