  1. *Cough*... Xisto... *cough*... =pXisto is currently in the beta stage of offering free domains for a mere 250 credits (but you have to have at least 280 to even attempt it). You will need a host first... which is also provided by Xisto with 30 credits. See the main forum page for more details.
  2. It's hard (and sad now) to believe that people are running XP with less than 512MB of RAM. I'm so glad I upgraded from 1GB to 2GB. Nowadays, I would think that 2GB would be typically great for most users, with 4GB on the gaming horizon. But a BROWSER shouldn't be taking up, let's say, 100MB of RAM for 9 tabs (FF). Or 34MB just with one window (IE).
  3. Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana. How about Illusion of Gaia? We're slacking, people.
  4. No one has come up with an actual fix for the memory and CPU usage, though. There is the memory leak trick with about:config, but it only takes effect when you minimize the browser. - For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about when I mention the memory leak tweak: 1.) Type in about:config into your address bar and press Enter. 2.) Right-click anywhere in the window and select New > Boolean. 3.) Enter config.trim_on_minimize and press OK. 4.) Set the value to True and press OK. You can also set how much RAM you allocate to FF: 1.) Type in about:config into your address bar and press Enter. 2.) Right-click anywhere in the window and select New > Integer. 3.) Enter browser.cache.memory.capacity and press OK. 4.) Set the value to whatever you want and press OK. Make sure that the number is a power of 2 - like 16MB would be 16384 - and that you don't set too high of a value, or there's no point in doing this. Too low of a value will probably have FF crawl.
  5. This was almost confusing. To clarify as far as I understand, you need to actually have a host first (which is where the 30 credits come in). After you have your host, you spend 250 credits to obtain your domain name, which is basically the DNS address you type into your address bar that redirects you to your page. So you could really have 310 credits, spend 30 to host (or even using another host), then 250 for the domain to redirect to your hosted page. Did I understand that right? Also, out of curiosity, when you register for a domain, and someone inputs that address and goes to that domain, does it show as http://www.mydomain.com/ or does it literally redirect you to let's say https://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/;? Will your following pages look like http://myDomain.com/main.htm and http://myDomain.com/anothersection/index.htmor will they actually retain their URL?
  6. Pennystocks are VERY risky. I don't really suggest playing around with them...But if it's a robot taking care of analysis and provides sound advice, how is it doing it?Is it analyzing stock news 24/7? Does it look for trends? How does it work?
  7. Ugh. This has so much potential for being fishy, however awful that reality may be.Maybe he really does have a genuine interest in you... I hope that's the case. However, the whole fact that he's here on a work permit kind of raises a red flag. He COULD be using you to become a permanent resident, OR he could have a relationship that has an inevitable end to it... and I hate saying it, but it could be a potential for a hit-and-run, if you catch my drift.I would suggest that you just politely deny his attempts for a relationship and wait until he does establish residency. That would take out the possible red flags we've come up with... and you'll see that he does have a bona fide interest in you and not what you can do for him.
  8. This is kind of dependent on the people that you deal with, but since I'm too forgiving and a pushover, I would have to say that you should tell her what you know and maybe you guys can work things out.If she really is being unfaithful, it will be very hurtful, but you would know what to do then. That's the risk you will have to take if you choose C.P.S. Your post was rather confusing because I didn't know if you were talking about yourself or your friend in relation to who had a girlfriend. I'm assuming she's yours.
  9. Clicky It was interesting to read. We all know about the heavy memory usage that FF takes up, but over 2 YEARS no one has made an attempt to fix it. Someone points out too that the bug isn't limited to RAM, but the bug even bogs down the CPU. I suppose that this would be a real issue for people with slower computers, but with high usage rates of the CPU just for browsing multiple tabs, the life of the hardware is at stake. The reason why it's being stated as the most unstable browser is that apparently with the high CPU usage Windows can't cope and crashes FF. I have never personally experience FF crashing because of this (sometimes I have TWO windows open with 4-8 tabs each), but I HAVE experienced crashing at one site: TorrentFinder. What happens is that there seems to be an ad or something on a randomized timer that causes FF to bug out and shut it down unexpectantly... the whole program goes kaput without any warning or any dialogs asking you if you're sure that you want to close multiple tabs. On restart, it treats it like a crash. Anyone else experience this crash or frequent crashing of FF?
