  9. why did .com become the norm?com is usa yeah? - so why arnt all usa sites http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ?and all uk ones http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ - why the co? and why the com?random!
  10. Thats very easy to think, but think a little bit more. Selling info on people is big business these days, and nowhere is it bigger than on the internet. The thing is that today those companies have to go thru consirable troubleto collect much of the info. That at least some consolation. If Google pulls this off they will have everything under one roof - all the emails you ever send and receive, everything about your surfing-habits, everything about your website and assuming they will offer online storage in the future - they will also know what you use your pc for, which programs you use, how often you update them................Within not so many years they will know everything about almost anybody who have ever been online............I find that most unsettling... shutter!

  18. Well DivX is commercial driven, you can get better compression if you buy it from them, otherwise you miss out on the 30% more compression you could get from it, the compression rate is supposedly 64:1. If you're looking for a good video codec for compression your videos, try Xvid (reverse spelling of Divx) from https://www.xvid.com/ it's an open source video codec that is MPEG-4 compliant. Although you would have to do your own tests to figure out which has better compression, superior quality and is fast. I don't know about Quicktime's MOV format, nor really use this format. I'd be interested to know about the Advanced Audio Codec, and whether this will replace MP3 format, it seems like it could if enough people give up the decade old format. An open source audio codec is Ogg Vorbis found at http://www.vorbis.com/ another codec you should check out for compression audio files. Cheers, MC
