  1. That's the problem...how should I define it? I don't think it would be fair to define it as "all lawyers" as that gives me an unfair advantage, which the teacher will see through and penalize me for. I know I'm doing negative side so I shouldn't need to do definition, but the guy I'm paired with is unlikely to do a definition, as he hasn't done much debating before. If he doesn't put up a definition, should I put one up, as the negative side?
  2. Basically, the topic is that lawyers really only work for themselves and not their clients.I know this place is for hosting actual debates, but I'm actually doing this topic for a school debating team tryout, so I'd really appreciate useful points from you guys. I'm doing the negative side. On a side note, the tryout system at our school puts us in pairs, where we debate the person we get paired up with. Because the guy I'm paired up with isn't too good, would that put me at a disadvantage, as I really don't get a chance to prove I'm good, because I have an easy task? Thanks for your help.
  3. I personally don't mind needing to study in my own time. I think about month should be enough...and we have about 6 months to do our game project. From your responses, I think Visual C++ would be a good option for me, as I believe it has DirectX library integration, and uses the C++ syntax, which will help me if I need to learn Java in the future. I know it's not as popular as Java, but I did a bit more research into Java and I found that one of the main reasons it's so popular is because of its high portability, which I don't need.
  4. I am doing chemistry right now. Our teacher, for homework, asked us to find the difference between a molecule and a lattice. But a Google search reveals nothing, so I came here instead. Can someone explain the difference between a molecule and a lattice, preferably not with too much jargon, as we are barely beginning the course right now? Thanks.
  5. Hi, I'm doing a course called Software Design and Development for HSC in a high school in Australia. HSC is basically the courses you do that you get assessed on for University entrance. I haven't really done programming before, although I've seen source code and can decipher it and make small changes. I am also quite good with the general use of computers. One of the major projects we will do in the course is the making of a game (although it's not just game-making that we do. We also have to develop a software solution package, although I'm not sure what that is..) I was wondering whether Java is a good language to use. In class, our teacher covers Visual Basic, but I don't think that's terribly good if I want to do well in the course. We are allowed to use any language we want. The other option I was considering was C++. With Java and C++, I have to learn the language in my own time, not in class. But I have self-teaching guides for both. I also want to join a programming club that enters members into programming competitions. So my question is this: is Java a good language for me to learn to use in this course and in the programming club/competitions, given what I've described above, and is C++ or VB better for this purpose, and why? Btw, I am not looking at a career in IT, so basically, I drop what I learn once I hit uni, except perhaps as a hobby. Thank you very much.
  6. People don't seem to know that as soon as their hosting is approved they will start losing credits whereas if they are not yet using hosting they will not lose credits. So I like to take my time before I apply for hosting. So when I DO apply, I'll not only have enough credits to support my hosting for a longer period, but I'll also have contributed more to Xisto before leeching off them So if spammers continue to desperately post in order to maintain their hosting, they'll lose it sooner or later, either through running out of credits or through getting banned.Oh, and on a side note, how do you get to be part of the Spam Patrol?
  7. My username is quite self-explanatory. I recently took an interest in building web pages using php and mysql. Unfortunately for me, phpandmysql was already taken so I used phpandsql.
  8. Wouldn't that be quite expensive?I was thinking, perhaps you can use miraculin and lemon juice in a suspension so that the miraculin floats to the top and the lemon juice sinks. that way, when someone drinks it, they drink the miraculin which coats to their tongue and then drink the lemon juice which will taste like lemonade. Of course, that wouldn't work with lemonade because the amount of acid the customer will consume would spark lawsuits. Try cakes. Coat with miraculin so the eater (if that's a word) gets the miraculin and then finishes a plain cake thinking that it's a sweet one. Perhaps a food-loving user could elaborate?
  9. If it's not too much trouble for you I'd really like a central login system (similar to JA-SIG but easier to install and implement) which a forum, cms, gallery, blog etc can easily plug into. I haven't decided what forum cms etc to use, so I'd also like the code I should insert into the existing script to make it use the central login system rather than its own login system. I'd like it to encrpyt the password using SHA1 and store it in a mysql db. It would also be great if it included a registration system where the user can choose which services (forum, gallery) they want to register for. A toolbox for the user to edit which services they want to use as well as their details would be nice too.Thank you VERY much in advance.
  10. lol. Don't you just LOVE these phishermen? Out of interest, has anyone using Windoze Live Mail received these messages? If so, does the Sender ID Verification thingy pick up "admin@microsoft.com" as failing the verification? I'd laugh if MS's email service failed to pick up someone phishing an M$ email. And besides, why would you even use IE7 in the first place? Right now I'm using Opera. I usually use Firefox but my installation has some problems with IPB which causes it to display a "stopped" message for no apparent reason, before refusing flat-out to load any other page. I've seen the new IE7. It's M$'s version of Firefox and Opera. It $UCK$.
  11. From the beginning, Google had included Norton AntiVirus in their Pack. Last time I checked, it came with a 6 month subscription for antivirus definitions. Now it includes Norton Security Scan. If you read the fineprint at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ you will find that the NSS will detect spyware/adware but will not remove it. NAV could detect AND remove all types of malware. Probably a publicity stunt by Symantec Not that it matters, considering you get Spyware Doctor. I don't like the sound of "starter edition" though. Here's the stuff you DON'T get in starter edition which you DO get in the paid version : I used the paid version for a while (got it off the cover CD of a computer magazine). It's quite a good piece of software, but it had big problems removing an installation of Elitum.Elitebar. As for the starter version, you're probably better off with Spybot S&D. Ther other stuff is pretty good. Especially the Google Software. Speaking of which, Google is planning to develop their own OS based on Ubuntu Linux. About Google Video Player, this bit surprised me: purchased? Does Google Video SELL videos now? If so, I much prefer YouTube. What's happening to it? Are YouTube and Google Vid still seperate sites or are they going to be merged at some point?
  12. For those who've had a bad day:Has anyone read that rather lovely picture book 'Alexander and the terrible horrible no good very bad day'? It's for 7 year olds, so I don't blame any of you if you haven't.The poor sod there wakes up with bubble gum in his hair, fails to find a toy in his cereal box (although every other member of his family DID), finds that his best friend doesn't want to be his friend any more, fails to get the window seat he wants in the car and ends up carsick, finds that the teacher doesn't like his drawing, goes to the dentist only to have the dentist tell him he's got a cavity in his tooth, have a fight with his sibling (which the sibling started) and get in trouble (though his sibling didn't get anything), something bad happens at his dad's office (i forgot what it was), he is forced to eat his least favourite food for dinner (beans), he hates watching TV shows with kissing but that night their TV show is filled with it, he is forced to wear his least favourite pyjamas, his brother takes away a pillowcase he was supposedly given to keep, and he burns his tongue on his nightlight. All the way through he thinks of running away to Timbuktu. In the end his mother tells him "some days are like that" and he goes to sleep thinking "tomorrow will be a better day. some days are like that."Maybe you should think of that next time you have a bad day. Or you can always go to THE VENT!My day was quite ordinary. Although the cuttings I was growing for my school assignment died and I realised I was very far back with my science work and the book was being collected for marking tomorrow, I realise these things always tend to happen to me, so I get used to them. It's Murphy's law.
