  1. Nice, simple shading. Quirky picture....they seem to be quite concerned that someone interrupted their...alone time. Or...whatever they might've been in the middle of! I think that a bit of implied texture would've been a nice addition to this piece. It's good in it's simplicity and shading, but I think a bit of texture would've really added some more character.
  2. Is inkscape strictly an inking program? The pictures you've produced seem to have a rather cartoony quality about them that I like. Seems to create some smooth lines too, which I'm interested in. Nice, simple, straight-forward graphics, which are good for a website I think.
  3. While many people support the hanging of Sadam, others who supported his actions will view him as a martyr. Personally I don't have many thoughts on his death. Death doesn't bring justice, nor does it fix problems that the particular person might have created while living. Still though, for many people his death will be looked at as a huge weight than has been lifted from their conscience. *shrug* It's amazing how one person's actions (or in this case, the action done to them) can affect and captivate the attention of the world.
  4. Well I've been messing around with the table all day today and I'm having trouble with two things mainly. 1. I don't know if it's a border or what around each cell in the table, but there is a space between each cell. I don't know how to fix it - I've tried several things, but nothing has worked so far. On the website you provided (Saint-michael), there is no space in the color between cells on the odd rows that are colored different than the background of the table. Anyways, you can see what I'm talking about in the links to the pictures I provided below. EDIT: I just asked my boyfried and he said he likes the small gaps, because it helps keep the columns easily separated. Do you have any opinions? 2. In firefox, there is a nice break between Realgay and Arianget (these are character names, please see the picture to know what I'm talking about.) I need a separation between those two because Realgay and the characters above are officers in the guild, and Arianget and those below are members. Anyways, in firefox a good bit of separation appears, but in internet explorer, it doesn't really. I was wondering what I need to do in order to allow for more space between these two names in IE. Here are the pictures so you know what I'm talking about for both of my issues. Please let me know what you think about the colors on the table. I think they're alright, but if you have a better suggestion I'm all for trying it out. Screenshot taken of how it looks in Internet explorer: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ And in Firefox: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ And below is the css for the table part. I thought maybe having this might help you help me fix the breaks between cells. Maybe it's just something simple that I missed, or something that I need to add.... EDIT: Sorry I don't know how to make it have a scrollbar so the code doesn't take up the whole page.. #roster { border-width: 4px 4px 4px 4px; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; color: #003647; border-style: solid solid solid solid; border-color: #E1E1E5 #E1E1E5 #E1E1E5 #E1E1E5; border-collapse: collapsed; background-color: #003647; width: auto;}.rosterhead {}.rosterhead th { text-decoration: underline; font-size: 112%; padding: 5px 5px 5px 5px; color: #E1E1E5; border-collapse: collapsed; background-color: #003647; -moz-border-radius: 0px 0px 0px 0px;}.rosterhead tr { border-collapse: collapse;}.roster td { padding: 5px 5px 5px 5px; color: #E1E1E5; border-collapse: collapsed; background-color: #003647; -moz-border-radius: 0px 0px 0px 0px;}.rosterbody tr.odd td { background: #31616F; border-collapse: collapsed;}*html tr.odd td { background: #31616F;}
  5. I'm really not familiar at all with the different forums available out there, so thank you for providing the link. I have heard that there are many security issues with the phpBB, but it seemed to be the easiest to install (since I've never done anything like this before). I'm wondering a couple things though....Am I really at risk for hackers or...security problems if the site for the forum is really only accessed by a small group of people? And also, if I end up changing to the SimpleMachinesForum....(this might be a stupid question), but any data that I had previously on my forums, will that be erased or can I transfer it? Thanks so much for all of your help. I appreciate it very much.
  6. I bought this game for my boyfriend for Christmas and he says he really likes it so far. I've watched him play a bit of it and we both think it has a very cinematic feel to it and it looks really neat. The camera angles are cool and I think the giants look awesome. He's pretty much just started the game, but he says he likes so far how the story is vague, so you can, in a sense make your own until you pick up the plot line as you go further into the game. And yeah, climbing the giants is incredible. Nice looking game, and I'm glad to see that my boyfriend thinks it's good....since I did get it for him as a gift. Maybe when he's done with it I'll play it.
