  1. I read the Redwall books a while ago, the language isn't that hard, it?s easier than Shakespeare?s and he wrote in modern English. Was English the first language of your English teacher? We are sponsoring a child from the Philippines, and her English Teacher wasn't nearly as fluent as a native speaker and might have had trouble with the book. Anyway, The Thief by Megan Turner was an awesome book. It was written for children, but had awesome dialogue, character development; plot and didn?t fall into many of the children's book clich?s. I thoroughly recommend it to people of all ages, along with The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. Both books were funny and stand alone, though there are other books written about them in the same setting if you?re interested. My favorite book though was Howl's moving Castle, by Dianna Wayne Jones. The book was hilarious, had an interesting plot and kept my attention riveted from beginning to end. I would recommend all of these books to anyone who loves fantasy and or the middle ages.
  2. The last book I read was Inkheart, by Cornella Funke. It was an interesting book. The beginning seamed rather similar to A Wrinkle in Time, but it quickly became its own book. The whole idea of being able read people out of books is intriguing. I liked how each book was like a doorway to another world, and by reading you just skimmed the surface. The depth of the characters was nice, and it felt as if you the reader actually got to know them. Some were noticeably pettier than others but it?s that way in the real world unfortunately. I would recommend this book to all who liked modern fantasy, and children's books. (Like Harry Potter, Wrinkle in time, or The Chronicles of Narnia)
  3. My favorite classic book? I loved Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe, it?s the only romance book I've ever really liked. I liked the descriptions, the plot complications and pretty much everything else about it. I also enjoyed both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, they were the first Fantasy books I ever re-read. Most of Mark Twain's works were interesting, and rather funny, though I remember being somewhat disappointed by the Prince and the Pauper when I first read it in 6th grade or so after seeing the Disney movie, which I had really liked. If I had to choose just one, I think it would be Ivanhoe. The portrayal of Robin Hood, Prince John and all the others was so different form what I first learned growing up that it was fascinating. The wording and the incorporation of Saxon/Norman tension were skillfully done. It was by far one of the best Books Ever and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it.
  4. I loved the Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien. It was so funny, you have to love Bilbo. I remember reading it for the first time in Fifth grade. My Mom was reading my siblings and I Lord of the Rings at the same time. The parallels between the journeys of Bilbo is so similar to that of Frodo, it's amazing. The characterization, and descriptions Tolkien uses are breathtaking, and the plot is so well thought out. We have charts of the lineages of various secondary characters in the back of one of copies. The details are astounding. It takes serious commitment, determination and a streak of perfectionism to manage that. Tolkien was a genius, no wonder so many modern authors try to emulate his style. He researched quite a bit to come up with his works, though much of it was a compilation of previous mythology and his study of history, it never ceases to amaze me how well he put the entire work together. Tolkien is by far one of the best authors of the fantasy genre.
  5. I read several of the Forgotten Realm Books. At first they were really great, I liked the characters and everything, but after the third book or so they seemed rather repatative. Each book followed the same basic plot, the characterization was sketchy at times, and the descriptions got repatative. R. A. Salvatore used interesting metaphores and adjectives, but after a while they get tedious. I can no longer manage to sit through an entire book. I would recomend reading a few, anymore than that is too much. On the other hand the Drow were very intereseting characters in general, and I liked the way they were described. Most secondary characters were facinating. It was only the main characters that got really annoying. All in all I'd give the Forgotten Realms books about a five out of ten.
  6. I think being a game tester could be interesting at fist, but after aweek or so it would get very dull. As it is most games are extremley repetative. You either race, complete puzzels, kill things or do any combination of the three. Designing the games would be far more intersting. You avtually get a say in what happens, how it looks and all that.
  7. My top five. Wow. There are so many books out there. 1. My favorite would have to be Ivanhoe, it was one of the best books ever. I liked how it added on to the classic Robin Hood story.2. The Thief. It was kids book, but a really good one. It was one of the few truly interesting books told in the first person3. The Hobbit. I liked Lord of the Rings, but the Hobbit was far more intersting, light-hearted and witty. I loved how Bilbo wound up saving the day despite bing a bit reluctant. The book was relatively short, concise and had a suspensfull and amusing plot.4. The 1st-3rd Harry Potter books. They were the best of the serries. I disliked all the movies though. They messed up the way I imagined everything. Oh well, many movies seem to do that. 5. My fifth book would have ot be the Mists of Avalon. I've always loved the Authorian sagas and this versin was astounding, it told the tale from a completly different perspective. So yea. that would be my top five. I'm sure htere are others, but I can't think of any right now. The Illiad was pretty good to though, but it got kind of long. I gues that's it then.
