Ok, first off, thinking things through and looking at the basics of mySQL, I decided that this most likely will be the best way for me to display the info I'm trying to get out instead of generating one huge file for people to download every time they want to look at it.I'm only going to use examples that seem to easily show what I'm looking to do.Lets say I'm trying to display types of fruit. This would be useful if, say, you had an unknown fruit and were trying to determine what it actually was, along with a recipe to cook your fruit. In the database, you'd obviously have listed all types of fruit, and all the ways you'd like people to be able to look for their fruit. The idea I have is having a dropdown menu with different variables to search for (color, shape, size, etc.), then a text feild next to the dropdown menu in which someone could submit a keyword to search by. So, say you had a red fruit. In the dropdown menu, you could set it to "Color" and then in the search field, type in the word "Red" then hit submit. At this point it would go and look for all matches in the database that would match the Color=Red search, then display it back on your page in a nice table, with each matching result's Name, Recipe, Color, etc.Now that's the idea ~ how do I turn the idea into a functioning page? And is there a fairly simple way for me to lay all this information out without having to enter line after line of mySQL commands to get the data into the tables I'd need, such as a GUI interface?

Hmm... having the same prob, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I create the account, set the password, set the directory they can upload to. I open smartFTP and punch in newuser@mysubdomain.astahost.com, enter the user name I just set, and the password I just set, yet it still says "Authentication failed."

Typography An important thing of design
nachtgeist03 replied to hihihihi88's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Typography is, as others have said, one of the most important elements to a design of any type. @Dream ~ couldn't agree more, I'm soo sick of seeing junk designs where it's hot pink on a fuscia background. Excuse me a moment while I mop up the blood my eyes are secreting... And the same can be said for tiling backgrounds. I see it all too often where it's some 100px X 100px image tiled 100 times throughout the background, and it's in colors that you couldn't possibly hope to match a text color to that would lend to easy reading. As for the pdf that's attached ~ what, may I ask, is the point of it? I mean not to be rude, but all I see there are press alignment marks (I forget their exact name as it's been almost 5 years since I was doing printing) and I wonder what it is you're trying to show people. -
I really do enjoy my gmail account, and I find it rather humorous how I'll have 50 invitations to send to people for gmail, send a bunch of invites, then out of the blue, I'm back up at 50 invites again :POverall, I love the service. Get the gmail notify proggie, it's small and un-obnoxious, and it alerts you as to when you've gotten an email in your box along with the sender, title, and first line of the email. Only gripe with the notifier is I've noticed it's a bit on the laggy side ~ I'll archive a message, and it will take a minute or two for my gmail client to see that I no longer have unread threads in my inbox.

*bows* you are the man :PThanks a ton, I'll try to get this all implemented tonight after work. I'd start now but I doubt I'd be able to keep tryack of my time

John, you almost hit it square on the head. I'm only looking to change the text color on a few links (text nav bar), and it is through just plain 'ole <a> </a> tags.I know there's also a way to have one css script, and have every page call back to that script for direction. It would be nice to be able to change the hover color on all the pages with that text nav bar w/o having to independantly re-code each css. A bit of insight as to how to accomplish that would be welcomed. And on another side note, you put in "background-color" ~ obviously if I wanted to not have that, just don't put that in, right? And m^e ~ thanks for the input as always; always welcomed :rolleyes:Thanks guys (and gals if appropriate)

Can't Login From Some Computers...
nachtgeist03 replied to madcrow's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I'm having the same exact problem as madcrow, but it's on my home PC. I was able to get in once using the ip/cpanel, but any time I'd try to do something, it'd kick me back to the login page. Not to mention, when I WAS able to login that way, all of the objects were out of places and all images had broken links. HELP! -
Please lock topic.

Tell me then, where exactly would you have posted it?

Tried to go to http://forums.xisto.com/ and the msn "Cannot find page" comes up, and I try my bookmark to their forums, and that gives a can't find page/dns error screen. Just wondering what's going on over there/letting you know that there's something wrong.Oh, and hi Xisto people

Ok, since I know I'm not the only one here who enjoys photoshop, I figured I'd share some of my techniques to making a sig background. This will teach you some basic brushing techniques. First off, open up a new document of any size. I prefer the 380px by 80px size myself: I always start my documents off with a transparent background. First thing to do is fill your canvas with a color of your choice. I chose black myself. Make a new layer by clicking the button shown: Next thing to do is find some brushes that you enjoy. I found these brushes used in the tutorial at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Pick the brush you want to use, choose a foreground color that matches well with the background color, then click and release once on your background without moving the brush. For my example I chose white. This is what I got: I've found that the way to produce your best result is by only using a single brush once, or if it is an exceptionally large brush, using only one area of the brush in one spot on the background. I repeated picking different brushes and applying each on a seperate layer. This was my final product: You do not need to go overboard with your brushing to produce an eye-appealing result. Just be creative and have fun :- ) NOTE:: I do have a few .abr (brush) files that I converted from that website ready to go if anyone is interested. All credit is given in each brush file. ----------------- Tutorial first posted here. But since I wrote it, I can copy and paste it

Form Mail Php - Use Php To Send Form Through Email
nachtgeist03 replied to Dyth's topic in Programming
Many forums I've been to in the past view the digging up of old topics to be spammy, as a multitude of people will just go thread by thread and reply to everything, even though it has no current relevence. In any event, I'll be testing everything out and seeing if it all works the way I'm hoping it will sometime either today or tommorow. Thanks for the help up to now... -
Yeah, I agree zechs, that game is really not newbie-friendly. It helps a lot if you know someone in the game who knows what's going on, and can start you off with some lower cost, low end gear. Unfortunatly, since real world money is factored in, greed also plays a role in many choices that players make, hence a lot of the bickering in hunting parties "Start shooting more, we're using up a lot of ammo and you're just standing there!"

the name I entered was mout.astahost.com and it gave an error when I submitted saying "This is not a Xisto subdomain" or something similar.

