  1. On Mac my choice is Transmit - the best FTP software IMHO.On Linux, I just use Dolphin to access the remote FTP server as if it is some local directory.
  2. 1) Uhm, I'm sorry to be that guy... but it's 'Vidalia'. :P2) Tor is pretty slow, to say. Also note that you need a chain of >1 Tor nodes if you want to get anonymous.
  3. I am not sure that's the case here, but some webhosts have a configuration where localhost does not work for a database host. In some weird cases even changing it to 127.0.0.1 which is basically the same worked.I wonder how it's sorted out here at Xisto though.
  4. Thanks, I didn't think of using a converter actually. Now the problem is finding it at my country, where such things are rare to come by.
  5. Blargh, Byethost is terrible.I hate how every one of their users get only a tiny tiny part of what they can offer. Also, a lot of ads.Cannot really understand why it's so popular. I didn't try hosting at Xisto here yet (no myCENTs), but judging the reviews I can say I already start to like it more.
  6. Linux guys don't need AVs. :PBut if needed to scan a computer of someone in my homenet, I'm using ClamAV. The best antivirus in my opinion as it is free, open-source and cross-platform.
  7. My primary computer is actually a server.Specs following.Motherboard: Intel S3000AHV (IntelĀ® 3000 Server Chipset)CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600RAM: Samsung 1GBx2 DDR2Graphics: ATI ES1000 (I know it's junk, but I rarely play games)Audio: Audigy SoundBlaster SBHDD: Seagate 80GB SATA, Seagate 250GB SATAMonitor: DELL 2209WAA Logitech UltraX Optical mouse + Logitech UltraX Premium Keyboard
  8. Maybe the plugin needs some feature the host does not have. Read the description of the plugin carefully. Also, can you show me the plugin and the host?
  9. If the fan runs for a second and the computer does not boot, it's certainly a loose CPU (not inserted properly) or a faulty motherboard/short circuit. Be sure to check the socket and wires if you have the problem. If it runs for a while and continues booting as normal, it's nothing dangerous. It will come back on later if needed. I'd advise you to still keep an eye on your temperature though.
  10. Oh, I enjoy Mythbusters very much. A luck it's on everyday at the TV here.I especially seem to like the high-voltage experiments for some reason. Maybe just the cool-looking sparks. :PI also watch Brainiac, though not as frequently as I do watch Mythbusters.P.S.: Like that kind of shows, would be very grateful if someone could tell me some other good ones.
  11. I've heard rumors of people managing to get their x16 PCI Express graphics cards to work in a PCI Express x8 bus.Though also seen people complaining about glitches or slowdowns when doing so.As I have a motherboard with only an x4 and an x8 slots and I have a working x16 card lying around just waiting for it's time I am wondering about:1) if it will actually work2) what is the best way to fit it in3) are the benefits worthyAny help will be much appreciated. :PIf anything, the motherboard is the Intel entry-level S3000AHV serverboard.
  12. The best way to build your own distro is Linux From Scratch. :PA bit hardcore though, and requires a lot of time to get started.
  13. Why isn't Gentoo included in such posts? :PI use it and love it. Works like a charm, even though not very suitable for new users. My workspace is Gentoo + KDE4.Already tried a lot of other distros, Ubuntu is too 'user-friendly' for me, I like messing with the shell and such. Mint is actually like Debian. Pretty fast. Also tried RHEL - rock-solid and very stable (you get what you pay for), but way too hardened for me. CentOS seems like a good free replacement, didn't notice any major differences really.I must say, I tried a lot of distros, just in a bit of hurry now so don't have the time to explain.
  14. Something around 40 seconds to get me to the password prompt.Using Gentoo Linux on somewhat a server box (Intel S3000AHV + Intel Core 2 Duo E6600).
