  1. Welcome here ! I'm quite new here also and as you, I'm really greatful I found this forum. I really like the concept and I hope I'll be here for a long time.
  2. ah ah sorry about the name ! I wasn't thinking about english people pronouncing it. For the explaination, I'm french and "crepuscule" means something in french ! Actually, it's the french equivalent for "dawn". You have now learn a new word . To pronounce it, hmmm, how can I explain you that ? I can't actually . But hell yeah, I didn't think that it would be a hard thing for you to pronounce. It's making me laugh now ! About alex, I think your name is harder for me to understand, maybe because it's a coder stuff . I keep my crepuscule, you keep your name. I hope I'll be able to reach the 250 credits for the free domain, but I don't know how much it can take... We'll see.Anyway, thanks all for the kind welcome. I'll try to do my best over here and not write too many mistakes in English...
  3. It's a very interesting feature and I'm sure it will push people to post more and interesting posts. I firstly registered for the ultra cool free web hosting feature, but now you're even offering free domain ! It's a great idea and it makes me wanna post more to get there but yeah it's still a long way for me. Anyway, I would like to thank the staff of trap for the great service and I hope this service will still be up when I get the 280 credits. Keep up the good work !
  4. Thanks for the objective review as you said. I was just pointed out to this free web hosting service. I said that I wasn't that good about doing reviews and plus, they aren't even that coherent about the amount of space and bw for free accounts... On the home page, they say 20gb space and 300gb bw but when you click on plans, there aren't the same features... Kind of weird because in your account, after registering, you get the 20gb and 300gb stuffs... We would need someone to fill the whole space to see which one is true.
  5. I like the bands that are already mentioned above but I must say that I prefer symphonic metal bands like Nightwish (the old one by the way...), Within Temptation, and some others that I'm used to listening often.
  6. I said in another thread that I was not going to switch from XP to Vista. Indeed, to me, Vista is not yet really "done" and XP is still much more powerful ! And yeah, when I heard that, I was quite shocked about it. Here in France, you can still chose between XP and Vista but people tend to get Vista easily... Maybe because they don't really know that XP is better. It's quite logical to me since "normally", when another version of a software is released, it's meant to be better. To me, that's not actually the case with Vista... I hope they will finally change their minds about that...
  7. I've never switched to Vista. I mean, XP has really much more power (until now) but maybe Vista will get better. Anyway, I've seen and used Vista on someone else's computer. Indeed it looks cuter with the default settings but after, it gets messy when you use it and not only look at the screen ! Anyway, I will wait until some important softwares get updated to run on Vista... which is not actually true for some programs. For the time being, I'm letting my XP running on my computer. It's already a good thing having it running without problems !By the way, if I remember well, I've heard something about Windows wanting to only release Vista on new computers... i don't remember the date they were talking about but I think that it was something about summer. Actually I'm too lazy to even go googling about that but you surely can have more details easily on the net.
  8. Indeed Vector softwares are better to design logos. But still, if you do it in very good resolution in Photoshop, it can be good. But I still think Illustrator would be better for that. I'm using Photoshop for quite a long time now and I mostly use it for photomanipulation. It's actually why I'm looking for a free web hosting service, to build up my portfolio online because I only have a deviantart account till now. I think that it's better to have your own site when you're doing that. Maybe I'll try it someday... Thanks for the link anyway.
  9. I love adsense ! Indeed they notice everything you do with this program but it's really interesting to be able to customize the ads with colors, width, height. And there ads are related to your site, which is better for everyone. Something to always have on a site.
  10. I'll put myself in the link exchange as soon as I get my account. And i'll surely link trap back directly as wellbecause I love the concept of trap and I think you deserve the back link.
  11. Thanks a lot for this information ! I was completely worried about knowing if trap had it enabled or not... Good thing to know . Trap is more and more interesting to me and I'm sure I won't be able to look at any other free web hosting for a long time. I'm grateful I found trap !
  12. Hi everyone. I just searched if someone has posted a review about hostsnake but it seems that no one did. So here I am. Before getting here (and even before knowing about trap), I was hosted by hostsnake.com. The features for the free hosting are : - no ads (interesting) - 5gb of space and 10gb bandwidth - PHP and 5 mySQL databases - one ftp account - your subdomain will look like http://username.hostsnake.com/ Anyway, I removed my site from there because .htaccess files aren't allowed. Moreover, the function mail was disabled, so your site can't send mails. I won't mark this free web hosting because I don't want to judge it, but anyway I think it's quite a good one in the wide ocean of free web hosting...
