  1. I peresonally believe that censorship resebmles cancer. Many books have been censored in the course of time, and there are many more being censored every day, all over the world.Censored books should at least be published on the net.Or maybe not? What do you think?
  2. I once saw a TV-show claiming that pavements in Singapore are washed with soap every night. I have always found that hard to believe.
  3. Stereotypes are universal pain. They follow each and every nation. The problem of the language that you mentioned is something I have heared many times before. In some countries it is, perhaps, exaggerated. But the thing is, that, many people presume that English is readilly acceptable in each and every spot of this planet because it is, if I may say, today's esperanto (in the sense of universality of use). This is just not the case. What strikes speakers of English is that often they have to confront such reactions like you in france. This is the result of its universality, of course. I, for example, am much more used to hearing no or being looked at strangely when I try to address someone in my mother tongue. So, if and when I go to the States and I say "Govorite li sprski?", "Sprechen Sie deutsch?" or "Parla italiano?" I won't be struck by a sudden laughter. Perhaps, if you manage to put things into this perspective, it won't bother you too much. This being said, there are countries where many people tend to be even rude when you address them in a language other than their own, which is, in my opinion, pure lack of culture. Saying: "Sorry, I can't understand what you are trying to say" is one thing. "Scheiss Ausl?nder!" is something completely different. You have started an interesting thread.

  5. Well, IMAP does not interfere with your webmail. All messages are actually stored on the server, so that whenever you want to access them from Am*dam, NY or Mars you can. It just adds one additional feature to it, and that is to use your client when you are back at home or at work. Email clients are nice and they really speed up things, at least for me. So, it is not like pop3 in that respect. You get to administer your folders, move your messages from one folder to another, all that with the client, and all that acutally on the server itself.

  8. I think that The Gimp suits most of the needs for web design. In addition to this, it is free and runs on several platforms.

    Gmail

What I find really ugly is the fact that there is zero privacy. They will just go on and on through your emails. The mere fact that they offer i giga of free email does not substitute for it, especially now when more providers are gradually expanding email quota. In adition to this, I would like to have 1 giga of email _but_ with IMAP access.
  10. If you run linux or bsd which are both free, you will find free compilers included. I just wanted to address the question raised here about free compilers.

  20. You can only consider MacOS if you have a Mac. It does not run on PCs. When it comes to PCs, I stick to Linux or BSD systems. There are many flavours to chose from:- http://www.slackware.com/ https://www.suse.com/ http://www.debian.org/ http://www.openbsd.org/ https://www.freebsd.org/ http://www.netbsd.org/ you don't use some particular app like AutoCAD on daily bases, it is really better. It is safer, more stable, and quite fast even on old computers.

I use a perticular linux distro called slackware. I would trongly recommend it to anyone. For those who want to deploy servers I could suggest OpenBSD.
