Abortion : For Or Against Abortion? Share ur views on ABORTION?
gunbound replied to Milk's topic in General Discussion
As I've read across this post and its replies, I've seen a lot of the same thing repeated over in different ways. I think this debate can be broken into several different arguments. The reasons why people are against abortion are as follows: 1) Religious obligation 2) Believing that abortion is murder 3) Better solutions And the reason why people are not against it are: 1) Women?s right 2) It's too controversial 3) It's not life yet 4) Laws are too complicated 5) A child is worse off if unwanted/parents can't provide for it 6) The rape/accidental conception argument ...and probably more. First of all, the majority of the Pro-Life movement is in *majority* by people who feel the obligation to do what "is right" - people do what their religion tells them to/what their religion has brought them to believe. And this is a major issue. America, in my opinion, is being "taken over" by Christianity - it has the power to elect a president and influencing the laws all on it's own. This force is too strong and I see it as a mild violation of the First Amendment. These groups are imposing their beliefs upon the whole country. That's right, their BELIEFS, and I'll explain... The argument: abortion is murder! How can this be proved? Of course, the complications of this argument are immense. There are also those nine months in which the baby grows... so how long does it take before it is "life"? That is a major issue, because no one gets to decide. But the bias people who are against abortion will of course say that it's at conception, because this is of course a way to get abortion banned altogether. But nevertheless, it's just an *opinion* because there is no scientific evidence that can be used to prove this. Even if the fetus moves, that doesn't mean that it's "alive". Then it gets even more complicated... what does "alive" mean? Does that mean that it can move? Or does that mean that it has consciousness and/or a will to live? Of course, the best way for the church to get the vote for what they believe is to tell their people that it is a sin and use fear of wrong doing to influence their bias. Human beings have a very important survival mechanism that give people, especially women, the innate drive to preserve the life of the young. There have been laws concerning abortion for at least 2500 years, since the time of Mesopotamian civilization, concerning this issue for the same reason. In order for life to go on, a creature or society must create a new generation. The point here is that people hate the idea of "killing babies" because of this instinct. But modern man is evolving beyond instinct now. We are able to preserve our society (our immense society) in so many ways. In my opinion, this perseverance is getting out of control. As humans so greatly hate the idea of death, we will not only prevent the death of the new, but also the death of the old through medicine and advanced procedures. Obviously, humanity already has a long history of breaking the nature of life. If we can extend life beyond usefulness, then surely we can prevent life for good reasons. But because we fear death so much, people want preserve the old for as long as possible and bring in the new as much as possible. Eventually, we're going to reach the problems such as overpopulation and a lack of resources - probably not even within our grandchildren's lifetime, but someday, generations beyond them. So if we're going to control life, it should be done for the right reasons, and there are good reasons to prevent unwanted life. So the issue of abortion appears to involve humanity?s innate drive to preserve life - but we also must consider preserving the well being of society. The truth is, that many people who might want an abortion and are denied will have children that are neglected and abused. This of course, inevitably leads to far worse conditions. These children MIGHT grow up into: poverty, drug and alcohol abuse, and crime. It is arguable that the people with these problems today are a result of bad nurturing. In other words.... some people just shouldn't have kids! And if they tried to avoid pregnancy and it happens anyways, which is common, they should be able to abort if they choose to. The argument of course, goes on and on, virtually without end, and it will remain that way because of extreme bais. So conclusively, since there is such great opposition in the abortion debate, it seems logical that there should be a line drawn in the middle. The worst thing to do is to illegalize (or legalize) it *entirely*... and I guarantee that this won't happen because of the intense debate. I think that the best solution is to allow abortions to be performed properly, only in a hospital or clinic (if it is illegalized is will become a trade just like drugs - dirty and unsafe) and the patient's situation must be acceptable for the approval of the procedure. Also, abortions should not be allowed after a certain amount of time in pregnancy. Where that line should drawn I cannot say, but according to my research a woman may not know that she's pregnant until after up to a month and a half. Once a woman knows that she's pregnant, she should make the decision immediately. After the first trimester, for example, abortion should not be allowed. And on the other hand, when a woman can safely give birth and there?s someone who wants to adopt, the baby should be born and given for adoption. And abortion should definitely not become a form of ?birth control? - a woman should have a limit on the number of abortions that can be done. As in most cases, when the debate is too controversial and divided as great as it is now, there should not be legislation in favor of only one side - we need to compromise for both sides and especially not draw a dogmatic or biased conclusion. Thanks for reading my opinion. -
There is something very important to learn from this discussion. It is very true that video games (including things like web surfing) are a high opportunity cost. Meaning - if you're doing these things, you're giving up time that you could use much more wisely. From virtually all console and online games, there is absolutely no advantage, other than perhaps getting a young person into a gun-happy character and enlisting in the military. When someone is sitting on their butt for hours upon hours a day and through the week, there is 1) no exercize and 2) no useful life knowledge will be gained. When young people eventually grow up (if they ever do), they will look back on all of the life they'd spent on something without benefit. Such is the point of view of the first quote above. From the second quote, their is also a point. Most young people don't have the patience for a book or a game of chess. But video games are not a good substitute! "The strategic part of the brain" does not grow so much as you might think by playing video games. Of course, you do have to think and solve problems from some games, but not in a way a graet as you would by playing chess. Books are also very important because they will provide knowledge (if you're reading the right ones). Knowledge is an extreemly important part of human life, in fact, as we all know, it's our brains that make us such special creatures. So it should be excersized! Of course, there's no way to say that video games are all that bad. What's important is to be MODERATE. In other words, don't waste your life away by spending all your time in front of a glowing screen. People want to rlax and have fun, that's important too. But it's at least equally important to preper yourself for the future, because video games are much different than the real world.

