  1. Why not just get a hard disk with enough free space ( at least 20GB )and install windows 7 on it and as the secondary boot drive on your computer.

Then you can try it out before fully switch out to it.

Or you can just go on Microsoft's websites and view videos, screenshots, ect of what Windows 7 looks like and then compare it to what you currently have. That way, you do not need to go get a separate hard disk just so you can try it out... unless of course you already have one :)

  2. Hey Herman!

Welcome to Xisto. The premise of Xisto is that people like you and I can post on these forums and get free web hosting while doing so. The way all of this works is Xisto uses a credit system called 'MyCent.' With MyCent, every time you post you earn credit based on how much quality that post is. The more quality posts you make, the more MyCent you earn. Once you earn enough MyCent, you can then exchange your MyCent for free web hosting, domain names, ect. One thing to note about MyCent and Xisto is it's the quality of the posts that matter not the quantity.

    Quality > Quanity

Somebody could easily make 100 posts and earn a set of Mycent, yet somebody else could only post 10 posts but earn MORE Mycent because his/her posts were longer, more thorough and contributed more. That's the way the MyCent system is built, so keep that in mind while you are browsing around the forums.

If you are still unsure about the whole Mycent system even with my length explanation, you can view this link where Opqaue(The site admin) goes into even more detail

  3. Looking past the low prices, eBay is a marketing based trap. Some people might wonder why the heck would anyone sell prices that low? I mean, $0.01 cents? Some items are reserved. That means if you don't bid up to a set price not displayed, then the vender has the right to not sell you their garbage. That makes some feel jipped. And if you ever manage to get a good deal on something (like a computer), you have to deal with shipping charges. Some sellers overcharge their shipping prices. I know people that do so. And if you're really unlucky, you might end up with a broken computer. And with the no refunds, the only thing you have to fight back with is giving bad feedback, which nobody ever looks at nowadays.

EBay sucks! If you shop there long enough, you'll probably get cheated one day. Instead, I recommend Amazon.com. Stuff there is really cheap! I buy books there often. Even the used books look new! Check it out. You might find something you'll like.

Today in one of my classes we learned about Logical Fallacies. I think what you posted would fall under the hasty generalization logical fallacy. What you're saying has some merit to it, but not much. In any situation when you are buying products from people who aren't registered businesses, you are going to run into problems. The funny thing is, though, that I've been shopping on Ebay for almost 3 years now and have not witnessed much of the problems you have. Sure, some people do charge a bit much for shipping, but a lot of vendors that I buy from offer free shipping. Furthermore, if for whatever reason the product I get isn't what I expected, I'll email the vendor and ask for a refund. IF, the vendor fails to give me a refund, I'll just open a dispute with paypal and they will usually give me my money back that way.

So, Ebay doesn't suck. IF you use it properly. You, on the otherhand, have probably used it one what... once, twice? Maybe you haven't even used it? Because it doesn't seem like you know much about it...

  4. oh, spyda, i am so sorry for you. sure , it was like a nightmare. the worst thing ever that you should face a teacher that you hate for the whole semester or the whole year. thanks god i didn't been hated by a teacher before but i was hating physiques, it was so hard to finish the year without getting a D. unlike, french i finished my six years with A and i can assure you most of that because i loved the french language, my teachers for the whole six years were great, i love them all till now. i think teachers inspired students to love or to hate the class, they are the key to success in many ways.

Oh yeah most definitely. French is a great language if taught correctly, just in my instance the whole class just made me not want to learn about French nor expand on the "limited knowldege" I had gained through my 3 years of it (I didn't take it my senior year, thank God.)

  5. ok thank youI think I get it now

So if I do a great tutorial, I'll earn more than with this useless post

Yupp, that's right. Just make sure the tutorial is 100% yours and is not copied from another site, or source or anything like that. Copying posts is against the rules and will get you warned and you do not want that to happen :P

  6. Oh it is very expensive I imagine that all those who want this package have to be posting here until June or something like that. Well my sites are not so popular so I can make my hosting with the basic logic plan but sinceresly I think that this is a little exagerated.
Congratulations to all the staff of Xisto and xisto for their cooperation with this type of package that definetly will help to a lot of members.

