The Groom Lake Base is this top-secret military base located 90 miles north of Las Vegas (which is in Nevada). It's in grid number 51 of the Nevada Test Site, so it's called Area 51. The United States Air Force Flight Test Center controls the base. It's best known for testing exotic aircraft and weapons. The base was created in 1954 as a place to test the secret U-2 spyplane that was used to fly missions over the Soviet Union. Then it started to house the SR-71, A-12 and D-21 drone. The F-117A was tested there, also. In the 1980's the base increased in size, along with the runway (which increased to the present 6 miles). Then, mysterious lights began to appear, and armed guards known as the cammo dudes started patrolling the border. The government closed many viewpoints from which the Area 51 base could be seen. In 1989, a "physicist" named Bob Lazar claimed that he worked at a base south of Area 51 and also claimed that Area 51 was testing extremely advanced aircraft and UFO's they got by trading with the aliens. Since then, Area 51 has been thought to be the test center of captured UFOs because of the lights in the night sky.

Think you can get away with not paying income taxes? The Internal Revenue Service said you better think again. In a 25-page legal summary, the IRS attempts to debunk many of the most common legal arguments against paying taxes or filing returns. Some of these schemes are marketed by promoters for a fee, but taxpayers who sign up could be left holding the bag. "Some enrich themselves at the expense of their followers, who find they have no legal ground to stand on when they follow this bad advice," an IRS statement said. Federal courts can impose a penalty of up to $25,000 if a taxpayer's argument is deemed frivolous. The summary, "The Truth About Frivolous Tax Arguments," is available on the IRS Web site. Don Imus Being Fired What is your opinion on the matter.
pkjm17 replied to seargentpepper7's topic in General Discussion
It?s a bit easy to support the firing of Imus simply because you loathe what he says. But you have to ask yourself, is this the standard our society should adopt? Should every talk show host or pundit be fired if they utter something bigoted? And who gets to decide what is and is not bigoted? Should there be a list of words or should we just leave it up to guys like Al Sharpton to make the call? And should we draw up a sliding scale of punishments as related to the offense? ?Nappy haired ho?s? gets you fired. Calling a presidential candidate ?gay? loses you a few syndication gigs but otherwise allows you to continue earning money?I?m not saying Imus wasn?t bigoted. He was. I?m just very concerned by how many people can?t separate their disgust at what Imus said from his right to say it without overly severe punishment. I prefer a more robust practice of free speech. But I?ve always been way to the traditional left on these kinds of matters -

Know Anyone Who Has To Do Something Each Day?
pkjm17 replied to Dagoth Nereviar's topic in General Discussion
Project 365: How to Take a Photo a Day and See Your Life in a Whole New Way Taking a photo a day is a big undertaking with big payoffs. Here are just a few reasons why you should consider doing it: Imagine being able to look back at any day of your year and recall what you did, who you met, what you learned… (Often we find it hard to remember what we did just yesterday or even last night, let alone a whole year ago!) Your year-long photo album will be an amazing way to document your travels and accomplishments, your haircuts and relationships. Time moves surprisingly fast. Taking a photo a day will make you a better photographer. Using your camera every day will help you learn its limits. You will get better at composing your shots, you’ll start to care about lighting, and you’ll become more creative with your photography when you’re forced to come up with something new every single day. It is good that they removed Froogle from their homepage. Keeping a product for an umlimited beta is insane. Google has been abusing the concept of beta just too much. I feel they are losing confidence in themselves. In this matter I have to say that Microsoft is doikng quite well. They are entering the market with a beta but quickly are getting out of beta and making the service live unlike Froogle which has been under beta for the past 5 years.5 years feel almost a generation in this fast Internet age