  7. Saint-michael, the links you gave me were really interesting and I'd like to do something like that with the tables on my site. Thank you for providing those. In the code it points to a png picture to color the odd versus even rows, but....well I have no idea what this picture is supposed to look like, or what size it needs to be, etc.A tiny snippet of what I'm talking about:tbody tr.odd td{ background:transparent url(tr_bg.png) repeat top left;}Is there any way I can view just that picture (tr_bg.png) from his site? If that....makes any sense. Do I need to make it a specific size or is it a very tiny image that's just repeated or...what? Also, just as a warning, I'm probably going to really need some help with this tables thing...By the way, I took your advice and changed the side bar to that blue as you suggested before. I think you're right in saying that it needs some separation. I also added another bar at the bottom though for color separation between that page container and the footer. Let me know if you think that green is too powerful at the bottom...
  8. Ok first off, saint-Michael: Thank you for taking the time to make some revisions to the code. I really appreciate you doing that. I don't quite fancy the round corners look , but the original creater of this particular style sheet used them. I tried to get rid of them actually, and I probably left tons of crap code lying about because I wasn't sure what to delete or not. The whole process of modifying the style sheet and website took me...well...forever. It was a whole lot of trial and error for me since I hadn't ever seen or worked with anything like this before. The modified code you provided me though helped me tremendously to smooth out some parts on the site that really looked like poop. I can't thank you enough for providing your help. Moving on to mastercomputers: You're going to have to translate that whole bit into plain english for me because I have absolutely no idea what you mean by all of that. Not a clue. As for my poor coding, it's my first time creating a working site. You sound like you shuddered away in horror when you saw it! If you could explain a bit further what you mean by XHTML and HTML 4.01 Transitional, I would appreciate it. I'm curious to know what you mean, for I guess I don't understand how to distinguish the differences between the two. For everyone else: 1. I changed that green sidebar that everyone said looked ugly. I didn't think it looked too bad, but I guess the more bland, the better...Pfft. So, the sidebar is now the same color as the main area. 2. I changed that rather plain looking white box on the right side as well and made it a light blue with dark blue border. I've got a quesiton about that though, because on Firefox, for me it shows a very thick blue border on the top and bottom of that box. On internet explorer, the sizes of the border on all sides of the box are equal. I like the thick on top and bottom and would like to know how I might make that show up on Internet explorer. 3. Changed the tables on the roster page and gallery page, so hopefully they are more centered now and look better with a thicker border. 4. Changed the font color to dark blue for every page, so now all the text matches. Here are two links to pictures of what the site used to look like, in case you wanted to compare. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ <----- Home page. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ <----- Crappy alignment on the roster page. Thank you everyone for the kind comments I've received. I really appreciate your support, and hope that I can continue to make changes to the site to improve it.
  9. Oh my god it finally worked. : ) Thank you so much for putting up with me and helping me solve my ridiculous problem. I really, really appreciate your assistance. You rock in the most awesome of ways.
  10. I can't get it to work at all for some reason. I created a two new folders and now this is the path - images/avatars/gallery/user_avatars/test. This means that the category that should show up under the gallery dropdown menu is "test", right? Well I can't get anything to show up at all there. I changed the permissions for the folder to 777 too to see if that was it, but it didn't change anything. And I've also got a question about not just the gallery avatars, but the personal avatars as well. I want to allow users to upload their own avatar and so I specified a path in images/avatars/users (a folder I created for personal avatars users upload), and I successfully uploaded a picture into that folder. The problem is though that under "profile options" for the user, the avatar doesn't even show up to be selected. When I (as the administrator) view my own profile by clicking "management" under "user admin" I can see the avatar plain as day. However, when I click the "profile" button, like I'm just going to edit my personal profile, the avatar doesn't show up. Does that make sense? I don't know what to do, and it's really confusing me especially since the pictures are in the files, but they're just not showing up at all to be selected.Am I totally missing something? It seems like I really must be if it works for you and not me. I did follow your directions, and I did change the path so it stores them in the right place.... Thank you by the way for helping me. Sorry my problem is turning out to be a big pain.
