  1. I've been trying to install a server on my Mankdrake 10 linux distro machine, but it has failed. I followed a book, I followed several "install mysql" tutorial stuff and it doesn't seem to work.I am new to linux and I have never had even an RPM work on this computer. Its not a slow computer, but it runs a 1.7g Intel Celeron, 300+ Ram (256 + 128), built in graphics and sound - sound doesn't work, and screensavers are slow as hell. I think the os has lots a problems with the hardware (duh), and I'm not sure where to get drives (not that ill be able to use them because I cant install/do anything). I have many linux books which seem not to help at all (except maybe my Redhat book...)I downloaded the right link but it is mysql-4.1.7.tar.gz.tarNow of couse there are many steps to get a server running. I have downloaded httpd-2.0.52.tar.gz (apache) and php-4.3.9.tar.gz.tar (php), but according to my book it says to install mysql first.Can someone please tell me how to make these stupid things work. I know it should be easy, but it doesn't work for me.By The Way, the only console command I have memorized is su root...because its usefull and I know you have to have root permissions to install anything.One last thing - I swear there is a bug in Quanta Plus -> if you type in "<?php" it crashes and displays some horrid message
  2. just installed the new driver for my radeon 9600 256mb and when i play quake, my pc freezes after about 5 seconds if i ahve it on optimal performance and if its equal performance/quality i get like 40-60 fps and usually i have it capped at 125 and its always between 110-125, but this dumbass update ruined it. i thought it might be my tweaking utility so i uninstalled it, same thing as before. im doing a bunch of checks with spyware, registry errors and antivirus, but so far nothing is working. something similiar is happening also when i use winamp the screen goes black and wont turn back on, but my music still plays and goes to the next track. wtfux anyone help?maybe it is because i dont have sp2 yet, but i hear mixed results from it. is it really worth getting, with the risk of an even worse pc?

  4. Ok, I don't know if any of you can help, but its worth a shot.Over the past few weeks, any time my friend downloads something over 2megs a part of the download corrupts.It used to happen to him alot when downloading anything over 500megs, we thought it had something todo with his ram.But like, now, we have no clue what the hell is going on.Hes on a 256kbps DSL Connection. I know I left things out, just ask and Ill answer. Any help would be greatly apprieaceated. Thanks.
  5. I think the thought of disks that can hold 50GB (both sides) is pretty awsome! I mean espcecially for the fact that if/when the PS3 comes out Sony would probably make a "BD-ROM" with "900" of your favorite games from the PS2... cause one only one side of a blue-ray disks you will have 25GB!!! and on the other side the exact same thing... and what is going to make these blue-ray disks even better is that (of what I have heard) they are totally scratch proof!!!!! and also a good advantage when these will come out is the fact that instead of backing up just what u want.... u could copy just ur entirre HD! now that would be awsome! and what else will make this really cool is that it will write at the speed of 2X which for the blue-ray disks is like 9MB a second!!!!! here are a couple of links if ur really, really, interested! http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://www.afterdawn.com/news/article.cfm/2004/04/02/ps3_supports_the_blu-ray_format http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/editorialdec2003_16.html http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  6. With another webcam problem. Now, this time the computer isn't detecting the webcam. That doesn't seem that complicated right but I've tried everything. I've tried reinstalling and updating the drivers about a million times, I've reinstalled the software, I've plugged and unplugged the webcam, I've tried just about everything but nothing seems to work. My BIOS settings are fine, my USB port is working fine and even the Device Manager tells me that the hardware is working fine. I've run out of options. What could I do?
  7. What is invalid in this CSS that hinders it to show up the edge effect (ripped papper like on left & right side) in Mozilla FireFox Where as Internet Explorer shows it out perfectly.... Problematic URL: http://ajaysekher.net/ This is a CSS effect made by casecading a picture repeatedly in Y axis in the background of a column.... I am attaching the Screenshot of it showing the edges perfectly in IE also the CSS code used for that effect. Astonishingly the CSS and the XHTML code is said to be valid by W3.ORG..... Adding the validation result URLs too.... Can any one figure out the reason for cross browser incompatibility in this code.... CSS CODE: .shadowleft { background-attachment: fixed; background-image: url('edge_left.gif'); background-repeat: repeat-y; background-position: right top; } .shadowright { background-attachment: fixed; background-image: url('edge_right.gif'); background-repeat: repeat-y; background-position: left top; }

    Halo 2

    Wow, that is all I can say about this game. Some of the single player maps were ok, but in the long run the game is not it's cracked up to be. The only decent part about Halo 2 is the online play. Even then I prefer BG from Halo 1 over any map, it was a dumb thing to not bring it back. It was the most popular map! But I dont think Halo 2 was worth my $60. The campain maps are to repetetive and playing as an Elite sucks nuts. I would not recomend buying this game without renting it first.

    Easyphp

    Hey, I am using a program on my PC called 'EasyPHP'. I needed it to convert my board from one system to another, which I am still trying to do. In EasyPHP, everything seems to be on, Apache, MySQL, PHP, and PhpMyAdmin. The only issue is when I make my database via PhpMyAdmin and try to use that database, it says it couldn't connect. And I am wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this program and could help me out?
