  1. Funnily enough, the English name for this type of puzzle, plain and simple, is a Logic Puzzle. We have a monthly book of them out here called Logic Problems, and I've only missed one copy in the last year because I was in hospital. I've been doing these logic puzzles since I was about six. They're great fun! Rebecca
  2. I've always used Windows (since 3.1), and I'm too set in my ways to stop using it now. That said, I wouldn't rule out getting a Mac as a secondary computer. There may be a lot of programs that only run on Windows, but there are also programs that will only run on a Mac. Can't think of any off the top of my head, but I wouldn't mind trying some of them at some point.Rebecca x
  3. I've tried this search engine in both AOL and IE6, both resulted in the same response Now I'm not very bothered what search engine I use, as long as I get some sort of result back, so obviously a search engine which yields no results on numerous occasions regardless of the browser is a waste of time, effort and bandwidth. Sorry, but I will definitely not be using this search engine in the future, unless I can have assurance that it will show any results, let alone possitive ones. Rebecca x
  4. I first heard the moon landing conspiracy theory about ten years ago, when I was an avid reader of The X Factor magazine (nothing to do with Simon Cowell - it was a sci-fi/paranormal magazine) and to be honest, I spent quite a long time questioning the validity of the photos, and the whole idea of the moon landings in general. There are a lot of elements of the photography in particular that would suggest that they are not genuine. There is no denying that the moving flag, the difference in shadow lengths of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, the reflection of light in areas that should be in shadow, footprints where there should be none, letters seemingly carved in moon rocks and many other examples, can add fuel to anybody's doubt. So what are we supposed to believe?I personally think that the photos ARE fake. But before any of you jump down my throat, hear me out on this. The moon landings weren't fake.I susequently decided that it is just slightly possible that we were all expecting something completely different to what was actually found up there, so the photos were created back home, to keep the dream alive. We all fantasize about sometime in the future colonizing the moon, and I think that maybe whatever was found up there means it is impossible. But why shatter the dreams of billions of people? Brainwave! Tell them what they want to hear!I am an amateur astronomer, and I love looking at the moon, hoping that it is still possible, and I think that NASA are probably still trying to find a way to get us up there. After all, why would they be offering us the chance to visit the moon - at ridiculous expense I might add. There's my thought on the matter. Take from it what you will...Rebecca x
  5. Over at Heart Internet, this is what they promised me when I stumbled across their site a few months ago: All These Features for Free! So I signed up, uploaded my site to their server and and a loving relationship blossomed... Then two weeks ago I offered four small downloads from my site, albeit through a third party file host, as they don't allow file hosting at Heart (how naff is that?!) and within twelve hours, my site was disabled for 'excedence of bandwidth limit'. Promo I had done for the downloads took you straight to the page the downloads were linked through, and the page only had five tiny graphics. And when I say promotion, I mean a comment on a single forum! I was in hospital for five days, starting on the afternoon that I promoted the page, and I came home to an inbox full of angry messages asking "why send us to a disabled link, blah blaah blah..." And I thought, what the hell is the point of saying you can do what you like with your webspace if you can't let anyone visit your site? So that's why I visited AstaHosts. They promised me higher bandwidth, still free, as long as I sit in the forums, spewing forth inane chatter all day long (with a purely technical bent of course). So the moral of this story is 'Avoid Heart if you want people to visit your site - or pay a fortune for it!' Thank you for listening... uhm sorry, reading! Rebecca x
  6. I've already mentioned her site somewhere else on the forum (now where did I put that post...) but Donna de Leeuw has some lovely wallpapers over at MoonGraphics. Visual Paradox is also cool, and he also shares his secrets on how his designs are made, which has led to me downloading some of the free software he uses so that I can make my own wallpaper, which will be on my site when it is up and running. I know they've already been mentioned but deviantart are probably one of the best sites, and they also have a lot of Poser and Daz|Studio users over there, so you can pick up freebies for those programs too! Oh, and I also have two wallpapers in my gallery here, and I'm just off to add a couple more once I've posted this reply, methinks. Uhm, basically, if you go to any of the Poser or Daz|Studio sites, then they usually have 'backgrounds' that you can use in the background in 3d software renders, but as most are in 1024x768 res, you can easily use them as wallpapers. And if you download Daz|Studio which is totally free (but you need an account with them) then you can get loads of free stuff to make your own wallpapers anyway. Surely it's better to make your own wallpapers than to rip off everybody else's? Rebecca x
  7. These are some great sites. I like seeing sites that give you templates, and it's a great way of building your first site, or just finding out how to create a certain layout for your site. I don't use templates myself, and don't think I will do, but I am creating some websets to distribute on my site when I get it up and running. If you want some cool websets/templates, you should try visiting MoonGraphics. The site is by Donna Louise Maria de Leeuw, and she has some fantastic designs available as linkware or purchaseware. Just go to Layouts in the nav bar at the top under Linkware or Purchaseware, and take a look. She also has some pretty funky adoptables, banner templates and signatures, so it's definitely worth checking out. Rebecca x PS I am in no way affiliated with the site I mentioned, so just take it as a happy little recommendation!
