  1. I've already gotten the case. And most of the reviews I've read about it say it has an extremely large amount of room. And I plan to order the motherboard next week. (I told you I'm doing this incredibly slowly, I really need some cash). But considering the size of the case I have, space is not really an issue. Thanks for the tip though!
  2. I have Windows Vista Beta. You had to sign up for the Windows Beta program by a certain date in order to download it. I got to it the day before it ended. From my experience, you have to have some pretty good hardware to run it. I would suggest at least a gig of RAM for a decent speed. And a 2.2 GHz CPU at the very least. There are bugs in it, but nothing too noticable from my view. I still have the download links, and they still work. But by law I'm not allowed to give them out :-\ Plus my registry key is only good for a total of 10 times. And I've already used it twice. You could also get the new version of MS Office Beta that's supposed to come out with Windows Vista. I think it was MS Office, at least. I could be wrong, I didn't download it.But in the Beta Program, you had a choice to download them yourself ("them" being the x86 or x64 versions), or you could get them to ship you a disk, but you had to pay shipping. I have download links for both x86 and x64 in 4 different languages. If you haven't seen any screenshots, it pretty much looks like the newest version of Windows Media Player. Except some things have transparency levels.
  3. I plan to get a $900 cpu. AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 2.80 GHz Dual-Core. (I changed my mind from my earlier posts) My case has a funnel that goes directly above the CPU so the CPU fan will flow the heat directly out of the case. But I don't even have my motherboard or CPU yet, and I have plently of time to work on changes. I don't make money that quickly at all. Will the funnel do? or will I have to take the funnel off and work on the airflow?
  4. I'll have 4 fans in the case itself + the CPU fan + 2 on the PSU. The case I have also has a fan controller and temp. display (I'll just leave the censor hanging so I can get the full system temp.) so I can turn them up when I need to.And the motherboard has "overclocking capability" (as if there were ever such a thing)

  6. Am I the only one here who doesn't do anything but ride a skateboard? I feel really lame.
  7. Oh. Well I'm impressed simply because I didn't have to pay for an external hdd when I formatted my current hdd. I don't have much that I absolutely needed, so the 2 gigs on Gmail was enough to store it. And I got the files back just as I uploaded them after I formatted.
  8. Chuck Norris went back in time and had sex with his mother. But this is not incest, for only the seed of Chuck Norris could produce something as perfect as Chuck Norris.David Hassselhoff, Selvester Stalone, and Chuck Norris were in a match to see who gets the chair in Heaven at the hand of God. When God asked David why he should get the chair, he replied, "Because I have done good by gracing the world with my presence." When He asked Selvester, he responded, "Because I have done the world good by being a role model. But then God asked Chuck Norris, "What do you think Chuck Norris?" Chuck Norris did nothing but look at Him and say, "I think you're in my seat..."
  9. Yea, but it's much easier to have the FTP-type interface :-\
  10. Oh yes. I forgot to mention that. But Gmail seems to get spammed no matter what, so I don't really notice. But for $50, deleting emails and taking surveys is a small price to pay.
  11. Well if I get an M2 motherboard, I plan to get an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.60GHz Dual Core. Which is really good for AMD.
  12. I'm sure there will be. And with as much time that it takes me to save up the money, I'll probably end up getting a different one. But thanks for all your help!
  13. I'll be honest with you from the start. I use this mainly on MySpace.com. With this extension, you can use JavaScript to alter any page anywhere! You can remove the ads off of specific websites, you can even customize the stylesheets if you know what you're doing! If you've ever been on MySpace.com, you know the annoying home page with all the ads and announcements. Well I have made my own script to clean it up a bit to match my profile. Here is a screenshot of my MySpace's homepage: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I've added some new things since the time of that screenshot, but MySpace is down right now, so I can't take a new one. But imagine, I did that to MySpace, imagine what more you could do!
  14. http://ipodlinux.org/ I have completely transformed my old photo iPod into a video playing, gameboy emulating, scripting machine! Yes, you can actually play uncompressed .avi videos on a photo iPod. I'm not saying that you can play new Gameboy Advance games or NDS games, but the developers at iPodLinux have created an emulator to run the roms of original gameboy games. The controls are placed around the touch wheel. You touch (not press) the upper-left corner for the "A" button, the upper-right corner for the "B" button, the lower-left corner for the "Start" button, and the lower-right corner for the "Select" button. I've been a part of the iPodLinux community for a while, and I've watched it grow and grow. And things only get better If you have an iPod of any kind, from the first generation black and white screened to the latest fifth generation video iPods, I highly suggest checking this out!
  15. But you have to remember, price is NOT the only factor. Reliability, as much as durability, are also key factors. Don't go out and buy the biggest and cheapest hard drive you can find at Wal Mart. Do a little research and read some reviews. Get a nice hard drive that is made by a well-known and trusted company with a lot of capacity. Also look into speeds and such. They do matter, believe it or not.
  16. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ This extension for Firefox is simply amazing to use as a small online hard drive for backing up important things. You can upload anything and store it all on more than 2 gigs of free space! I use it for programs I've worked long and hard on. Along with other files, like music, videos, flash files. It's incredible!
