I am unsure about whether or not it will be the end of the world. I know you didn't want any religious discussions but I need to say this. Take it or leave it and I don't think it will offend anyone. 666 IS the Devil's number HOWEVER, in Christianity, Jesus resisted the Devil (Remember the story - 40 days and 40 nights in the desert?). Jesus is the only one the Devil is afraid of, and Jesus died for US. To save our souls. Why would the Devil suddenly have so much power he can end the world? Yeah, so that is my present opinion, however we will not know until the day. I am unsure about the future, but I am optimistic. Not skeptical, just optimistic.
