  1. Yup didnt quite get the second ring on that red box so I'm not sure If I've even made it halfway through lol but Im trying MOTAS right now so thanx a lot buddy!
  2. I'm gonna put down the games I think are the best in a few categories of features of strategy games, and as the author of this forum specified, they're all old games -(please, warcraft II is a nightmare to run on a pentium 3, who ever got the idea its an old game??) Ancient civilizations, lots of cool battles, city building - Age of Empires 1 (really old), Age of Empires 2 :Kings/Conquerors (more features, released a couple of years later, but a cakewalk for pentium2/3 systems) Ancient civilizations, Plain old City building but still great gameplay experience - Caesar 2/ 3 (played it for the first time on a Pentium 1) Modern warfare, great gameplay experience - Command and Conquer : Red Alert & Command and Conquer : Red Alert 2 (In one word, awesome!) Others should feel free to add to this list in this format for easy comparison:)
  3. now THAT is good news. I thoroughly enjoyed Red Alert 2 and I'm hoping they've got some new ideas up their sleeves. Since I have an old computer, generals was a huge No-no for me, and so is tiberium wars. Being an age of empires buff I compared RA2 with it and found it lacking in gameplay options and inconvenient, but got the hang of it in some time. Please keep me posted if theres an RA3!
  4. Hotmail , when it was born, was an era-changing application. After Microsoft bought it, its become just another mail service. The advantage of being the first in the arena was lost when MS decided to stagnate users at 25Mb inbox space while others had already moved on beyond 100, 500, 1 Gb and gmail. And till hot mail became Windows Live, it loaded up pathetically slow compared to Gmail. Yahoo, ofcourse hasnt looked any better since the day i abandoned it for gmail, but even so, it commands a following - and a loyal one at that. Though it may have lost some of its core business to MySpace messenger, and though its interface and features pale in comparison to its nearest competitors, Yahoo is THE yahoo. It was my first email address, and most of us have that kinda nostalgia about yahoo. The point here is, Microsoft only has Google's rapid expansion to counter. All this time, Ive been hoping that yahoo! would rise to the challenge in the interests of Better Business and if Yahoo gives in and gives up now, it would be a crying shame to say the least. Microsoft buying Yahoo is bad news, because most of all its an identity issue, its like Coke buying Pepsi or McDonalds buying Burger King. Hotmail and Yahoo have competed fiercely, and not all of us have Amnesia. Brand identity goes for a toss in this takeover. Imagine your dad getting a sex-change lol and coming home to you "Son, you have two mothers." Well even if noone else feels this passsionately about the issue , I do think you guys get my point. Yahoo will barely survive this takeover as a brand, while MS can feed its bloated ego.

  6. More dirt on AirTel GPRS..In select Indian cities, it offers unlimited EDGE(Enhanced Data-rates for GPRS) for a month, while in Chennai, the only plan is the EDGE plan, the point being that its the customer's responsibilty to get a EDGE-compatible phone, and the QoS available will be dependent on the phone used to surf. Plus, as far as I know, AirTel has the only EDGE service being provided in India..or am I wrong?
  7. I have used an AirTel GPRS connection over a Nokia 6610i (Yeah, I know its old.) And Here's a few things i noticed. 1. Edit Connection Properties and you can get the connection speed to be shown at a maximum of 460.8 kbps , which is complete hogwash, because GPRS has a maximum connection speed lower than that. 2. I used Airtel in Kerala (South India) and the tariff was good enough, atleast in this part of India.Rs.250/month ($6.xx) for unlimited time and data. Though like turbopowerdmaxsteel mentioned, the speeds were barely tolerable. max download speed being 5kBps. 3. The reliability was ...like 3 days a month you wont get good connection or speed. I can live with that. Point is, who else here can? Do let me know. PS: I'd like to ask turbopowerdmaxsteel where he lives in india where they charge just Rs.99/month. I'd simply love to have that plan. NO Minus Points in my list.

    Diablo 3

I was a bit apprehensive about this, cuz this topic began in 2005, and Since WoW has been out, all talk of Diablo has been relegated to its hardest-core fans, such as myself. The storyline, in my opinion, has been truly engaging, and the death levels of Diablo 2 made "fighting though hell" literal. The pointless hack-n-slash is a sore point many have raised over the years since the first Diablo was released. The atmosphere of the game, and the in-game music, dialogue and scenarios have often surpassed other contemporaries, and Diablo has never made a huge fuss about system requirements. This post borders on becoming a higly one-sided review, but for anyone who has played, and loves Diablo...its but natural to get defensive. the point here, is Diablo 3- why and how will it work? 1. Most of Diablo's followers, having waited long enough and having upgraded their PCs in the meantime, have switched lanes to join WarCraft's hordes. in other words, blizzard can very well sit back and relax, since the target audience has been retained for most part. Diablo - 0, Others - 1 2. This is personal experience, I already have a weird feeling this is individual - Diablo games never bog your PC down too much- a general trend with Blizzard games that achieve graphical detail and sustain gameplay value without getting ur RAM all held up. Considering the expectation levels for Diablo 3's graphics, and the gaming crowd - by now, seasoned to WarCraft's multi-genre feel and resource-intensive, uncompromising graphics, and of many more MMORPGs available, the hypothetical 3rd game in the Diablo franchise will be up against some pretty mean competition, and I doubt if loyalists would like Diablo to be a re-painted clone of anything else - I wouldn't. Diablo - 0, Others - 2 Diablo 3 will have to be a richly detailed world, a better storyline to resurrect Mr. Spanish Devil, new repertoire of playable characters, possibly more NPC interaction, and yet retain the good old hack-n-slash with those fire-ice-lightning-poison elements. Tall order. 3. Lets hope Blizzard is motivated enough. Diablo - forever, Others - whatever
  9. To be honest I was quite interested in the whole idea till I got to the PHP bit, which is when I realized it was just the idea that had me interested, and I had paid scant interest to the "whats-needed-to-actually-get-it-done" department. I'm more of a Java enthusiast, but I'll get back to you in a few days. Here's wishing you luck with more volunteers.
