A PSD is an image, generally of a person (but not always) that has a transparent background around the main object. The name comes from that originally these were always saved with a .psd extension. I'm going to start with this image: To follow the tutorial, I suggest you copy this image. It is an easy image for beginner's because the background is very plain. Start off by selecting the polygonal lasso. You may have to click and hold down on the lasso tool so you can select the polygonal one. The image that you should select is shown below. After you have that tool selected, zoom in to about 700% on your image. ctrl and + for pc's, apple and + for mac's, if you prefer shortcuts. Otherwise, simply select the magnifying glass, and then at the top make sure the one with a '+' in it is selected Now that the image is at 700%, make sure your polygonal lasso tool is selected again. Now, click somewhere to start on the image. With this lasso tool, it's like connect the dots- wherever you click your mouse, another 'dot' forms (this is metaphorical, you won't see any actual dots) and a line forms between the previous 'dot' and this one. Remember, you want to get as close to the image as possible- any background inside the selection will ruin the effect. Here is an example of what it looks like in the middle of selecting. Now, once you have selected the whole image and zooomed out, it should look like this (though mine is at 200%) Now, obviously, the selection won't be perfect the first time. If you accidentally selected the background, hold down the 'alt' key, and select the part you want out of the main selection. If you left a part of the model out, hold down 'ctrl' and select the part you want /in/ the main selection. For example, i need to change this portion: When editing these, zoom in again, and select the polygonal lasso tool. When you are adding selection and holding down ctrl, you should see a plus sign next to the cursor. When you are taking away, and holding down alt, you should see a minus sign. Now that you have edited it, and it seems smooth everywhere (no sharp angles), invert the selection. Select->> Inverse, or ctrl+shift+i. Now press delete. Simply deselect, and delete the background layer (if you have one) and you're done! Now, save as a .psd file, and you can paste it into any image you want! I pasted into an image of a sunset, but obviously you would want to do something more realistic. Still, this shows you the general idea. It seems that even the best hosting site i've ever seen cannot avoid the plaque that is.. MYSPACE! I'll join if i ever get around to creating an account (though it's not likely). I have a sort of prejudice against myspace.

When i first signed up, in the information about hosting & credits, i read that your credits will not go down until you have started hosting- then they will go down on a day-to-day basis. However, two days ago, I had 10.42 credits, and todday I have 8.42. I had applied for hosting when I had 10.42, but I have not yet been accepted- why did my credits go down? And will I be penalized for having an application up but not enough credits? HELP PLEASE!

I have a few questions:Is it worth it to play maplestory or runescape? what is the object of each game? How do you play? what does it require? if you have played it, did you enjoy it? is it time-consuming (as in, you must be on at least once every other day to keep up with the game)?i'm curious and thinking of playing.

Well. ok. My real name is Amy, but i completely hate it- it's short, has no nicknames, just disgusting. So, i picked cassandra- it's the name of a horse i ride and beautiful. Cassie is a nickname of it. There you have it.

For an extremely long time i used Paint Shop Pro 7- even when everyone else was using psp9 i was there hardworking away at my psp7. After a few years i could do anything at lightning speed- i was extremely happy. However, my best friend kept trying to sell me on photoshop. I would go to her house, and she would try to show me how to use it, the different short-cuts, but it was all too different from psp, and too intimidating. needless to say, i gave up. However, just a few months ago, my family bought adobe CS- the whole package. it was mainly for my mom, as her company does custom wall finishes and she uses photoshop and illustrator to edit the pictures of their work. However, i decided to install the whole package as well- i needed indesign for newspaper, and i figured i could try out photoshop again. For about a month, i paid photoshop no attention and continued to use psp for my graphic needs. Then, one day i had off school, i decided to sit down and try photoshop- i found some great brushes but they were only for ps (i had yet to discover the wonder of imagepacks). after that day of testing, and a few more weeks of practicing, i was in love. Not only could it do virtually everything psp could do, but it also introduced a completely new concept to me at the time- saving the layers! Although now i realize i could have done this in psp as well, i found it first in ps, and you know what they say about first loves. Being able to save my layers was a fantastic thing for me. Usually, in psp, i would wait to save until i was completely done, because i assumed you HAD to flatten the image to save. this resulted in many lost images due to thunderstorms and computer freezings (and thus many marks in the wall next to the desk). once i could save with layers, my frustration was practically gone! not to mention i also discovered blending modes in ps- though, again, these also exsist in psp, i assumed at first it was only in ps so i stuck with it- and now it's too late to go back. Plus, who can turn down things like stroke and layer masks? let me just say, there is NO subsitute for photoshop.

I think the image itself is quite sophisticated, but way, way, too big. Just in my personal opinion, splash images should be small, 400x500ish, have a simple picture with 'enter' and/or the site's name. while i love the idea of this image and the image itself, i would probably be scared away from the site if i saw that on a splash page. also, the purpose of a splash page usually is to display affiliates, ads if necessary, places to vote, and site requirements (resolution, browser, etc). With an image that large, you'd have to scroll to see that information which is also not appealing for a splash page.
