  1. Hi there, Apparently you want to use C/C++ being that you posted this in the C/C++ Programming forum! DOH! I should have looked first, but I am new at this bb stuff. I have done something like this before, but it was several years ago. I did use the Win32 API, so I think I can reproduce it. It was done in C, not C++ so it should work with either compiler. Give me a bit of time to try to remember. Thanks ----------------- Kristofer Hoch "int main(int argc, char *argv[]){ ... }"
  2. You can't do what you are asking unless you write a program to do it. You can use Perl pretty easily for something of this nature. You can also use C/C++ (CFile). Do you have an idea of how you want to do this (write a program, run a windows command)? Thanks, ----------------- Kristofer Hoch "TIMTOWTDI (tim-toe-dee): There is more than one way to do it -- Perl Motto"
  3. Hi all, This is a really good subjective question. There are several answers for me. If I am doing straight website stuff (no database connectivity) I would chose PHP. That is what it is designed for. If I am doing Database/Text Processing I would choose perl. Even if it is a Web Front End, all of my processing would happen in a backend Perl environment, and the Web Front end would just get the information and beautify it. If I am doing larger projects with one of the constaints being cross platform, or Application Scale-ablity, or if I want maintainable code, I would Choose Java. If I wanted to torture myself, or serve penance, I'd use C++. If I wanted to do a Unix or Windows simple utility that ran like the wind, I'd us C. If I wanted to do something wrong, I'd use Visual Basic There really is no "best" programming language. It is all based on what you need to do. 4. Hi there, I would say that Bill Gates having his own version of Windows is not unlikely. Saying that let me qualify what I mean. I DO NOT mean that his Windows is built from a separate set of source code than the regular Windows builds. I DO NOT mean that he gets a special build of windows with a special set of compiler flags (which can be easy enough). What I do mean is someone configures a Windows installation just for him that turns off all the crap that nobody needs. You know all the junk that runs by default because Microsoft thinks that you may need it. That is simple enough to do, and then burn an installation CD with the Words "Microsoft Windows XP, Bill Gates Edition" Just my 2 cents----------------Kristofer Hoch"There should be no Windows on Nuclear Powered Submarines (or computers)"
  5. Yeah! Maybe a sub forumn of Real Life or something. Then when you want to protest against the cancellation of a show, everyone can come here to talk about why it is bad to cancel! I'd have loved to seen something like that when they were cancelling "Once and Again". That was a damn good show. I don't think it would work as a protest outlet, but it would be a great idea for members to beable to talk about shows with other fans:D ---------------- Kristofer Hoch "When did they cancel 'The Greatest American Hero'?"
  6. Hi there, My favorite MMORPG is World of Warcraft, hands down. I started playing WoW during the first stress test on a computer with the following make up.-----------------------PC133 system boardPentium III 1.10ghz 133 fsb256mb RAM with 133mhz frontside busSoundBlaster Live audio20gb harddriveWindows 2000GeForce 2 32mb video w/ Tv-Out-----------------------The game rocked, and the graphics were beautiful. Me and my wife played (alternating) throughout the 12 days of stress testing. We tried and failed to get into second Beta, but we applied for Second Stress test and made it in! Stress test wasn't going to start for 3 days so I said screw it and I built the following computer for my wife.==============System board, 800mhz fsb - built in audio - built in NIC (1ghz)Pentium 4 3.0ghz w/HyperThreading 800fsb512mb RAM 533mhz fsbATI Raedon 9800 pro 256mb built in memory (by Sapphire)21 inch monitor80gb harddriveCDRW-DVD Combo==============Additionally I upgraded my ram to 512 (maximum) and video to a GeForceFX 5500 256 built in memory.Needless to say hers rocked mine, but I can still play happily on mine. The game scales well for video. We played Stress, got into Open Beta, and then bought 2 Collectors Editions:D We love this game.----------------Kristofer Hoch"Crap, gotta hang up baby, my boss is coming and about to aggro."

    Wow

Ouch, I don't like the no transfer of account, but you can transfer ownership of software/manuals thing. That isn't smart. I don't know what would be smart, but I know that isn't it. It is a damn good thing that I don't have to figure it out. Just my 2 coppers Kristofer Hoch ---------------- "Grind grind grind....DING....oh yeah."
  8. Hi there, I am Dragonsfire on the Garona server. World of Warcraft was the first MMORPG that I have ever played, and I am loving it. Level 58 already (3 months from retail). I say already but I saw players at level 60 in december (3 to 4 weeks out of retail). I was like dude, get up...eat ... take a shower. But I digress, this is a great game! Kristofer
  9. Hi there, I like using Perl for programming. Most of the work I do with it eventually involves the web. I don't use it in a CGI environment though, I use it as a tier two processing language. How do you use perl (if at all), or why do you not like perl vs. your preferred language? Thanks,Kristofer Hoch-----------------"Not a Perl Biggot"
  10. Firestorm, This is great information. Now a question for you. Are all of those meta tags required, or are the optional? Also, when you add these tags, how long does it usually take to get your site listed? Thanks, Kristofer Hoch ----------------- "Usernames are just like taxes, everyone has to many"