  13. I agree. If you can't do anything for the design part and for the coding as well, you can try CMS. You'll always have to go into the code for some little things. Really, give a try to CMS like Joomla or Wordpress (for more bloggy look and features). And then you will find lots of themes and templates that will be easier to modify. But, about the marketing thing, it's a common thing to me. I've never been in those kinds of requests since I do everything myself and for free ! No, truly, try to ask people around you to help you with your site. I try never to rely on "commercial" things. I've been helping a local american football club to develop their site, get it search engine friendly and such. But now, they have it running without my help and they are using Joomla. Maybe it's my own point of view but when I'm designing or developping a website for someone, I always try to make it "admin friendly" for those who will have the hard task to keep it going... by the way, sorry for my long rambling, but I think that you should really try using a CMS for a start. Good luck to you.
  14. You know sites like that exist ?! I've seen some but exactly as you said, I didn't get back there...
  15. I have already seen these changes in settings a lot of times on the net. And also in this forum... Everyone seems to want us to change that. Anyway, I dodn't know about the fasterfox plugin but I won't try it since my connection speed is already good to me.
  16. I agree with the previous post. I'm myself more on the design side because it's more easy for me (already using Photoshop and such for other type of art). Anyway, I try to go into the coding side because it's the most important thing. You can customize your own site and understand what you are doing. Indeed, I use CMS like joomla or even wordpress when I'm lazy and don't want to go that much into coding but sometimes you haven't the choice. But it's easing your pain too using CMS. Anyway, I don't think it'll give you the best overall-looking site... That's my point of view anyway.I'm also using Flash to create some sites but it also needs coding skills even if it's not the same language. Some will look down on me about using Flash since it's quite a polemical issue about doing websites in a whole flash way.So, finally, you have to go on each side, both coding and design, but coding will be the most painful part (the one I'm currently experiencing right now...). But it'll be really useful for you to do so.
  17. You can now create one for France. Indeed, I'm, as it seems..., the only French over here...
  18. I'm French and I'm studying English but also spanish. I don't really like german so I wouldn't go for it... But chinese is more and more studied in France. I love listening to a friend who has been learning chinese for a long time. It's kind of funny to listen to chinese but it's also enchanting. I know that sounds dumb but it's such "weird" sounds that it becomes enchanting... Give it a try
  19. Hi everyone,I'm from France and I'm searching for a good free web hosting to implement my personal portfolio. I just joined Xisto and I think the concept is really great indeed . I hope I'll be able to soon have my own website here.
  20. I use FileZilla like a lot of people here. But actually, I would maybe try other ones. But still I'm quite used to FileZilla.
  21. I can't access the first site... By the way, my site isn't up yet. I'll post it when it'll be done. For informations, it will be in fact my personal portfolio of digital art. I have an account on Deviantart for the moment, but I prefer having my own website . If you want to see what my artwork is about, you can go see my page : http://lunacatstudio.deviantart.com/?rnrd=94690
  22. I must say that I'm quite sceptical about this service. I haven't tested it but I think I won't. As some other people said it, I would rather buy my own domain because you have to renew it, so it's like doing the same thing over and over again. Anyway, for the time being, I don't bother about having a subdomain like here in Xisto... Maybe once I'll go to paid services and buy a domain but for now I don't feel the need. But if people succeed in getting those free domains, I congratulate them .
  23. I didn't know this website since I'm really interested in this type of sites. After reading your posts, it really seems bad for the community indeed.
  24. Free web hostings are really vicious sometimes (or often works as well...). I assume that I'm looking for a free hosting and I was till now searching for a "no ads" one. Actually, I found some but as I need some space (I want to upload my artwork on my site), I was even more selective. Actually, I've found a decent free web hosting, unknown to me (compared to 110mb.com). There was like 20G space and 300 gb BW (I'm not sure they would allow a site if it went that greedy on BW...). No ads and such, with PHP and MySQL. Sounds great... But then, as someone pointed out for freehostia (where I got through too), you couldn't send mail since the mail function was disabled... Great ! Plus, you couldn't upload .htaccess files, which sounds really awful to me. But when you asked the reason in the support forum, they just answered that it was for "security reasons"...and that the hosting was already well secured. Not convincing at all to me.Finally, I decided to give up on this web hosting, even if it wasn't vicious as the ones that have been described before my post ! I won't give the name because I don't think it's such a bad one. But it's quite a good one when you don't need that many features...Anyway, I came across Xisto totally randomly and it seems really interesting . I hope my needs will be fulfilled .
  25. Actually, I didn't know about Google Accelerator. It seems interesting, as you said for slow connections. But if they are some problems about pages like Xisto, I think that I prefer being slow and seeing the right page. anyway, thanks for the review .
