  1. Yes exactly. There is some info about this on google, but before giving you a link i will give my own explanation. I think the place you change the drives functioning mode is next to the data cable (the one which is 5 cm wide), which is next to the powercable. that is on my dvd ide drive i have a powercable most to the right, next to that i have the data cable / ide cable. And next to that i have the place i change the functioning mode. Should be the same for you. The picture here also shows another way: http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/img/16837_hard-disk.gif. You can change the functioning mode there in many ways. On your motherboard you probably have two places where you can insert an ide data cable of the 5 cm size... the one on the left on the mobo is usually the primary and the one on the right is the secondary (might be different though, but doesn't matter so much, I will explain more later). Now from the picture i sent you, you can see the place called jumper pins. That is what you can try to adjust. on the picture in the jumber area section there is a white thing most to the right. By changing its position you change whether it is adjusted to primary or secondary cable. Also you can adjust whethere it is master or slave. the first connection place after connecting the cable to the mobo is the master, and the last is the slave. so you basically have to options. try moving the jumper (the white little thing, use your nails!) around in different vertical positions or read the instruction on your harddisk which is similar to the instruction on the middle right of the link i sent you. it shows how to set the jumber in accord with whether you are using primary or secondary and master or slave.. have a nice time, remember things can be difficult with computers but just take it easy, you might learn something useful for a job or something like that... jobs aren't everything though are they? c you a last a little extra i didn't give you in the personal messages, something i forgot... here is a google search on changing the jumper: https://www.google.com/search?q=change+jumptf8&oe=utf8 and here is a specifik choise of the google search: http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/install-hard-drive.htm
  2. i have tested a lot of antiviruses... and all of them slow down the system. I use nod32 because you can manually adjust the settings for the program. fx i have set nod32 to only scan internet traffic. and in case i download som files i just enable the local scanning until im sure that the new files on my computer contain no viruses.
  3. try avg, or try an online scanner... avg is free but avg is also one of the best scanners out there...
  4. feed back, you might be thinking about pharaoh: http://www.gamerankings.com/pc/198289-pharaoh/index.html the game fits what you describe... and is a kind of follow up to the games you mention... what concerns strategy games Starcraft is probably the most famous ever and is still quite played this day. It has good story, good music and good race balance. That is it is almost impossible to say which of the three races is the best. also if you want never strategy games there is company of heroes which is nice enough and world in conflict which is a little less nice
  5. according to what everyone says, photoshop cs3 should be better. i haven't really tested this myself, but i have tried photoshop cs3 and i am quite impressed with it. if anyone can explain what is so much better about photoshop they are welcome
  6. I am a quite satisfied Microsoft user. Office 2007 for example is very nice too look at compared to 2003 I think. Also I have tried openoffice which is great because it is free. It doesn't have quite as nice an appearance though, and it opens ms office documents quite slowly. The last problem will be fixed in the future as far as I've heard because ms finally gave up some of their coding for the other companies to use. And yes it is nice that office 2007 works as nice for xp as for vista, and even greater that it uses the same amount of memory for me with a 256 MB Ram laptop. I am furiously disabling all but the used services. and it works i would like to add. machine is running nice
  7. i think you should buy a cheap 8800 gt... this year will have a lot of new gpu's and a new generation that is. you are buying an old generation gpu... but then again that wasn't what you asked for... other people might say its a good buy you do
  8. ok before i give to many suggestions i want to make some things clear. is it a sata hd or an ide? if you don't know what that is tell me if the datacable (not the power cable) is 5 cm wide or 1 cm wide. if its 1 cm then its ata or sata and in that case it should work alright no matter how you moved it around. you might need to select it as the primary boot device now that you have moved it around. you do that in the bios or you can select it at the pre windows bootup screen.if you have an ide hd you might need to change the drives functioning mode and thats a more advanced story so write me again if it is the case that you have an ide
  9. as far as i remember dumeter can do that. but have you tried the built in function in vista computermanagementor the taskmanger in xp?
  10. sure why not, people can be afraid of anything... and i would like to add, there does not need to be a good argument to be afraid of anything... in the first place at least... an important thing is to just realize that you are afraid and then you can work further on out from that
  11. grats with the first topic,,, i look forward to wii fit and mario kart also
  12. basically there are the same problems as when xp was released... compatibility issues, lower fps in games, slower running. but with time i guess vista will be the best... i would like to say though that the appearance of vista is uglier than xp in many ways... i like the blue green instead of black
  13. it looks fine in ff here... except maybe some straight black lines are not entirely blackin ie the black lines are not there and it looks better in ie
  14. put hiren on the usb (https://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd-on-usb-disk): it contains: Disk Clone Tools ImageCenter 5.6 (Drive Image 2002) Best software to clone hard drive Norton Ghost 11.0.1 Similar to Drive Image (with usb/scsi support) Acronis True Image 8.1.945 Create an exact disk image for complete system backup and disk cloning. Partition Saving 3.50 A tool to backup/restore partitions. (SavePart.exe) COPYR.DMA Build013 A Tool for making copies of hard disks with bad sectors people who start using hiren will not stop anytime soon... it contains so many great useful utilities https://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd let me hear if anybody agrees
  15. e.g. if you have two memory modules installed try using only one in the four different positions.if that doesn't work try borrowing a graphics card. those are the two problems i have had with computers 95 % of the time. but try to explain what happened more in detail... have you changed your hardware? have you moved your computer or no change?(edit: also try reset the bios, has worked for me sometimes)