  10. Isn't this a possibly-self-incriminating thread? Just remember for those of you with pirated copies: If you get caught, you are charged a fee per day per installation from the DAY the operating system originated, not the moment that you start to use the illegal copy.Or at least that's what I learned in my computer applications class.
  11. Disclaimer: This is all out of opinion based on what I've heard, learned, and read about the phone. I don't have one myself and I don't plan on buying one. Ever. The iPhone is an overrated, overpriced, and shoddy piece of equipment slapped with the i legacy and the cultured trend that goes along with it. With its initial price tag of $600, it's one very expensive paperweight. Even with the recent price drop, it's still out of the affordable reach of most consumers. The iPhone, in theory, is a great little gadget to have. Who wouldn't want to do everything that you can do with a laptop and a cell phone, all contained into one little device that fits in the palm of your hand?It is very neat, in theory, that along with this, it looks sleek, shiny, and sexy, as far as technology goes. It features a touchscreen that requires no stylus, relying on touch. It features a 2.0MP camera, multimedia capability, but cannot record video. It is Internet-accessible and also is equipped with Wi-Fi.Yay. Now I get to rip it apart. The screen is made of glass. Which means you can scratch it very easily. (I hear differently, but then again, I don't know if people mean that it doesn't GOUGE easily, or if it actually IS scratch-resistant - as in not being able to make miniscule scratches that you can see easily when putting the surface up to a light.)The touch screen relies on warmth from the skin. Which leads to frustration in the wintertime. You have to buy an adapter to use some headphones with it.The network protocol the iPhone uses is the lesser EDGE band by AT&T, a step lower than the 3G (the fastest network available by AT&T). Which means that Internet usage will be slow at best. And although Wi-Fi may be faster, who wants to pay $10 per day use for WiFi HotSpots at Starbucks or airports? Every time?It doesn't support instant messaging. There's no keyboard for it anyway, so IMs won't be a huge loss. And typing on a touchscreen is going to be a *BLEEP*... it's already a pain with Blackberries, but at least we all know the QWERTY layout and can "thumb" it.The plans are horrifically exorbitant, starting at $60/mo up to $100/mo, the latter allowing unlimited minutes and limited SMS.The battery is literally built-in. As in Apple didn't think that you would ever need to replace the battery. Ever.Should I keep going?Bottom line is, it's the new thing and everyone's going to jump into the pool. But people should take a second look and realize that the pool is very shallow, because the iPhone is going to make a really bad run for your money.$600 for the 8GB variant + [$60 monthly plan (which is the cheapest) x 2 yr contract (minimum)] = $2040My phone right now, not being cheap itself: Motorola i580 w/ Nextel$300 for the phone + [$45/mo x 2 yr contract] = $1380And my plan already has unlimited nights and weekends, which for the iPhone the $80/mo plan offers unlimited nights and weekends. That would bring it up to $2520. And my phone already does everything the iPhone does.Hrm...
  12. Hahaha...It's sad to know that most marriages don't last (hence the wicked-high divorce rate) but to make it so that marriage has an expiration date? That's like knowing that you'll be legally home-free every 7 years. What the hell happened to "... till death do us part?" Will it be "... till the contract ends, which from this moment forth will be seven years from this day, at this hour, anywhere and everywhere, do we part."? She's either very stupid, looking at it from a unique (business) perspective, or doing this as a publicity stunt. How the hell do you accuse a CHURCH of instilling principles that "arent' true to life?" It's by individual, lady. Not everyone is faithful, giving, loving, and selfless.
  13. I do like the idea of paid posting, but at the same time I agree about retarded posts and one-liners. We already have that here (where people post repeated opinions, respond to OP about a question that's already been resolved but they don't know because they don't read the entire thread, etc... some things which even I'm guilty of). I post to put out my opinion and to help others out, and it's a bonus that maybe one of these days I'll use those hosting credits for something. The payout is of course going to be either laughable or meager... no one is willing to pay a ton of money for posting. Then again, it's $5 more than what you had before. It would be awesome if you could sell your hosting credits here... that way you'd have an option to cash out or use the hosting service. (Of course, the cash-out option would be less valued compared to actually using the hosting service.)
  14. I could probably do it.I usually am rather nit-picky with games anyway and like to review things for the benefit of others, since I usually read reviews from like-minded gamers to determine whether it's worth the $50 for that new video game or not.It would be an all-right job, just because of the fact that not every game that you will test will be something you'd be interested in. This is how we come up with "bad" games...