    Regards.

Yes, but it lasts for one full year so you can post for, lets say a month or so and then you don't have to for a very long time afterwards. Furthermore, Opaque himself said that this plan would fit well for people who have a credit card and combine it with their mycents. So, for example, they use some of their MyCent to cover some of the costs, but use their credit card to pay off the rest.

  7. Okay I am going to give my lengthy views on what I think about for the topic of Euthanasia and whether or not I think the person itself should be allowed to decide or whether the family of the person who is under the scrutiny of euthanasia should decide upon it.First of all, I agree with one poster when he said it is in our own free will whether to keep living or take our life. If one is suffering from an incurable disease and that it is causing him great pain, then it is only rightful and merciful if he is allowed to end his agony by means of euthanasia, but of course, only if he wanted to.To add to that, I think this is only reasonable if that person has in his/her will that if they were ever in a position where they were suffering that they would WANT to be put to death. In that case, I think their wish should be commanded. In the instance where there is NO will set outside, then I think it is up the parents to decide whether or not their son/daughter or relative should be allowed to stay alive or no.

  8. I am paying $42.50 for a 512MB connection including the cable to all my house... In my country this is a very good price...
But the dialup connection that the biggest part of my country use cost $1.36 per one hour and this is a ridiculous price because they are using hours and that is unbelievable.

Wow.. you're paying $42.50 for a 512MB connection? That seems sort of expensive, but of course I live in the USA so the prices are bound to be much, much different. Furthermore, 1.36 an hour for dial-up is just a ridiculous price. Especially since dial-up is so very slow. Anyway, would you mind tell us what country you live in so we maybe can figure out why the interent and bandwidth, ect costs in your country or so expensive?

  9. Well the 911 text messaging sounds good because in an emergency a text message can save our lives and the silent mode of a text message is very convenient when there are thiefs in your house and situations like that. The service in Usa to support to all the people in troubles is the best in the world and the 911 number is one of the most famous phone numbers in all the planet and now with the new technology is great to know that there is available a service with text message in case of emergencies.
But maybe the "contra" think that this maybe is not convenient to the police department and all the units because there are a lot of people that enjoy wasting their time making jokes to the authorities and the text mesage will be the idoneus method to continue disturbing the law.

Because of that I think that all the jokers and funny guys have to pass a week in prison at least; and learn that anybody can laugh law.

I disagree with you when you say that it won't be convenient to the police department and all the units because there are a lot of people that enjoy wasting their time making jokes to the authorities and the text mesage will be the idoneus method to continue disturbing the law.

If you think about it, when a person sends a text message to someone else, the person they send it to will know where the text message is coming from (the #.) And in the instance of the police department, they can take the phone # and know exactly where you are calling from and thus prosecute you if you are going to prank phone them or send them jokes ect.

Also, what do you mean when you say "Because of that I think that all the jokers and funny guys have to pass a week in prison at least; and learn that anybody can laugh law."

  10. Do not even get me started with the French language... I have a bad history with French that dates back to my freshman year of high school when I decided it would be a good idea to pick French as my foreign language choice. (In my high school, we were given the option of choosing one of four different languages in which we would like to go into. The choices were: French, German, Spanish, and Japanese.) For me, I decided that it would be good I went into French because I thought it would be the easiest choice out of the four. Stupidly enough, it was not and even it was easy that really is not a good premises to decide on what class to choose. You should pick a class because you are interested in what is be taught and not because you are trying to get an easy A. That is beside the point, anyway, and so my first year of French began.

