Watching Hamtaro, working on computers, programming, website designing (this one should be obvious).
  1. I went for a while without any type of spyware/adware/virus scanner on my system, and once I finally installed a spyware and adware scanner, it found a TON. I didn't even realize they were on there. They didn't cause any sort of performance loss, so I couldn't tell they were on there. It found over 100. I haven't gotten any viruses yet, thankfully (however, I am now no longer using Windows). I would probably bet that it's just luck. However, that's only IF you don't have any. I would actually get something for it, you never really know what will happen to it in the future.
  2. Do you have any other settings in your .htaccess file? If you don't, One thing that you could do, is check the AllowOverride directive in your httpd.conf file. If you set it to "AllowOverride All" that should work. However, it has been so long so I've used httpd.conf, that I've forgotten. If you do have other settings in it, then I have no idea what's wrong. If you do add it to httpd.conf, you will need to restart the server.
  3. I know you mentioned that you hadn't messed with the file, but I may have found the error. I belive it could also cause it to say unexpected $ as well. Line 106 does contain the error. Here's a portion of the code: // Get some settings $_output[\'register_users\'] = $SkaLinks->GetParam( \'register_users\' ); ?>'; <--this is the error, and is line 106 fwrite( $f, $content ); fclose; // Mysql dump installationThe error is that there is an unneeded "?>';" in it. The revised code is below: // Get some settings $_output[\'register_users\'] = $SkaLinks->GetParam( \'register_users\' ); fwrite( $f, $content ); fclose; // Mysql dump installation That's the only error I noticed right away. The rest of the file may contain more errors (but I'm not sure). Anyway, try to remove that, and see if it helps any.
  4. You sure are going through a lot. I've also gone through a lot just this year. Life is a pain, but it can also be great (I've learned this many times), I know that it's tough to go through all of that, but it will more than likely be best to just hang in there. At least you have a good paying job. It may take some time, but eventially, everything will be better for you.
  5. I have a huge problem at my school, too. They've blocked sites for stupid reasons. Here's just a few sites:Google Image Search (the rest of google works fine)Wikipedia (I had no idea HOW STUPID the people at my school were, until I found out this was blocked)Sites that contain the word "chat" in the URL (I understand this one perfectly)Sites that contain either "proxy bypass" or "proxybypass" in their URL (I also understand this one)There's much more than that. I can't access Slashdot, Sourceforge, and many other places. It gets on my nerves. However, I do use some proxy byass sites (like stupid censorship). No matter what my school does, someone will more than likely find a way around it. It does make me really mad about some of those sites (like I use Google Image Search for school projects). Anyway, at least I know that my school isn't the only one blocking sites that are actually good.
  6. I think that error means that the script unexpectedly ended (for example, forgetting a } for an if, else, etc. I think it could even be caused by forgetting the close ?> on the script, but I'm not sure). Maybe you should check the code there. However, if it was working a few days ago, that may not be the problem. One last thing: You mentioned it was affecting a lot of your scripts. Are there any scripts you can run that don't have an if, else/elseif, while, or anything else that uses { and }? Sorry, but that's as much as I can help with.
  7. I'm not that great with Linux, but it sounds like you should change the owner of the file. As root, you should issue the command: chown user musicWhere "user" is your user name. You may also have to go through the files in the folder as well. The way to change all the files in your music folder (assuming you have no other folders), would be: chown user music/*That would change all the files' owners in the music folder to the username "user." Well, I hope I helped you with your problem.
  8. My school used to not have very many restrictions on paper (plus, the teachers have used the paper wisely). However, now my school has a paper shortage. Now, they can barely even print from their own computers because of it. With as much money as the schools make from taxes, you'd think it wouldn't be as big of an issue. Another thing, most people in my school place the paper they don't need in the recycling bins. I never realized that schools waste paper so much. I wish other people (including those not in school), would realize just how much they are wasting when they use it for things that aren't extremely important.
  9. I'll pretty much use multiple media players. However, if it's just music that I want to listen to, I use XMMS (X Multimedia System) for Linux. If I want to watch videos, I use the Totem Movie Player or RealPlayer. However, I am unfamiliar with most Linux media players (so I'm limited).
  10. To me, Google seems to index sites very strangely. Also, my site wound up in Google somehow (I guess I had some external links somewhere). It's hard just to get a decent PageRank. Anyway, it probably does take it a while to add it. Just be patient, as everyone said, and then it may show up.
  11. I don't have a banner (nor am I good at making one), but I still think that's a good idea. I know I'd put it on my site (regardless of whether I submit anything or not). Anyway, great idea! I hope it gets more votes.
  12. If it's causing such a bad problem for legal users, they'd have to release a patch to fix that patch (sorta strange to me). It's mistakes like that which make me happy to not use Windows anymore at home. It's also funny how it messed up like it does. Microsoft can try as hard as possible to prevent pirated copies, but it won't help much. There will still be many more pirated copies out. Piracy is just about the hardest thing to fight, no matter what company it involves.
  13. I actually know for a fact that mod_rewrite is enabled for the free hosting, because WordPress uses it for permalinks, and I had a WordPress blog for a while. In the .htaccess file, were many RewriteRules! I don't really know exactly what all used with it would work (I guess everything would), as I don't know much about that particular module. Also, Xisto has many more features that most others do not have.
  14. I can't say very much about other distributions, but I use Fedora Core 4 (which now, they have Fedora Core 5). It's a GUI (or you can choose to have it as a command-line version if you don't pick X Window System during installation). If you limit what you choose to install, it could fit on the 3 GB that you have. However, it seems like your best bet would be a smaller version, like Puppy Linux, which xboxrulz suggested (I have no experience with it, though). Fedora Core isn't too hard to use, either. It installs with a GUI as well. (One note, though, is that FC4 uses 4 installation CDs, which would take a while to download). Oh, and I'm also using it on a minimal HD (6 GB total space).
  15. Normally, I don't get into politics. However, when it comes to how Bush has messed up our country, that's where I talk politics. I can't wait until he is out of office! He promises so much, yet delivers so little. Plus, he's added all this crap that he really shouldn't be allowed to do (like spying on phone conversations). Ha, I pretty much agree with that. I really wished that they didn't elect him like they did. Hopefully, he will be kicked out of office if his approval rating drops too much.
