    Yeah, definitely. The phpMyAdmin interface makes it really easy to create a database table. All you have to do is click a few buttons and follow the directions on the screen (about making an index row and then inputing all the values). The browse feature is really useful. I also like how they generate PHP code for each row of info that you add to the database so that you can learn a bit of PHP through mySQL. Text files are horribly inefficient. I used them to run a test database, and it took me a while to figure out how to access the correct pieces of information stored in the text file. I often ran into the problem of writing over my entire text file with the new text because I had chosen the wrong read/write variable. Although I do have a question about mySQL--how do I encrypt the data with mySQL? I've heard of md5 encryption...but how is that supposed to be applied to mySQL? Does phpMyAdmin offer some kind of feature that you can turn on to enable md5 (or any other kind, for that matter) encryption? Or do I have to write some other PHP file to make this work?

    Hum. I think that's because it's trying to say that the most people who searched the term "health" came from St. Albans, United Kingdom, hence the label "Top Cities" above it. On the other hand though, Google should probably have a little explanation guide next to it so that people will have an easier time understanding what's going on instead of just spewing forth a bunch of graphs. Otherwise they'd just lose users. I like the sort by country feature though...but I think it'd be nicer if they let us sort by language as well; since there are going to be some sites that want to target a language rather than just a country. Like I would want to compare most of the English speaking countries for my website (as that is the primary language), but I can't do that with Google Trends. Yeah, that's true. They need a lot more data in there. I guess they only have the most data for the countries that have the largest amount of people searching for a certain term. I guess it might be useful to some people for business (it depends on what sector you work in and how popular your job is, as if it's really trendy, it'll probably have more data at Google Trends...:3).

    Yeah, I agree. Yes, they are the rules, and just because he is famous doesn't mean he should get special treatment. On the other hand though, I don't think he actually thought of his signature as flammatory. It probably just ended up being there by whim, so making such a big (and slightly rude) formal statement out of it is uncalled for. Besides, the real point here isn't the amount of past contributions. It's the fact that defining flames are kind of vague. So just when does an opinion cross the line into a flame? What if I said, "I'm 100% anti-abortion"? Wouldn't that be the same as saying, "I'm 100% pro-life"? So how does the addition of one word (in this case anti-) make the entire phrase a flame? Both cases are supporting a very strong opinion (or flame if you will), yet it seems implied the second one sounds nicer. Against and for are the same thing, just worded a bit differently. The underlying feeling is the same. On the other hand though, he should've agreed to a set of rules before registering. And if that set of rules said that "anti" phrases were not allowed (and not just the vague term of flames, which can kind of be argued), then in that case he shouldn't have broken the rules.

    Around 80 wpm. But it also depends on the keyboard. On some keyboards I can go faster, but on some I go way slower. The keyboards I have at school are horribly sticky, so it's impossible to type very fast. The fastest keyboard would have to be my laptop keyboard. My mom, because apparently she's trying to learn to type faster so she can get her qualifications for certain jobs. Well, mostly reports and other stuff for school (that was back before I started using the computer for more leisurely stuff). Then there was this typing program at our school (third grade)...but I don't think that actually helped much, since most of my improvement came a bit later, after I started with HTML and Java. And of course, chatting does help me learn to type faster, but it doesn't help me improve my accuracy. That just gets worse.

    Perhaps some link exchanging with related sites would improve the number of willing and happy visitors. I do a bit of link trading/exchanging, but I try to limit my numbers to relevant sites and not just some random site that asks me for a link exchance. I once registered at this site made entirely for link exchanges hoping to get some good related affiliates, but then I ended up turning down most of the requests.

    Wow I just registered and I normally don't play text games...but this is way too fun for me to pass over. I just started, but it sure is addicting.....I agree with miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's earlier statement--it does serve to quench our inner desires for the dark side... Can't wait to I start gettting the hang of things more....and won't have to depend on the manuals as much. EDIT: I just noticed that when you click on "rules" in the forum, it comes up with a "file not found". Also, in some instnaces when you use "got", it would be better to use "have". I also do think that the waiting time is rather slow, but it goes both ways: Slow waiting time = more time to study/do other things Fast waiting time = one can finish the game in a more compacted manner (time-wise), so often there is more satisfacation to it Each has its advantages, but I think to attract more loyal visitors, it's probably better to quicken the waiting time, as they might not be as used to the system and they might not be as interested in multi-tasking as some of the more established users will be.