Hey, I used to make Dragonball Z web sites when I was younger! Making them is how I learned everything I know about web deisgn. I made about 7 different sites and now I'm going to use the latest design for my new web site (need 7 more posts after this to get accepted) for a fansite for the game Gunbound (will be http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ). I still love Dragonball, but it's too bad that a good version is too hard to get in the USA. FUNimation dubbed it into english, but they also cut it, used corny voices, corny sound effects, and changed what the characters said and made it into a childs show on Cartoon Network. I think there were other animes that I liked... but it's been so long that I've forgot. Mostly Dbz.

Thank you very much! I guess I'm just not used to something like this, I've never seen a web host that uses a forum this way. I think it's a great idea!It took a long while for me to find Xisto. I was searching for quite a while through page after page, from site to site, and web host to web host, I just wasn't ready to find this. So I probably wasn't able to remember what I read what site I remember if from, which would explain my confusion. I think that it would be good for this site to have a link to a page external from the forums that would provide the information that I needed to learn from the above links. Thanks again,

Honestly, I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out how to work around Xisto. I joined just today with hopes of finding a reliable host, and I think I found it! I've been making posts that are useful to the forum, and I have over 12 credits. I applied to get my web space but the processing page did nothing after about 10 minutes, so I figured that it went through. Then I came back to the forum to read somewhere that one needs 15 credits, even though I've read from the General page that I only need 10 to get Package 1. I'm so confused! Why isn't there a page where full instructions are available for someone new like me, instructions to help me figure out how I do this? I've read a lot of the forum postings and found no help yet - but it shouldn't be that hard. I tried logging in to my account and it says that the logins fails - as if it didn't register when I tried. Why isn't there a page where I can get a good tutorial? Is it just me? Why is this so difficult? Someone please help!

I got a program from downloads.com that has a perfect rating - something that's hard to come by from their admins. Of course I tried it and at first I thought it was great. But after going a considerable amount of coding, the program seemed to have automatically formatted my html. I like to code manually, so I like to have my html in a fasion that's easy to read and find what I want when I want it. TSW WebCoder not only added code that I didn't need, but worst of all, it compacted the code into a thin column of only about 20 characters per line - breaking the code into pieces and making it hard to recognize. It took me hours to manually straighten it up. The final problem that I've noticed from it is that it's features such as "code cleanup" doesn't even work. I tried to use this to fix the problem, but all it does is delete the entire doocument. It would be disasterous to try this and then accidently save the file! I got Dreamweaver MX 2004 instead. Stay away from TSW WebCoder.

I'm 21. I started doing web design when I was 16 (I think) and I made a lot of great web sites. I even got a job as a programmer at a bank. Once I realized that I hate working in a cubical for most of the day every weekday, I gave that up to become a submarine pilot. I'm going to college now and haven't done any web design since that last programming job. Then last week, when I decided to make a fan site for a game that I'm playing now (I'm waiting to get hosted here at Xisto). My advice to you young people: web design is a great hobby and can lead to a great job, but working in a cubical is aweful! Also FURTHER YOUR EDUCATION AND GO TO COLLEGE!

Hey, that's cool! I wasn't expecting to get a reply because the majority of games on this forum are console related.Red wand is pretty high! I'm soon to be a gold battle axe and I have a lot of avatar. How do you sell your stuff on eBay? I have used eBay before, but I've never shopped for GB related things. $400 is quite a bit of money, so maybe some day I'll sell my stuff too. Hopefully I can write a good guide once I get my web site going. Where'd you get that guide you're talking about? Or was it a hack tool?

I used to play UT2K4 like crazy! Actually, I started with UT and then UT2003. Unfortunately, I use a laptop, so once I got 2003, I was a bit laggy, then when I got 2004, the lag was worse and I just got sick of the lag and stopped playing (I have only 16MB video card) :DSomeday I'll get a powerful desktop and I'll play it again, because it's still my favorite game. For now though, I'm playing a simple, yet as addictive, game called GunBound (gunbound.net). At least it's free!

GunBound is a FREE game that people around the globe are playing. It's like an old game I remember called Scortched Earth, a game that was played on Windows NT - and then I discovered GunBound. Like Scortched Earth, GunBound is a game of players who choose a "mobile" to drive in and shoot at the other players. It's a simple, 2-dimentional game which is colorful, musical, and very addictive! As you play, you earn gold and game points. Gold is the game currency which is used to buy "avatar" items, which are items of clothing that will assist the player in winning (adds attack power, shield, etc...). Game points will slowly add up and will raise the players ranking from a noobie to a dragon. This is a game that is compatible for all ages - foul language is filtered. It requires little system resources to play. And chat is enabled at all time durung the game. GunBound players can add their buddys and play together over the internet. The game can be downloaded at gunbound.netXisto will give me free web hosting so I can serve my own GunBound fansite - Thank you Xisto!
