  1. Portugal: 6/10Positive: weather, beaches, friendly people (used to be more friendly), we eat boiled snails (disgusts every tourist, eheheh), you really can do what you want if you don't mess with others (i think THIS is called freedom); oh, yeah... we don't have Bush! :)Negative: politics, politicians (read CORRUPTION), taxes money just disappears, hospitals are being shut down (they want you to get medical insurance, but still pay more and more taxes), education is the worst i've ever seen; oh, yeah... we have Socrates!
  2. i would like to retort with another question: is a straight line a particular case of a circle?imagine what happens if you take a circle and you start increasing its radius towards infinity... the curvature of the circle will start to flatten until, in the end, it's nothing but a straight line
  3. the strap is called the leash. and you're right, jlhaslip: it is very useful. surely you don't want to lose your board when you are a hundred meters from the shore. could (and will eventually) happen, sooner or later, because the material has a lifetime, like everything else in this life. that's why you pay more or less for it. i have a Dakine and, until this day, i'm happy with it. there are people who break their leashes once a year or so. anyway, many years ago, people didn't use it because it simply hadn't been invented. if you're interested in surf, i recommend a great movie about its history and spirit: Riding Giants. hey, SNiped! UK is so close and you've got low cost flights now. why don't you plan some sort of a surf trip to Portugal? there's Algarve and Alentejo (the Costa Vicentina is beautiful - my favourite). and the water's fine. on the summer a 3/2 wetsuit is more than enough, problably too hot for you
  4. Hi!I would appreciate some enlightenment about this topic. I have a very rough idea about what a web service is but my experience is null. I supose it works something like this:- the web service (a program written in any(?) language) is waiting/listening for a request;- a request is made (by a client) via a browser (for example);- the web service treats the request and, when he's done, sends back the answer.Am I close...? Thanks!
  5. Hi! I live in Lisboa (Lisbon, if you prefer) and I started surfing last summer. From the first time I tried that I got immediately addicted. I surf mostly on Carcavelos beach, between Lisboa and Cascais. If you want to "take a look" just follow these links: Carcavelos (on a huge day) Carcavelos (perfect day) Carcavelos (all pics) The only problem is that it's too crowded. But hey... there are always more waves than surfers Good waves for everyone!
  6. i supose everyone as seen images of the Mandelbrot Set. it is given by the quadratic recurrence equationz(n+1) = z(n)^2 + C.if this interests you, i suggest you take a look at Wolfram Mathworld.
  7. Just to send my greetings from Lisboa! This is a great site. Very helpful, with loads of info and good willing. Feels like I'm back to school See you around!Eduardo
  8. wow! i know what i'm gonna do. bump my head against the wall. then i just have to wait for the healing
  9. i suggest the ubuntu distribution. its totally free and it does the partitioning easily.
  10. thanks, jlhaslip.there are lots of tutorials, here, so i've got tons of reading to do. only now i noticed there's a "Introduce yourself" thanks to your signature. i'll go there.(any faith no more fans in here...? )

    Ipconfig

try going to "c:\windows\system32" and execute ipconfig from there (this should be its location).
  12. alright, ghostrider!perhaps one day i'll prepare a tutorial on something else, too :)for now i'm just trying to gather as much information i can and organizing my ideas on how the whole thing works. thanks again!
  13. hi there!this might look like a "unanswerable" question but... here it goes:i'm working in a financial institution for about 7 years, now. i'm a programmer and i use mostly Cobol and some RPG (AS/400 platform, today known as iSeries or i5). i also have some SQL knowledge.what i would like to know is: having concepts of this languages, how hard is it to jump to the "net languages"? i'm pretty sure there are loads of differences, like, for instance, Java is a object oriented language. this is rather confusing for me because it "destroys" the "well behaved" top-down style that i've got so used to my intention is, firstly, to gain some experience here, developing a site and then improve my wife's site (which is pretty awful, by the way).and if, some (very distant) day, i turn myself into a guru, i hope i can live from developing sites and leave the bank (pretty boring) and get myself time to SURF! thanks in advance!
  14. this is so great! i'm thinking about creating my own site with just one line. it will simply contain my account number and saying "Please, transfer the quantity you want to this account. Thank you very much!"