  11. I've never had a site or forums up on the internet before, but I think this one is coming along alright. I've also never used CSS before, so that was definitely new and exciting to mess around with. I downloaded a free CSS template designed by David Herreman (http://www.free-css-templates.com/), and modified it until I liked the way it looked for my site.. I drew the banner in Photoshop - (the animal is a Murloc, from World of warcraft). Here is the link to my site: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Also if you look at the site and become confused as to what it's about, it is meant to be an informational site and meeting/discussion area for the members of my guild on World of Warcraft. Thanks for having a look, and please let me know what you think.
  12. My most sincere apologies, but....I have absolutely no idea how to answer that question because I don't understand it. It's my very first time creating a site and having a forum, and I have no idea what you mean by script. Perhaps if I give you more information, it may magically be the answer you are looking for...The file I downloaded and am using for the forum says phpBB 2.0.21. I set the permissions for the avatar folder to 777, so now the pictures actually upload....and they're in the avatar folder, but they just don't show up on the forum at all. And to upload them, I just selected the "enable uploading of avatars" button and found the file on my computer and uploaded it. I'm sure that it's sounds like it's a bloody miracle that I got that forum up and running since I've no idea what the hell I'm talking about.
  13. To chesso and joe.k:I used a program called photoshop to draw the picture. You've probably heard of it before, as it's very popular. Other than that, I guess I just played around a bit until I made something I was fairly happy with looking at. : ) I'm so glad my work inspired you. That is such a fantastic thing to hear!
  14. Digital drawing.....I guess I just said that to clarify that it was drawn on the computer, and not a "traditional drawing" with pens or pencils or watercolour, etc. The real title of the picture though is "I guess I'll catch you later". And thanks, I'm glad you like the character. : )
  15. Wow I just realized that I hadn't been tracking this topic and I should have been. To twitch: Anyways, I don't feel negatively toward the game designers, even if they do design some extremely graphic and hostile games. And I'm not disgusted either that they were capable of devising such a graphic concept for a game. It just creative license I suppose, and they've got the right to create whatever type of game they want. After all, it is my choice in whether I choose to participate in playing and involving myself in that game or not. Someone brought up the idea in a previous post that some people develop problems separating reality from fantasy. I personally don't believe this is acually the issue. Going along with the Columbine incident, I think that the problem there was the "numbness" that I've been talking about. They were aware that their bullets could potentially murder people, but they probably didn't care. Because they had become numb to compassion and empathy, they lost important skills such as foresight and thorough evaluation of the consequences of their actions.I must admit I'm becoming a bit more numb to violence because I do surround myself with it so much. I watch violent movies, I play violent games, and because of this I have indeed built up a tolerence to it like I mentioned before. I think gaming does affect our psyche which in turn affects our behaviour. *shrug*
  16. To KDEWolf:I haven't checked Deviant Art in a while, so I didn't notice that you are watching me now. Thanks though for watching my work!To Vyoma:I like drawing pictures with horizontal stripes, and nope, I wasn't really trying anything with the snow/ice. I don't usually have anything in mind when I start to draw a picture, so I have absolutely no idea what it's going to turn out like at the end. There is usually no "deeper meaning" behind any of my pictures. In fact, not many of them have a meaning at all. They're all basically just random pictures. And you asked what program I used to draw this - Photoshop. : ) Thanks for the comments guys. I appreciate them.
  17. Ok well I'm having an avatar problem as well, but I thought instead of posting a new topic I'd post here to keep the avatar issues together in the same topic. I have changed the permissions to 777 for the avatars folder where all the avatars should be stored, so that solved my problem of getting the same error that the original creator of this topic had. My problem now though is that the avatars won't show up on the forum even though they have actually been successfully uploaded. Under avatar settings I have "enable uploading" checked yes, and "enable remote avatars" checked yes as well. The file size I've specified is under 50kb and no larger than 100x100 pixels. The image I uploaded meets all these requirements, and is in the directory, but won't show up on the forum, nor in the "Profile" options. All users are able to "display avatars", as that option is checked yes as well. Anyways, I'd really appreciate it if someone might be able to help me figure out my problem. It might just be something I totally overlooked....but thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have to fix this.