It started out relatively easy. We went through the alphabet and began learning how to say things like "Je suis. Tu Es, Il est, ect." I was understanding most of things we were doing and my grade was an A. I was beginning to think that maybe French was as easy as I thought and that it was a good decision. So my freshman year ended and then it was time for us to decide on classes for the next school year. I decided to pick French so I could get more fluent in it and because my first year was so great that it just made sense to take it for a second year. Anyway, the second year was TOTALLY different. We had a new teacher, who was not as nice or good at teaching as the first one. She really would be in a pissy moods and take our her anger on the students. Now, sometimes kids screw around and the teachers get angry which is 100% acceptable, but in all these instances we never did anything. In fact, my French 2 class was made up of roughly 10 students who were extremely shy and introvert. Anyway, so as the semester progressed, most of us all had D's. My parents were called in for conferences and that is when the teacher told my parents that I was lazy and had no determination at all. She told me that I would eventually fail unless I got my "act" together.

All of this was total BS. I did all my work in that class, but when it came to her tests she would put things on there that we never went over. Some of them included "What is the delicacy of France." "What time system is France in." They were all questions like that which would've been easily answered by me had we gone over them. To make matters worse, my parents believed all the bull crap that the teacher had told them and they insisted that I begin studying 24_7 for this class so I would avoid failing. So, I did as they wished and began studying as much as I can. I would literally study for 8-11 every night and my French was becoming better and better. I soon was able to increase my D to a B and then was offered to go into French Honors. This is where the story gets worse. I did not want to take French Honors. I was satisfied that I was able to achieve a B in that class and going into French Honors, with the same teacher I might add, was not something I wanted to get my self into. BUT, my parents assured me if I studied I would do fine and they wanted me to get into some honors classes before I graduated.

So, my junior of year of high school came and here I was in French 3 Honors. Thinks seemed to have gotten better when I started out in the class, but then things turned for the worse one day in class. I was talking to a girl behind me (who was pretty hot ) and the teacher was in the middle of a lesson. My teacher didn't ask me to stop and allowed me to continue talking, but this was all apart of a bigger plot. She then proceeded to tell me to leave her class and that I was not allowed to go back the entire week. I was shocked, but I thought that all of this was her speaking in anger and I returned to class the very next day. When I was going into the classroom, approaching my desk she pointed and me and said NO. She asked me to leave and said that I was not allowed to come back to class until next Monday. I thought this was more than ridiculous, but she obviously didn't and I was forced to follow her commands. When Monday came along, I was so far behind in that class that I ended up failing the semester. It brought my GPA so low that I was not able to recover (Good thing it was an honors class.) French class was probably the WORST experience of my young life and it really as ruined the language of French for me forever.

  11. hosting myself a website is more for the technical challenge, the idea of hosting everything yourself but I know I cannot do something as good as a professional host provider...One problem also is that I wanted to make a website with the framework django which I really like but cannot find an free host for it (is there the posibility to install other framework here ?)
anyway I think I'll like Xisto, I've read some really good review about this community and that's why I'm here

  12. I also don't believe in that global warming which is politics and is just for money and to scare people with facts which aren't really provable or even is propaganda, I want to say that it's not like people are to blame for everything and co2 which is also funny, and all those facts like "if arctic would melt, the water would rise 7 meters and etc." but don't they consider that water would spread around the world and into deserts too and etc. Anyway..
But looking from other side, I don't like the fact that there are a lot of trash in the world, in rivers, in lakes, in forests and etc. Personally I think it's a much bigger problem.. I hate the fact that there are lakes which are polluted and what I even hate more is the food we get in the mall, it's all usually is bad and unhealthy in some way.. due to all the new technologies which again for money people use, chemicals and stuff to make it cheaper to produce or faster to grow.

There were always tornadoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, a lot of snow and rain, floods.. but people living in those regions should know where they live, it's not like the climate and earth is static, it's dynamic having some kind of average algorithm usually depending from our main energy source the sun.

I totally agree with you when you say you do not like the fact that there are a lot of trash in the world, river, lakes and all other environmental areas where they SHOULD NOT be. What I kind of don't understand with your post is where you talk about how you dislike food that you receive in the mail? What are you referring to there? I've never received food in the mail and have never heard of companies or businessmen selling food and sending them via the mail so the consumer can then eat it at their hours.