  17. I, personally, cannot stand Hotmail nor Yahoo mail. I love Gmail though. I also have an extension for Firefox called Gmail Space that makes Gmail act as more of an FTP server so I can back up a lot of my stuff using the 2.6~ gigs Gmail gives you. I don't really use Gmail as an email server, so I'm not too worried about my name and email address being exploited. I do use it to sign up for services though, such as Xisto. But honestly, I've grown to expect exploitation from even the most secure sites on the internet.Yahoo is definately my least favorite of the three. I don't like Yahoo mail, I don't like Yahoo hosting, and I don't even like Yahoo search. The only thing I EVER use Yahoo for is to quickly find out what time a movie is playing at my local theatre. And that's only because I live in a small city and the theatre doesn't have their own website.Hotmail, I suppose, can be trusted. But as does everything else Microsoft runs (especially the MSDN script database), it works best in Internet Explorer. And I'm a Firefox guy, and a big fan of CSS2 (which IE cannot interpret). But Hotmail was where I got my first email address, which I still use today for backup. But one hillarious thing I've found with Hotmail is they limit the number of addresses you can block, and my block list is full. But I suppose I don't like Hotmail mainly because I don't like Microsoft (not to say I like Macintosh any more. I can't stand either one of them. I <3 Linux), even though I'm slowly becoming more infatuated with Windows Vista. But back on-topic; I also recall Hotmail being strict on the size of attachments. And I haven't had that problem at all with Gmail. But the only way to get a Gmail address is the be referred, or call Google. Or, as I did, get lucky enough to find a link on Google's main page to sign up. But why is Gmail so restricted if the only big difference they have to offer is exploitations? I suppose being part of a restricted community just kind of makes you feel special
  18. I definately agree with rvalkass. Partitions aren't always reliable. If something happens to your hard drive and you have to completely format it, then the seperate partitions will also be formatted. And DVDs; you might as well try putting your hard drive in a cloning machine. That'd take forever, not to mention the amount of space. Plus the cost might add up if you really have as much as you say you do. An external hard drive is the way to go. Just plug it in, select all your files on your current hdd except the windows folder, and right click copy. Then go and paste, and go build a few models. It'll take some time, but if something ever happens to that hard drive, you'll be thankful you backed it all up.EDIT: And uploading would take beyond forever. Plus there are the possibilities of servers going down, your ISP going out for repairs, or something stupid.
  19. I don't think any of you can match my superior all-time low. I'm using an ATI Radeon 7000. Only 32 megs. And believe it or not, I was using Intel's 8 meg "integrated" chip on my motherboard up until about 2004. But I'm building my own computer now, and it should have an MSI nVidia 512 meg once I'm done with it. Maybe even one of those super-expensive 1 gig cards.
  20. It's pretty much as simple as they come. You take surveys they send you by e-mail about stuff like movies, games, music, etc... and you collect points for every survey you take. Around 60/survey is the average for me. Once you collect 1000 points, you can redeem them for 50 bucks. I got my first check in the mail last week, and it was valid and everything. So I'm gonna continue to use this service. It takes a while at first, but after a while, you start getting at least one survey per day. There's not much more to say, it's really simple.
  21. There are certain specifications that I need on the motherboard. Mainly very small things, but nonetheless, I need them. I need at least 2 x16 PCIx slots, 2 USB headers, and 1 IEEE header. And it took me a while to find an M2 mobo to match those specs on TigerDirect. And with that said, I've found this. The Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition NVIDIA Socket AM2 ATX Motherboard. M2 socket, 2 x16 PCIx, 2 USB headers, 1 IEEE header, and as you said before: no chipset fan. And along with all that, it also seems to have its own wi-fi wireless g adapter built into it (so no wasting money, time, or space on an external adapter), along with 2 Ethernet ports. Here's the link: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  22. Thanks much Dregnought. I only plan to put 4gigs eventually. Only 1 to start though. But I'll look into the premium mobo. I didn't realize that socket 939s were going to be discontinued. Thanks again!
  23. In many cases, proxies are another word for "gateways". Once I get enough Hosting Points, the website I will have will be a proxy for kids at my school to get through the school's block. It's pretty much a way to access something without actually going to it. I could be wrong though... EDIT: Here is my proxy site. I hope this gave you a better understanding of proxies. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  24. Okay, I've started building a computer myself, and I didn't think it was necessary to start a new thread when this one was already up. But I'd like to get some suggestions and advice for my plans. I don't exactly bring in that much money, but I plan to at least have it running by the time I graduate. I'm ordering the case and the motherboard tomorrow. Here is what I plan to get: And DVD drives, floppy, zip, etc... It'll take a while, but what do you guys think? Notice from BuffaloHELP: All specs shall be listed under the QUOTE tag
  25. It is almost unbelievable how we have advanced from a black screen with text on it, to amazing graphics that are almost realistic. Screen resolutions around 2048 x 1536 seem to be standard on some of the newer graphics cards. My computer is pretty old, and its minimum resolution is still higher than 720 x 400. I'm not completely sure, but I think it is 800 x 640. I'm especially amazed with the new CrossFire technology that was developed, more commonly among PCI Express graphics cards. This is where two cards actually work together on one monitor. The two cards can either connect together inside the computer with a small chip (as long as the cards sit right next to each other) or connect together using a "Y" adapter from the outside. With this technology, one card processes one half of the screen, and the second does the other. You can even set the cards to "tile" the screen. Imagine a checker board; the black spaces are processed by one card, and the white spots the other. It is simply amazing.
