Yeah, sorry about the ego thing.I have tried everything you suggested, and double/triple-checked that my mail settings in Outlook are correct. And they are.It has to be something to do with my connection or router or ISP or something. I can't get my laptop to send mail either. Thing is, I've never had a problem with my Exchange email - just this.Any more ideas, fire 'em at me - I'll try anything. I went through registry and edited all the MTU values I could find (2 of them) from 1300 to 1492 as per your instructions. I even created the value in one of the entries that didn't already have the MTU value.I rebooted each time and kept retrying, text and html each time. Nothing worked. Always the same thing.I set the dummy account on my Outlook at work today as well and it worked immediately - so it's definately something on this PC or to do with my connection or settings etc.I do also run a VPN to my brother's network to access mail from his Exchange server. However, I tried all the above settings with and without the VPN.Any other ideas?Thanks so far

Hi all,I'm setting up my email accounts to use remotely with Outlook and/or Thunderbird. I have been able to set up my accounts to pull emails down from the server with both POP3 and IMAP. However, I'm not having any luck sending mail.I have tried multiple settings but can't figure it out. Outgoing mail server is set to "mail.[domain-name].com", port 25. I am using the same username/password details as for logging in to check mail - that being the email address and password that I have set up in cpanel for the particular email address I wanted. I am not using SPA.Any help would be much appreciated.Thanks.

hi m^e,I've signed up for 1 year of hosting with Xisto - Web Hosting! They seem really cool for so cheap, heaps of features etc, awesome!Anyway, I've had a look at the mailing list option in cpanel and it's driven by Mailman. It doesn't appear to be what I'm after. It's more of a digest manager ... like a list that people can send stuff to the whole list. I'm more after something that will manage people joining MY list, with ME being the only one able to send messages. It's going to be like a newsletter/e-Zine thing ... subscription style ... monthly mail-out etc.Any other ideas? I could just use the clone-formmail to collect email addresses and add them manually to an outlook mailing list, but I was hoping for something a little more automated. Am sure it's possible, as there are HEAPS of these style things used on the net.Any other ideas? Thanks!Rog

I personally quite like Win XP. I agree it can be a pain when trying to run older DOS based games since XP doesn't have true DOS anymore, but there are ways around it. Setting the compatability doesn't work 99% of the time, but if you still have the install disks for an older version of Windows, why not set up dual boot?The features in XP definately outperform any previous version of Windows, and the fact that Microsoft only keep patches coming out for the later systems, I think it's important to keep up to date. There are huge amounts of improvement required, especially when it comes to security. But let's face it, if you want absolute security ... use Linux or buy a Mac.I hate Microsoft too ... but at the end of the day, nothing comes close to competing.

Thanks for the great replies. I'll look into Filezilla, but I think I'm happy with WS_FTP for now. There's not much I need other than to upload files to my website, so I guess anything would do really. I should check out those freeware clients.Thanks for the tips.

I'm not a big forum user usually and think I'd find it hard to keep my points up to host here. Although I'm looking at https://xisto.com/ which is an affiliate I believe and also provides cpanel to it's paying users. I mean, it's dirt cheap and provides most of the stuff I want.Speaking of features though ... do you know if they support SSI? I can't see why they wouldn't since they support pretty much everything else and SSI seems to be fairly standard these days.But back to the mailing lists, I'll look into that feature when I get to host either here for free or with Xisto - Web Hosting. And I'll also look into Majordomo just for interests sake.Your comments are very much appreciated.Roger

Sounds good.Thanks for your reply. I have used WSFTP for as long as I can remember using an FTP client ... pretty much since I outgrew Frontpage and Tripod. I guess I've just never been bothered to try anything else since it's worked so well for me for so long, but it's good to get other people's opinions also. I'm glad I'm not the only one using this product and I think I'll be happy to continue using it.And it's actually easier now for me than it used to be back when I used ICQ. Being that they use the same sound - I always got excited when I thought I'd got a message on ICQ when really I had just mispelled my password.Oh well, thanks for the reply. Have you set up the wireless settings on the router?Do you know if the laptop connects to the wireless adapter?What O/S?We need to identify at what stage the process is failing, as there are a number of small parts that could be going wrong.You will need to ensure that your wireless settings are correct. If you have enabled a WEP encryption key (recommended or else anyone with a wireless laptop around your area could get into your system), you need to make sure that the wireless network connection on your laptop is set up to use that key.Have a look at your network connections on your laptop. There may be an icon for this in the system tray, else try the control panel. There will probably be a couple of options, such as Local Area Connection, Wireless Network Connection, possibly a connection for AOL depending on how it is set up on your laptop etc.If the Wireless is already connected, make sure that you are sharing files on your main PC that you want to view with your laptop.Another thought, what O/S are you using? Windows XP SP2 enables Windows Firewall by default and will disrupt network communications unless file sharing is added to the 'exceptions' list of the firewall. Either that or you could disable the firewall completely, but that's probably not recommended for security reasons.I have used D-Link routers before and they are very easy to set up - just a matter of finding out what's failing.Keep in touch,Roger

hi all,this is my first time at this forum and I see a lot of people here know what they're on about, so I thought I'd ask some questions that I've been trying to figure out lately.I'm trying to put my own website together and would like to eventually produce a free e-Zine/newsletter to send out to visitors. Of course, I need a way for my visitors to sign up to the mailing list.Does anyone know of any good (hopefully free) software that will allow me to put a single text line form on my site and have users submit their email address to be automatically added?
