I've been trying to install a server on my Mankdrake 10 linux distro machine, but it has failed. I followed a book, I followed several "install mysql" tutorial stuff and it doesn't seem to work.I am new to linux and I have never had even an RPM work on this computer. Its not a slow computer, but it runs a 1.7g Intel Celeron, 300+ Ram (256 + 128), built in graphics and sound - sound doesn't work, and screensavers are slow as hell. I think the os has lots a problems with the hardware (duh), and I'm not sure where to get drives (not that ill be able to use them because I cant install/do anything). I have many linux books which seem not to help at all (except maybe my Redhat book...)I downloaded the right link but it is mysql-4.1.7.tar.gz.tarNow of couse there are many steps to get a server running. I have downloaded httpd-2.0.52.tar.gz (apache) and php-4.3.9.tar.gz.tar (php), but according to my book it says to install mysql first.Can someone please tell me how to make these stupid things work. I know it should be easy, but it doesn't work for me.By The Way, the only console command I have memorized is su root...because its usefull and I know you have to have root permissions to install anything.One last thing - I swear there is a bug in Quanta Plus -> if you type in "<?php" it crashes and displays some horrid message

I have a problem with an image that I have been working on for a while. I've tried my best to use the right terms, so hopefully someone can help me out.There is 2 layers, lets say "Layer "A" and "Layer B". Layer B is my background, a picture of a fence, and it fills the page. Layer A is at the front and is a picture of Hulk Hogan. I want to blend Layer A so that it appears to fade into Layer B, but I want it to fade as a gradient (linear). That is to say, I want Layer A to be opaque at the left side and Transparent at the right side.I am using Photoshop 8/CS and I am quite new to it, so please be specific in what menus to use etc. Any help appriciated.

When ever I go on the internet and say for example I typed in games on google whenever i click on a link nothing will happen. Or if I look for a link on this site and click it nothing will happen (it won't freeze just nothing will happen) or it might say page can't be displayed. I went to internet options and looked and the restricted site zone and changed it to medium a pop up came and said that the recomended site level was high and it changed back to high.The only time i can get to a site is if I put the link in the address bar and still somethings on the site are not shown and the information bar asks me what i want to do.Does anyone know what is causeing this and if so how to fix it.

Since the topic "What's better for my site - a domain used for branding or a domain for SEO? " has been debated time & time again when it comes to SEO, I ask for opinions on this:Why can't you just have 2 versions of the domain? First - develop the site based on the SEO-friendly domain. Then buy a branding-friendly version of the domain and do a 301 redirect on it to the SEO-friendly version. This should not produce duplicate content or trigger any type of penalty, and will give you the freedom to use your branding-friendly version of the domain in print media, word of mouth, write on the bathroom wall, etc...So whats your thoughts on this?

Ok. so i had the internet explorer exploit thing that would give me like twenty pop ups when i used IE. So i tried to get rid of it. Theres like twenty things that nortons cant erase. Adaware helps and i had spybot but its f'd up now, And i have the demo of zone alarm. well the symantec (nortons) site would tell you how to go into the registry to erease certain keys and stuff associated with the spy stuff, but i didnt see the keys for the first few i tried so gave up thinking that maybe they were already deleted or something. i dont know exactly when it started but recently afterwards, now when i go to a site through aol...i guess it automatically uses IE, right, but it will take forever to load a page if it ever loads. So i got netscape which works well...but now after i logoff of aol(my only isp), when i go to log on later, its like i cant browse in netscape. it can never find any pages or links, like aol is not even connected, though it is. The thing is that i have to restart the comp, and once i do this it always works fine afterwards but only for one log on. once i log off and come back it never works until i restart. Whats going on? I'm on the verge of erasing and rebooting my whole comp because its really getting on my nerves. fifty percent or more of my reasons for getting a comp are internet related. I also downloaded the latest service pack i guess for windows xp. Anyone have any ideas or help? I think there should be serious legislature for this ad and spy ware shlt.