  8. Just for the hell of it I hopped over to the page too see what all the fuss was about. I've been before as it turns out, and from what I remember, the links to their members' sites drew blanks then aswell. They say "Here's what our members are saying about us", I say "Your members are saying that they are probably being paid by you to have their photo taken and have words put in their mouths, because they obviously aren't using your hosting services!"Yah, boo sucks to 100webspace.com! Xisto are waaaay better than yow! My five week old son just took one look at their page, let out a monster burp and spewed forth his last feed! Rebecca x
  9. I think that the tabs look much better than the non-tabbed version. I've also noticed that not many people seem to use tabs anymore. I would do, but to be quite honest, when I've been trying to make site layouts with tabs, it ends up screwing up the whole look, and I have to go back and edit to make it more presentable, and it's too much hassle, so I just end up going back to flat layouts with simple buttons.Tabs have a generally more professional look to them, and make site nav easier, so I'd go with the tabbed version if I were you.Rebecca x
  10. I've had this same problem. It got so bad (I have 50+ people as contacts) that I have scrapped using Messenger all together when I'm online for short periods of time, or extremely busy, because otherwise I end up with about a dozen people all wanting to talk to me at the same time. That's what comes from having triplets I suppose... Either that or I sign in as offline and then contact anyone I need to without letting everybody know I'm online. Unfortunately, this was always so in messenger, and I'm not sure there's anyway round it. Sorry I couldn't help more, but at least you know you're not the only one with this problem. Rebecca x
  11. I'm a big fan of OpenOffice, as I can't afford to but MS Office, but my boyfriend hates it. I think if you can live with any office suite then it will work well for you, so you should just try them out and decide from there. You can normally get demo versions of many of the top ones so you don't have to spend a fortune straighht off. I also liked Lotus SmartSuite, which would definitely be my suite of choice if money were no object.Besides which, I only ever use OOo2 for my writing, so it isn't even like I need it anyway, it just makes it easier!Rebecca x
  12. HD-DVDs already?Well, I don't have an HD-DVD player yet. I have had a HD tv for about five months and I'm still paying for it (bloody hire-purchase, it'll cost 50% more than the sale price from when we first got it, which was about £900, and it's now in the shops for £500! ).Anyway, that's beside then point. Even if I had a HD-DVD player, I don't rate the available titles much, so I think I'll wait til they bring out some films I'd actually care to watch before throwing more money out the window.Having said that, at least my daughter can't feed biscuits to the DVD player like she can the VCR. (Yes, I still have one!)Rebecca x
  13. I'd agree. I started using PSP with v5, now I'm using v9. I use it for making web graphics and other simple projects, and red-eye removal on digital photos, but I prefer ULead Photo Express for anything else. Rebecca x
  14. You could always try AceHTML Freeware from Visicom. It takes very little time to learn, can be used for basic or professional looking sites, comes with a plethora of java scripts that can enhance your site's look, or clutter it up to hell, and best of all, it's free! From the same site you can download AceFTP, to upload your site to the server once it's done, and VMN Toolbar which you can customise to promote your site! Rebecca x
  15. I use eTrust Internet Security Suite:EZ AntiVirusPersonal FirewallPestPatrol Anti-SpywareAntiSpamI also have Spyware Doctor, and AOL Spyware Zapper. There was a time I had Norton Antivirus, but got a virus downloading an update for it - not the best of adverts for their product! I've also used McAfee, but the setup I have now is safest I've known.Rebecca x