    I really like your Hell Butterflies and the Xtreme Fort Builder. Although I was also wondering--I don't really get the point of the Fort Builder. Am I supposed to build a good enough fort so that the little guy can be protected behind the fort? Or is it just like who can build the best fort? Hell Butterflies had a really nice abstractish feeling to it. They feel like little bugs bringing about dark omens. And btw, are those little dots next to the butterflies supposed to be fireflies? Or are they just there for the sake of decoration? And I find the dragging-your-mouse-over-the-dots thing to be quite amusing. Reminds me very much of magnets. And the Sonic game. I enjoyed that. Heh. Our school administrators were finally convinced to install Firefox.

    I like Jokerman and Chiller (for their style), but when it comes down to websites, I wouldn't use either. (I used Jokerman and Chiller as the fonts of choice in a bit of Firefox tweaking and I found reading them to be such a pain) For websites, probably some kind of Sans-serif font like Arial or Verdana would do. I used to like Times New Roman, but I just don't think it fits well on most websites. Agreed! But I guess it's becoming their trademark, so changing the font might be a bit...weird for people who are stuck with tradition? :3

    Well, the best thing about YouTube is that it has a lot of stuff. So the other ones that I know might not cater to your needs at all...The site I thought was better in terms of quality (but not quantity): http://www.animemusicvideos.org/home/home.php But obviously not everyone cares for AMVs, so it doesn't help most of the people on YouTube. Of course there are other ones, but I wouldn't say they're better.     I didn't get any pop ups. I'm also browsing with Firefox 1.5.0.4, but I have Firefox's adblock extension, so maybe that's the reason why. On the other hand though, it is really really slow. Perhaps a faster load time would attract visitors more....otherwise they simply runaway.

    Well, the thing is that Google is at least attempting to battle all the hacks used against them. People are going to complain either way. I hear these people complaining about their sites moving up and down constantly. Well, that's how it is in the real world. You can't expect one site to always have the monopoly and be at the top of the list; likewise, what if a new site is built that is far better than this one site and deserves to be in the top position? By doing this at least Google is going to ensure that people will update and make their sites better. I do think that link exchange/trading is a good thing, but many sites do go overboard. Recently I visited a site that sold clothes and on their links page they had about 50 different links all to highly irrevelant sites. Just how is that supposed to help a person who came to the site hoping to find links to more clothing sites? They can complain all they want, but...it's rather futile. It all comes down to this: If your information isn't good, you don't deserve to be listed that high up. And if you do get listed that high up, you don't deserve any loyal visitors.

    Agreed. I seriously disliked Geocities. The ads...they just never disappear. Angelfire and Tripod are just as bad though. Back to Freewebs. I used it at one point because several friends recommened it as "good". At first everything was going fine, until I discovered they had a page limit (20 files), so I had to find a different webhost. This is probably the saddest aspect of their hosting--I mean, only 20 files? That's near nothing. As for the ads aspect of their hosting, I think Freewebs implements the whole "you start out with a no ads website, and then after two or so weeks if you don't pay for the hosting, you get ads". The interesting thing is though, that I didn't have ads at all on my Freewebs page. (I only have one page there, and it redirects to a different host because of the file limit). I wonder if they put ads only on the well-known pages (as mine isn't visited all that much anymore). I also didn't like the uploader in Freewebs either--you could only upload one file at a time (although I believe at one point they offered multiple file uploading, but then it was gone and they wanted to charge a fee) and the uploader tended to crash a lot. (the white page of doom) I also didn't enjoy the fact that you had to put up a link back to Freewebs--though that is much better than the ads. Yeah, I like this idea. Especially since I find the forums pretty interesting. And people need to learn how to post better at forums...:3

    I thought the Google translation service was pretty good for languages similar to English (French, German, etc), but it didn't work so well for Chinese and Japanese. I tried with Chinese and there were lots of problems with the grammar and word usage. As for the French one, I use that often on French projects. It does have a number of errors (at least according to my French teacher), but it's a lot better than me writing it. Well, I wouldn't say Google is the best in terms of everything (like what about their SpreadSheets?), but their translation services are quite nice. And I suppose one day when Google dominates the market the way Microsoft holds its iron grip, we'll all hate it just as much as we hate Microsoft.

    IMHO, in terms of quality, YouTube isn't the greatest, but considering that it's all free and fast, it still is quite nice. I do enjoy the fact that you don't have to download anything (no taking chances here, especially with illegal goods). There's also a nice variety of videos offered, although that probably rose along with it's popularity.