But yeah I do agree with most of what you're saying. There will always be NATURAL DISASTERS! Tornados, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, rain, snow, hail, thunderstorms, ect. They will always exist no matter what we do, but if we allow ourselves to pollute the earth that we live and pollute the environment around us then what we are doing is making the natural distastes and all of that WORSE. But... when it comes down to the aspect of "global warming" is contributing to all of this, then no I do not agree and think that part of the equation is wrong :)

  13. When I went to the United States (for 2 weeks) we went to Walmart too. It is (I must admit) quite big compared to the UK shopping centers.

Wal-Mart is awesome! It took almost 6 years of protesting and petitions and finally our town allowed Wal-Mart to come in our city. I cannot tell you how much money I have saved from it being there... there is literally everything and ANYTHING you need you can get from Wal-Mart. They should start allowing people to rent out rooms in Wal-Mart :P

  14. my hometown is different from where i am living now. a LOT different. i am living in a town right now of a population 300-350 people.
anyway, i was born and raised in los angeles, california. specifically the san fernando valley in northridge, california. what i loved about that place is probably the people because they were so diverse and so many differant cultures which i was glad to be a part of. when i was growing up, by best friends we joe, who was korean, donald, who was african american, don, who was filipino, jack, who was armenian. i don't even have any best friends who were the same race as me. anyway, i though it was very cool to experience the different cultures of my best friends who are still my best friends to this day. we are all very close. also i liked the fact that los angeles doesn't hide crap. it's real life. you got the violence, the gays and cross dressers, the homeless, the runaways, the so-called american dream, etc... just so much to see and experience and learn from. it's an amazing place.

what i don't like about my hometown is the people. the same as what makes it most amazing. i can't describe in detail why i just hate the people there for the most part except to say that it's such a busy busy place and people are just too busy in their own lives to be friendly to someone who passes by you on a sidewalk. you have to try extra hard to get to know people. a lot of people are also very superficial and materialistic. a lot of fakeness surounds you there.

last but not least, just growing up with family was special too. everyone lived close so when i was a kid, we celebrated holidays together and we scheduled parties and gathering frequently. lots of family and friends close by to gather. nothing like a close knit family where you were born and raised.

Wow anwii... 300-350 people? That is incredibly small. My town has roughly 1500-300 people, somewhere around that # and for me, personally, I thought that was incredibly small. Even in my town, EVERYBODY knows EVERYBODY and whatever my business is, it's usually the person next to me's too. My next door neighbor is actually telling people right now that I'm posting about my town on Trap (Not really, that would be kind of creepy actually )

But yeah, how do you handle such a small town? Is it just as nosy as my town :P

  15. First to introduce yet another member... I'm on a roll

  16. I honestly thought I was the first person to think of this for the 911 emergency service, but after I googled the term "911 text messaging", I learned that I was wrong.
Apparently there are some places that already have this, and that completely stole my thunder. But it is a good concept for those situations when you can't talk on the phone in emergency situations.

I also agree with a lot of other people in this thread that 911 texting is a really good idea. Think about it for a second... if somebody is in a situation where they are struggling for their lives or they are being robbed, kidnapped, ect then texting 911 might be a lot easier then calling 911. Not only that, if you aren't trying to make noise or cause suspicion to yourself then this is also very helpful.

FURTHERMORE, some people use prepaid or other phones so if they run out of minutes what are they supposed to do? I'm not sure if they are still allowed to call 911, but if the person still has some text remaining then this could quite possibly save their life and others around them.

