  1. Depends how much network control you have, places like schools can send out stuff (my college sends out virus patches very often), otherwise it'd be a case of a batch file or a googled specific helper, on a usb drive to each machine. The only way I can think of files replacing themselves is through prefetch, though I can't remember the exact name of this Windows File Protection thingy, it works on things like notepad.

  2. No boot disc

Old Computer in need of a new OS

Well I have an old AMI comp and want to format the hard drive, BUT the cd rom works but the comp wont detect it even though it is set to detect it. I have no boot disc and no way of making a system boot disc cause the Dell comp I have has no Floppy Drive. I can Install one but don't have the money to buy one right now. So pretty much I can't do anything on this old comp unless someone can help me figure out what to do and give me some suggestions.

Install from usb or network, or just bin the computer.

Xubuntu is a lightweight Ubuntu flavour.

  3. The professional didn't know much really, scandisk failed twice so he took it away to try.If he re-installs windows, I'd keep the registery really clean. I've found with a lot of programs that I can install them, move the file, then uninstall them. Is this right to do for keeping registery clean and still letting the programs run? As far as I know, only things like Opera for http protocol, msn for msn, etc, need to be "attached" in that way, can everything else be "detached"?Also, you mentioned restoring a reg file, what registery backup programs make a reg file?
