Having used Vista I agree there is little gain by the new Aero gimmicks. It is useful to draw attention to specific windows and good to impress those who haven't seen it yet. The 3D tab-bar is too limited to be a great innovation. However under the hood there are some advances which will make Vista the better Windows - at least as soon as hardware drivers start getting available. For the open source part I just remembered a great project: Looking Glass by Sun. It is a 3D Desktop for Linux. the windows seem to be truly 3D, you can open a video player and actually turn the player's window and watch it from the back. Seems to be more advanced than MacOS and Vista combined.

Did I Find Her? So many problems, but yet still together
panicsafe replied to BooZker's topic in Dating And Relationships
BooZker, for me it sounds like you have fallen in love with girl y?You are asking for advice? Don't think too complicated. There are always many "what if's" in a relationship. You might marry her, maybe after 7 years you get divorced. Who knows? If you don't try you'll never know. Right now you feel great about girl y, so stick to her and make her feel good, too. Your uncertainty seems to be your biggest problem so try to find out about what you truly want... my guess is you already did without knowing -
I really enjoyed Mario Kart: Double Dash, especially the multi-player mode. Super Smash Bros was quite some fun though I was not good at it. In the end I think the Gamecube had many good multi-player games bringing together friends playing in the living room. X-Box and PS2 games were focused on single player even though both offered online capabilities. I am glad to own a Wii and enjoy the GC-games while waiting for new Wii titles.

I tried the game a while ago and found it quite hard to control. The more I was surprised what people could do with it. The most amazing video I have seen can be found here: Youtube - Linerider Jumps the Shark Simply unbelievable! The game seems to have inspired a few 'artists' as well, creating sort of a 3D-course: Youtube - Line Rider - Urban Run

Might take some time but imho Google has more potentials than MS and moving at a faster speed. MS missed the Internet and also Web 2.0. "The net is the computer" - as soon as this becomes reality, products like MS Office and MS Windows are likely to decrease in importance.

There are a few good working PSP-TV clients. Oddly most programmes are Chinese but many movies are broadcasted in English with subtitles. Try any of these: TVnetworks (Channel List) PPLive (Homepage) TVKoo (Chinese, no link, use google.com) Some programmes might be temporarily down due to yesterdays earthquake close to Taiwan which practically cut off Asia from the Internet.

Thank you shadowx. Yes I am a programmer, however I am much more familiar with asp.net, unfortunately I need to fix some php-sites at my work. As I thought most people here will use PHP I chose a PHP command I intend to use PHP here at Xisto as it does not support asp.net. That is no problem though as I only need it for very few functions, most of my planned site will be static.

Secret German Holocaust Documents Found After 60 Years
panicsafe replied to owbussey's topic in General Discussion
You'd be surprised that the Holocaust was not only documented in notebooks but by computers also. There was a business alliance between IBM and the Third Reich. The Nazis used punch card mashines made by the IBM company Deutsche Hollerith Maschinen Gesellschaft to plan and organize the genozide as well as use them for documentation, reporting and statistics. Just like any war there is always a money making issue that comes with it. From an American view that is really bitter: While fighting the Germans it were also American corporations making money by supporting the Wehrmacht. Have a look at General Motors' European brand Opel. Opel had factories in Germany actually manufacturing the military trucks that brought Nazi soldiers to the battlefields. After the war GM took over the fortune Opel made during wartimes. Paradox isn't it? -
Microsoft .net Framework 3.0 Rc Available For Download
panicsafe replied to delivi's topic in Science and Technology
It is 100% free, seriously It is already installed on all Windows Vista versions and you can download it here if you want to install it on your Windows XP mashine. Actually .NET 3.0 is "just" .NET 2.0 extended by three subframeworks: Windows Communication Framework (component interoperability as a substitute to webservices) Windows Presentation Framework (allowing cool vector based controls for .net applications) Windows Workflow Foundation (designing software systems as a business workflow) I recently visited a few Microsoft Tech Talks and had an insight view at those technologies. Looks quite interesting and I am eager to use them for my own projects soon. -
Google In Your Local Language fantastic or funny side
panicsafe replied to err's topic in The Internet
This is a relative old thread and much might have changed since it has been started. If you visit google and your regional google site appears you can still force it to go to google.com. Just click the Google.com in English to the lower right of the google form. Have a look at the screenshot I made from the German google.de: -
Just introducing myself. Honestly, at first I was looking for free webhosting. Having browsed through this forum I now think it is a good idea to ask members to post in order to keep their webspace. It's really busy here and I like that! Not much to say about me, as soon as I have my site running I will post its url here. I hope it is okay to have some non English stuff on it as I am from Germany and intend to use the German language. Maybe I will make it a dual language site...

Which One Will You Go For, Xbox 360, Ps3 Or Wii?
panicsafe replied to james2002's topic in Computer Gaming
Nintendo's Wii convinced me. It is affordable, has a unique controller and Zelda. The PS3 will certainly be the better system in terms of hardware, but for good graphic games I have my PC, which already exceeds the PS3 in any way.