A filtered approach to abstracts will be better than trying to instruct someone who's new to photoshop, as saying "get brushes" does not serve them justice. You told them where to get them. But what kind of brushes make for good abstracts? How do you install them? How do you use them? How do you use them in a correct mannor to get a pleasing effect?Besides, I know nobody who's first few times actually creating an art or artform in PS was that advanced. I know it's really not that hard, but you sit someone who's never looked at photoshop before in front of the interface, and they'll go "huh? what do I do now?". Telling them what menus to go through and what options to combine together will get them from point A to point B much faster.

I got approved for hosting today (thanks nilsC), and I was about to create my account, when I realized that the links provided under his reply: Were, as you can see, the same exact link, but one named for Xisto activation, and the other for Xisto info. Now the info on the page is great, but when I enter my desired subdomain under the .astahost.com sub on the registration page ([url}https://support.xisto.com/), it gives me an error saying that the desired subdomain is not a Xisto SD (duh ). Guess what I'm looking for if I can get a .astahost.com subdomain with my account, or if I have to take a Xisto SD. And if anyone yells at me about not searching for the a previous topic, I poked my nose around the first three pages in this sub-forum, re-read the rules (found it's not against rules to not use the search function ), and could not find the info I needed, hence the post. Thanks!

nice phoenix, I've played on there before. Have set the game aside for now, as I just got wore out on the constant bickering usually found inside hunting parties, and I haven't the time or the money to figure out the PE system of making money (if you'd like to enlighten me, PM me ). Had a male char on there for a while, Psyborg, and the char I've been playing recently was Veloce. Only hof I ever got was a 201 ped drop about 3 months ago (before FFXI came into my life).Anyways, enough ranting (sry on digging an old thread, stupid me forgot to look at the post date... )

Form Mail Php - Use Php To Send Form Through Email
nachtgeist03 replied to Dyth's topic in Programming
Well now, since the other was so rudely closed... (ironic as it was a moderator who initially replyed to my post... and the topic was left open... weird. And my appologies for digging up an close-to-month old topic... got yelled at for starting a new one...) If I understand this correctly, under this line: $post_page = "/";if the "/" is changed to a url, the url will be displayed after submission instead of:<html><head><title>You've successfully submitted the feedback</title></head><body><font face="Tahoma"> Thank you <?php print stripslashes($_POST['Name']); ?><br> Your form has been sent.<br><!-- Remember the $post_page variable that contained a link for the page to load after submission ? This is where it comes into action. If it is left "/" clicking this link will redirect you to you main index page. --> <a href="<?php print "$post_page"; ?>">Click here to continue</a></font></body></html> Or would I have to edit the html at the end of the code in order for it to display the "thank you" page I would like the users to see? Comments back from m^e on this would be appreciated, as it is their code... -

Here's some sigs I've done in the past, all (or mostly all) with photoshop. Some are better than others. Shameless plug goes to http://www.photobucket.com/ for their great image hosting (woops, sorry. Forgot that this last image here has a transparent background, where only the white on the "g" dips down below the sig. Highlight the pict to see it)

Ah yes, the magical and dreaded form. Anyways, just a small question regarding them.I've checked a few pages out that talk about the "action" prompt in the form coding. What I'm trying to achieve is having the form email an account of mine when the user hits "submit".Now I know the old, easy way out of this was to have action="mailto:my.email@my.email.box.com". After reading a bit on this (and trying it myself), I've discovered this is not a suitable solution. What happens when you use mailto in the form is when submit is clicked, it opens up your default email program (usually outlook for Win users). Obviously this can't be had :)Upon further reading (albeit vague reading), the pages I read talked about using a server-side php/cgi/asp file to send the mail. Only problem is, none of the sites gave examples of the file for people to examine and perhaps duplicate for their own uses.If someone could either post an example of one of these files, or give me a link not to the file it's self, but to a page the talks about what is actually going on inside the file, that would be great

Considering the topic name, I'll assume you're using Dreamweaver to code your pages.A really easy effect that adds just enough (if designed correctly of course) is a nice rollover effect on your navagation bar ~ you know, where when you mouse over a nav bar option, it chages color. Here's how to do the trick with images:First get two identical copies of one of your navagation bar items that you want to change color when you mouse over the image. Make sure the only difference between the two is their color. One will be the color of the button when it's moused off, and the other will be the color of the button when moused over.Fire up dreamweaver, and make a new page (or use one that you're already working on ). Place your first image where you'd like it to be.Now, hit Shift+F3 to open the behaviors window. You should notice a small + icon located in the behaviors window. Click this to open a menu, and select "Swap Image"This will open up a small window. Leave everything in the window alone, except for clicking the "Browse" button. Once browsing, navigate to your image that you will "replace" your first image with when you mouse over it. As long as the text on the button is the same size and in the same position, and the button's themselves are the same size where the only difference between the two is their colors, it will appear as a smooth rollover action.Select your replacement image, and hit OK, then hit OK again.Hit F12 to preview your page in IE, and mouse over your button. If everything turned out correctly, you should now have a smoothly color-changing button every time you mouse over him