  15. I like to try things every now and then.I usually sleep in my clothes, sans my accessories (Leatherman, belt, cell phone, wallet, keys, etc.) unless I was too lazy or forgetful to take them off. If it's hot enough, I'll go down to boxers, but I haven't slept naked before.Won't be trying that soon... winter's coming.
  16. One good thing that has come out of this thread is there haven't been any OMGZ! I WANNA BE MODZ ITLL B SO KICKARSE LOL!!!1! posts, and I think that it might be a good idea that if you want to volunteer yourself to be a moderator, you can post your request here. Of course, admin is not going to look at new members at all, and be skeptical about each person even wanting to be a moderator. Why would anyone WANT responsibility? Hell, I would think it would be nice to be a moderator once in a while just because of posts that I see that are questionable, but then again, it's just as easy for me to just report it. It's that inner urge to nab a little bit of power, no matter how little, that probably makes us want to be moderators instead of actually wanting to do it to make a real difference. But that's what I think anyway.
  17. I agree and disagree.Homework is just another frustrating thing to do during the day because it eats up a lot of time, seems pointless, and we just don't want to do it because we're America and we're lazy. But there is a point to homework. Homework is great in showing that you do know and understand the material. It provokes thinking and keeps you on your toes. It's a great way to apply and practice what you just went over, and with the more problems and exercises (or papers) that you do/write, the better of an understanding and a knack you will have for the concept(s).
  18. Well, I tried to describe what a CMOS and CCD processor was and how they worked, because reading it off of Wiki and HSW was way too confusing. What you described is a dead-basic camera... the camera obscura. Ironic how we can still find that to be wicked cool to accomplish when we have and take for granted 35mm, digital, SLR, and other camera technologies.
  19. This game looked great not because of the story, but because of the side humor that develops with the constant bickering between the characters.Kind of realistic, really... army guys give each other *BLEEP* all the time.
  20. A clear answer to this would be awesome.I experienced this on a fairly-fresh install of Windows XP Professional SP2. Sometimes the OS would boot up and immediate Windows Explorer tells you that it will shut down Explorer to prevent harm to your computer. (I took a screenshot because of the irony.) When Explorer shuts down, Dr. Watson tries to save the day by diagnosing but it too crashes. After that, you're asked to send an error report (if you have that enabled). It's so retarded...The problem does scream out Microsoft, since we all know how horridly-programmed Windows is. Be glad that you're working with XP, as XP Professional SP2 is the best and most stable Windows OS today, IMO. I wonder if this happens in Vista. And if it does, it won't surprise me.
  21. It's amazing how we're so spoiled with eye candy. With the advent of DirectX10, I almost expect no less than extraordinary use of rendering engines and stellar graphical improvements. The "next-gen" consoles (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii) do not support DirectX10, but with games like Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3), Metroid Prime: Corruption (Wii), Gears of War (360), and the upcoming Halo 3 (360), it looks like they're making do with DirectX 9. And a fine job, too.
  22. Wow. The subject of this thread should be changed, because spelling words correctly, as well as providing proper grammar, is rather vital today. People that butcher the English language, especially online, put out an impression... and you know how well first impressions last.It drives me crazy how people type things out nowadays. Somehow, 1337 is in, texting on cell phones has made it out to the WWW, and no one believes in punctuation anymore. The study was made to prove what the brain can do. Honestly, the other post confused the crap out of me with some words, simply because I wasn't used to seeing them formed that way. Like "filas" (fails). It doesn't make spelling unnecessary. Also, it's quite a tendency that if you type like an illiterate online, you may have difficulty typing a lab report or an essay. So practice typing well, grammatically, and free of spelling errors.
  23. I'm VERY surprised that no one mentioned the Commodore 64.Although it was more of a computer than a console. (Oh, and that was my first.)
  24. What I figure...Cheating beings right off the back as soon as you develop feelings for another person other than your significant other. It IS the first step towards infidelity, no? Flirting back and forth is okay... just because it really can be fun, but as soon as you start falling for the other person, I would think that it would be cheating in my book.Of course, it's much harder to tell if someone was cheating by that definition. I am unfortunately a jealous dude and very overprotective thanks to experiences with previous girlfriends in the past, so even casual flirting will make me suspicious at the very least. I've been better, though.
  25. I need to get around to making an introduction... Welcome to Xisto, Amy. If you forum frequently and like the hosting feature, I'm sure you'll love being a part of Xisto.