For me, this is a no-brainer and I hope that more and more towns/cities/states implement this :)

  17. I would put Kaspersky at the top as well, security wise. My reason does not include third-party reviews; rather, my judgment comes from this one website i came across a long time ago. The website for some reason was really hard to find, and i doubt i'd be able to find it again, but the website was some random, unofficial, online virus scanner. It only allowed a maximum file size but it would scan the file with at least 7 different popular virus scanners, Kaspersky being one of them. On the front page (or upload page) it would list the recent upload and the results of the scan. I would refresh the page every now and then to see new results. Out of all the ones i saw, Kaspersky had picked up the most out of all of them. Some of the free virus scanners listed on there did pretty good too.

Performance wise, i would not put Kaspersky on the top, maybe the bottom or near it. Therefore if one is looking for a decent virus scanner that takes up less resources, they should consider other ones. Nod32 probably doesn't waste much resources, at least perhaps not as much as Kasperskythough the ones with a high price tag tend to use a significant amount of resources, along with those you might find pre-installed on your system.

That seems like a trend with many different anti-virus packages. Mcafee was good, do not get me wrong, but just like Kaspersky it was resource intensive. That's the problem with most anti-virus software, it takes up way too much resources, but sometimes the more resources the better.

  18. do you think you are paying too much for your internet and not getting the proper speed, i had it once when i was on adsl but now have moved to proper broadband now witch is 4mb witch is really fast. like that uk online its too good to be that speed at its price but ill keep with who im with. :D

    Notice from m^e:
Try and keep your topic titles more relevant to your post content. This is the 4th post by you that I've had to edit the title. Your title should at least try convey an overall gist of your post - or else you'll never get good response, nor will your post show up on search engines. One or two words titles like Mysql, networking etc.. wouldn't even elicit any decent response from the readers. Most would just ignore your posts.

Right now my internet is bundled with our cable and our phone. I think we pay somewhere around 90 dollars per month for all three of these amenities. Our internet speed is pretty impressive. I currently am using wireless internet and that sort of slows the speed a bit, though if I were to connect the computer with a LAN wire to connect to the internet it would be much. much faster :)

  19. I would like to know how may of you use Gaia Online at http://www.gaiaonline.com/. I came across Gaia by accident when a friend told me about it. I don't really have much interest in such things as I don't have enough time to do the things I want to do as is. My interest was sparked when I signed up for an account and noticed that you get gold every time you move to another page or even refresh the same page. Now we are talking about a site that might interest me.
Of course I had to try it out and the result is a nice little program that I am about to finish up in the next few days. With a little creativity and programming I was able to get a little over 2.2 million gold in under two weeks.

I just want to know how many people here have ever used Gaia and what are your opinions. Also would anyone be interested in making alittle gold on the side?

I thought that this thread might get at least a small reaction, guess not :)

I really do not use Gaiaonline, I do have an account, but will I seldom use it. It does seem like a very nice forum with many posts. I was actually looking at a site that ranked all the forums in the world and which ones had the most posts and members and Gaia Online was on the top of the lists, so that just tells you something about the type of community that the people run over there!

  20. Sometimes its noted that gmaill servers donot respond after u login. Its mainly because of ur cache. Deleted the temporary internet files and empty u r cache..
    How to empy Cache?

click start button the click RUN

    type in cmd { goto to command promt}

    in the DOS window type

    ipconfig/flushdns

the dns cache will be emptied. This will also improve u r browsing speed ..

Try it.. Its a small tutorial but newbies ca learn frm it..

A flushdns doesn't just help when your Gmail is not working... it helps when you experience any sort of web related issues. I remember when I did use Gmail that it was sort of buddy. Given, I did use it when it first came out and it was in the beginning of the extensive "beta" process that it had to go with. Yahoo mail, on the other hand, has always been reliable for me. Though, I didn't really like the interface of it that much, especially compared to that of Gmail or similar services. Though, at the end of the day, I would rather use email that looked ugly but worked then use mail that looks awesome, but is extremely buggy and doesn't work.

  21. I'm using NOD32 and it is working quite fine here on my computer. atleast it is not Norton to hog all of the resources and leaving no room for work. internet security of nod32 is also nice package. just wish they had good malware and spyware with them.

