well, as i said in some past posts: my stepdad is a NON-GRATA person for me... makes me lose my nerves. he cheated my mum, and she forgave him. he cameback home and recently he was drunk and saying that he suffers cuz the other woman left him... that makes me mad.... how can he be that stupid? well, i've been talking to my mum about it and she's thinking of kicking him out... thats something that i'd love that happens for my mum's good

Well, I find Pitchforkmedia.com a great way to get to know when an album is gonna be a HIT or NOT. I actually find it very useful most of the times: they rate every indie album from 0 to 10, but sometimes I think they're kind of unfair.

 

For example, anybody knows Low's last album The Great Destroyer? well, personally, I considere this album a master piece, eventhough is probably not the best nor even close to the best ever done by Low. The situation here is that lots of magazines, netzines, and inclusive record labels base their own judges on this site's reviews. I find this way uncool in someways. what do you think about it?

 

BTW, I'd like to mention that Arcade Fire's Funeral is probably the best indie album in 2005 (well, it was released in 2004 in north-america, not the same in Mexico and UK), and this is something I can clearly agree with pitchforkmedia.

You know? i drink too, but i guess i do it just for fun, just a few drinks to get a bit dizzy and then that's it, i never turn into a very agressive person, i guess it doesnt match with the idea of being a man. well, i am thinking about telling my mom about these new comments by him...

well, he and i have never got along that well. anyways, i always tried to get a bit closer no matter i knew he was not that nice person my mom used to think.

 

the story is the following:

 

my stepdad used to drink like hell a few years ago, and whenever he did get drunk, he turn into a very agressive and arrogant person, nasty... but that was not the worst part: the damage he caused on us, my stepsisters, my mom and i, was not easy to repair. years later he quit drinking for a big big while. what i never believed was that he was really happy with that situation. one day he came home to talk to my mom and told her that he wanted to leave, he wouldn't give any reasons, just left. my mom got seriously depressed, after that i had the chance to see him a couple of times, then i knew the entire truth about his (for me at least) irrelevant leaving from home: he was dating a 10 years younger woman and she also was supposed to have a baby of his... i was shocked, it really set me up... but i refused to tell my mom the truth... until the day (a year after almost) he cameback home. i needed to let her know the real situation. and i did, it seemed not to be something that my mom really cared at the moment. and she accepted my stepdad's apologizes and he newly was at home again

 

well, now, he started drinking (not as much as in the past) and the other day really made me mad when he came to me to talk about how bad he feels about the younger woman. he says he thinks she only used him.....

 

wow! i thoght those things never happen in real life, but arrrggghhhhhh! i am still mad at him.... he's an idiot... what do you guys think?

on #1: spectre did answer that one already, so just to make it "official" on your part, ask for a written authorization from those bands. Xisto admins may ask for it too if there is a legal question on those mp3s you have on your hosting space.

 

on #2: if you're providing downloads (mp3s, etc.):

it eats ups system resources, and if downloads get too popular, it can slow down the servers. (note: i do have a downloads section in my site also, but it is just a bunch of links pointing to where i host them on a limited time basis [rapidshare.de])

Well, I have to say No Worries The bands in my site are currently not so popular, and since we demand an user registration in order to get access to the mp3s, lots of people just leave the site without the songs So, the bandwidth because of Downloads is not that much.

 

And as a response of these specific thread:

Well, There are two things I'd like to mention/ask:

 

1) (Just in case) You might have noticed that I've uploaded a few mp3 files for free download in my site. This is why:

 

The bands which are being promoted in my site ( Sonorama.NET ) are totally UNSIGNED bands, which means that -first of all- there are no rules broken unless they don't agree with the public use of their mp3s <--THIS WON'T HAPPEN-- Why? because I got the authorisation from all of them (the bands) to use the files. This is FREE PROMOTION for their music; and afterall, if they get signed in a major label, they will possibly prevent us from using their mp3s in the site.

 

I also had already asked you guys about this situation in THIS TOPIC

 

2) I'd like to see if it is possible (well i've just read your rules and found it very possible) to get some x-tras if I put some Trap 17's AD on my site. And BTW, I'd love to know where I can get some TRAP 17 Banners (468x60px if possible).

Well, the access URL to your CPanel must be something like this:

http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Anyway, if I'm wrong, you should look at the mail Xisto sent to you with the directions for your site.

And if you mean the access of your content in your new PHP NUKE Installation, they should automatically redirect you to your control panel. So make sure you bookmark all those important URLs in case u forget them.

Finally: YES, you NEED a database, but I will let you know something: The Database is automatically created during the PHP-NUKE Installation process, so believe me, it is just a piece of cake. you let your CPanel work and you'll see.

OK, it is quite simple to install PHP nuke. There are two ways to get to the auto-installation of PHP NUKE in your CPanel:

 

-Thru Fantastico feature

-or thru Addon Scripts feature

 

Fantastico link is currently having some kind of propblems to get accessed, so try with addon scripts. There you will find PHP NUKE, go & install it!!, as simple as it seems. It will require at least 17 MB of your diskspace, so make sure you have enough space. If you want some different colors and a totally different appareance of your content site, you should try get some extra templates or manually modify some of them (read first the Terms and Conditions for it).

 

You also must want to change the main banner of the site, I mean, you don't want your site saying on the top: "PHP NUKE" or the name of the template, definitely, NO. OK, this is quite simple too:

 

Look at this tip:

 

Manually look for the source of that image (right click of the mouse and "view image"). once you find it look at its properties, go and edit the image you want to be there. NOTE: it MUST be the same dimensions (pixels size). Then You use your FTP client to replace the image: MUST be named the same as the one you'll replace and the same EXTENSION, e.g. JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP, etc....

 

And finally edit with the main content manager the CONTENT of your site.

 

I hope tyhis is useful for you.

 

p.s. I made a site with Mambo, which is quite similar to PHP NUKE, but more simple. The only problem I had was that I had to change the whole language templates to Spanish. hehehe, but anyway, i had fun doiung it

That is pretty funny. I remember when I was a kid: it was one of my highest priorities to watch the TV transmissions for wrestling every sunday. I actually knew it was all faked but still loved it in that time.

 

I guess time runs fast, I can't remember when was the last time I went to see live wrestling nor at least the last time I sat infront the TV to watch my favs wrestlers faking the fights of the century.

Is MySQL currently working proper? well, I don't think supernknown meant that Radiohead was signed on an indie label. It would be actually almost impossible for me to know these bands if that were the case. Anyway, the term indie mostly apply in those bands with a particular sound. for example, you said something about modest mouse, they were originally signed by an almost unknown label K-Punk, after a few years they met built to spill and then they attracted the band to sub-pop's division Up which is merely distributed by Warner Bros. which happens not to be a so indie label.

 

anyways, i think the indie term has to do with the sound more than with a simple description as independent.

(After almost one year) I just finished reading this masterpiece written by Salman Rushdie. I couldn't believe that someone who is damned in some countries and fundamentalist religious people could have ever written such a beautiful book. First of all the story seems pretty simple, but it turns a bit mess when he describes each character's life and how they got the required conection to develope this marvellous story. The scenary goes from Mexico to England, from England to India, from India to America, and viceversa.The soryteller has this beautiful quality of transporting us from place to place with a harmless vocabulary that makes you feel at home again and again.This is definitely a book you should read.