  18. I have never nor will I ever be part of any of those blog sites or friend sites like Myspace, Facebook, etc. I think they're really silly. And yes, there are of course addicts out there. What's worse though is that they're self-absorbed addicts. I think that it's dangerous to put so much of yourself out there for everyone to read. Sure, mainly it's just your friends and such, but of course there are always the creepy people. You know. The creepy ones, that prowl the myspace and facebook accounts, making "friends" and constantly watching them, trying to become friendly enough so that they can meet said friend. It's just weird. I don't trust people enough to tell them all about my day and life and all the friends I have. I suppose though that addictions can arise with any activity. It's not fair to judge someone because they like to spend time doing a particular thing. Even if it is a lot of time. However, I don't think it's safe to offer so much personal information in a centralized area for everyone to read.
  19. My boyfriend just got this game for the Gamecube and he said compared to....the Wind waker? (Is that the cartoony one? Pfft. I don't know much about Zelda.) Anyways he says compared to that one it feels rather hollow. I've watched him play them both and just as an observer, I've got to say the cartoony one looked like it was a lot more fun and exciting than this newer one. The colors in the new one, even though it's a more realistic looking game, are mostly brown and seem really faded. He doesn't seem to be having as much fun playing this new one as he did the last. While Link has some neat outfits, the whole game looks rather bland. As you can see I probably shouldn't even be giving my opinion, as it's really not mine and more of my boyfriend's than anything. I haven't played either Zelda game, but I have been an observer in both. Doesn't matter much though I guess. Does anyone who has played the games have any opinion?
  20. I think in order for it to be a REAL man salad, the dressing would have to be "the blood of your enemies". : )
  21. I took a class in school and was really excited about learning what all could be made in Flash and how to make it. However, we only ended up doing the button thing as well, and creating a "masked layer" or something along those lines. Eventually I played around in Flash by myself and learned more about it along the way. I think the most complete thing I ever made in Flash was a frame by frame animation for one of my art classes in college. It took a lot of trial and error, but I finally managed to make it flow and to add sounds and effects and such. Turned out pretty well I think. Now though, I use Flash mostly for drawing. I like how smooth the lines are, and how cartoony the pictures come out when drawing them in Flash. : )
  22. My boyfriend and I have had this game for a while now, and we've improved immensely since we first started. I can now play Cowboys from Hell on Expert, and he can play Bark at the Moon on expert. I can't play his song though and he can't play mine, which is weird! I think Bark at the moon is so much harder, but he can master it and I can't. It's SO much fun to be able to go to Best Buy where they have Guitar Hero 2 out and play the songs on Expert straight off. : ) That I suppose is a result of us spending a lot of time playing the first one. I couldn't believe it, but we were in Best Buy and he beat the song YYZ on Expert on the FIRST try! He's insane. It took me three or maybe four tries to finally beat it on Expert. I would most definitly recommend Guitar Hero or Guitar Hero 2 to anyone I know, because it's a fun game that anyone can enjoy. Also, it lasts forever. Because there are different levels of expertise, the challenges keep coming. Even when you reach expert, it takes a very long time to become proficient at it! Absolutely fantastic game. And for those of you who play guitar, I can only imagine that this game (even though it's played with a silly, plastic, guitar-shaped controller) would improve the dexterity in your fingers. I only wish they would have picked more interesting songs for Guitar Hero 2. I had the chance to play through a few of them and a lot of the songs are either unbelievably long, or just too mellow for a really interesting guitar part or bass line. Oh well, still a fun game!
  23. Guitarfreak? I've never heard of it actually. I play guitar hero though, which is a really fantastic game. It's lots of fun and I'm super excited about the second one. It's a great game that'll last for a long time, because even after almost a year, some songs are still challenging. : )
  24. I've been so curious about this game for a long time now, but never did go out and buy it to try it out. Nice to see that someone agreed it's a good, scary game. I've heard that about it before, and that's what peaked my interest in it in the first place. Nice to see it mentioned again, and I think I might just have to go out and get it now. : )
  25. Yeah really, like that isn't the most ridiculous phone I've ever seen in my life. I'll never understand why people are so obsessed with expensive things. Next they'll make Hummers covered in nothing but white diamonds, and people would buy them, because they're insane. Imagine how awful it would be to get in a wreck in one of those things. Crazy rich people. Thanks for sharing this article. It gave me a much more secure grip on my own sanity, even if it did lower my thoughts on the rest of the world's.