I actually use Norton and it really doesn't hog any resources at all. It is much less resource intensive then what my old anti-virus package was (Mcafee.) Mcafee really used up way too many resources and it made my computer extremely slow whereas Norton keeps it virus free and it still maintains a good speed :)

  22. From what I know, this is top-notch software. The reason you may not have heard of this might be because it's rare in personal use. It has advanced settings for business usage, such as the administrating settings & configurations, like someone here already mentioned. And sometimes, you just don't hear about things, like I thought JSP meant javascript for a year :P
I use avira and avast(on linux, mostly for checking if I have any windows viruses in my downloads).

Even so, I've been around many business settings/environments and still have not heard of NOD so maybe it's just not common in my area. But I do agree with the face that just b/c you haven't heard of something, doesn't mean it's bad. I remember it took me a while to finally discover MyBB and I still think that it's one of the best free web software out there. Just because I didn't hear about, didn't mean it was terrible software or anything

  23. @DVDs
I don't think they are going to be replaced yet, most people still cant afford a blu-ray player, even i can't, i just use my PS3 to play it

I totally forgot about the whole blu-ray aspect of this all. For some reason, the concept of Blu Ray really hasn't hit me yet, as I do not use it nor will I for a while. I know the quality is supposed to be much better, but from the prices of Blu Ray, it's really just not worth it at the moment. The thing that I was referring to in my post was that the creation of services like Netflix where you know can stream movies and DVD's from your computer is really going to hurt both the DVD and Blu ray market because now not only do people not need to purchase the actual DVD's, but there will not be a need for video rental stores anymore.

  24. Yippe... I'm the first one to greet you :PAnyway, welcome to Xisto Zeeshan. Xisto is a great free web host where you earn a virtual monetary points that we call Mycent that you can then exchange for hosting and other related products such as domains, SSL certificates, ect. The whole point of MyCent is that you earn points for the quality of your posts and not the quantity. Somebody could easily make 100 posts and earn a small # of MyCent because their posts weren't very well written OR somebody could make 10 posts and have way more MyCent because their posts were of quality and more then just one liners, ect. I hope that helps... if you need anything, feel free to PM me

  25. Being able to stay in touch is great, but only on my terms. When I leave my apartment to go to classes, or someplace else on campus, I leave my cell phone in my apartment. Why? Because if I'm going to sit in a classroom for an hour, which I'm paying to do, then I don't want people bothering me with text messages, pointless phone calls or other stupid stuff like that. And if I do take the phone with me, I make friends with the "off" button. That's probably my favorite feature, hehe.
I like being completely unavailable. That's the whole point of going out and doing things away from my apartment. That's why I go off by myself and ride my bike, hang out in the library, etc. I don't like being available 24 hours a day.

But I think I'm the only one on this entire campus who feels that way. I watch fellow students send text messages back and forth the entire class meeting. Or, they grab their phones to call their friends the second class gets out. They've only been out of touch for 50 minutes, but they're going through some sort of withdrawal symptoms or something.

How did these people manage to live before cell phones became affordable?

I understand that some people need to be available. Some employees need to be on call. Or people have children, and like to be available in case one of them becomes sick and needs to be picked up from school. But these situations are different. The college kids are just addicted to the stupid phones.

My biggest question, though, is about the cell phone technology. Why do we need miniature iPods in our wireless phones when we already have portable MP3 players that are a) cheaper than the phone and ;) capable of holding a lot more songs? Why do we need to browse the Internet on screens roughly the widths of our thumbs? And why, I must ask, do we have to take low-quality photos of pointless junk with these phones and immediately send these images to every friend we have?

So. Yes, I hate cell phones. I appreciate the very basic point of them (being able to make and receive calls as long as I have a decent signal). Beyond that, I don't care.

Well technically you don't "hate" cell phones, just you prefer to be unavailable at times. Plus this thread was made in 2006 when cell phones were still relatively new... more and more people are much more dependent on their phones then before.
