  1. I really hate Windows Genuine Advantage or the Genuine Validation System/Program. Every time I want to download a program from Microsoft i'd sy 75 percent of the time I have to do this all again. IVE DONE IT BEFORE. Its just like I have to download two programs to get one, yes, thatsx exactly what it is. I hate it! I hate it!
  2. Mzlingling, thats not hard to believe at all. Many of us go on Google 20+ times a day if we are researching something. Google is even my homepage. Its not hard to go on Google alot if you are information hungry or you just want to utilise thier great tools. Google has everything, right?
  3. I didn't mean put out of business in a money or business sense, I mean no one would download Ubuntu from their site anymore, just the Google tweeked version. I wouldn't mind if Google and Ubuntu teamed up. That would be awesome.
  4. I was just reading about this on Digg, Slashdot and TechCrunch, Newsvine, everywheres running this story. I can tell this is going to be big. I've got to confess: i'm a sinner to the name Google. I have not yet downloaded Google Talk. Now I think i'll be using this online version quite alot. Its just a shame no one uses it really, but I suppose this will give it a huge boost in popularity and people will start using it. I just hope theres a disable option, as maybe some people don't want people constantly being able to message them, eh?
  5. My thought on the first post:So?Tell me why I should care if Google release a modified Ubuntu. I hope I don't sound too arrogant, but it wouldn't be that great. It would be Ubuntu packaged with all of Googles products. Sure, it may have a few tweeks to make it better, but basically it would just be like Google pack. Its a pack of Google products to get you to use thier products.I mean, it would shove Linux into the public eye, which is overall a good thing for Google to do, but, I mean, no one will use it. If they do, it will put Ubuntu out of business with everyone just downloading Google's supposed better version, when really its just a bunch of software they've deved. Google can use it if they want... Do us a favour though, don't release it.My two cents.
  6. Well, PHP is the in thing pretty much right now and Xisto supports it, so its a pretty good option. First though, I strongly advise you learn HTML. Don't just skim over it or brush up on it. Read all the tutorials for HTML and CSS at HTML Dog. The reason for CSS is that, if you ever want to make a good website and complying with standards, not using tables (which is a good thing), you need it. So, once you've learn HTML and CSS, i'd say its time to learn PHP. The best PHP tutorial out there is the PHPBook, from hudzilla.org. This long book will take time to complete, yet do not skip any of it. I was very tempted to skip some to get to the good bits, yet I wouldn't of understood them if I did skip. Finally, learn CSS using the PHPBook too. It teaches it pretty well. Hope I helped.
  7. Uuugh. This just basically means more spam for us right? I mean I wouldn't mind if it was like $1 an email, it would put them out of business, but it seems like we'll all be getting spam again, just like the old days. Am I right? - By the way, I hope Google doesn't follow this. I mean, they do do no evil =P.
  8. I think Google, I also think the majority of replys will say Google. I mean nowdays not many people use AOL or MSN and when they do its often becasue its their browsers default search engine. Google is quite obviously winning the search engine 'war' if you want to put it like that. Yahoo Search Google MSN Search Don't you think they all look abit similar? They all copied off Google, aside from Google that is. I mean, its all the same layout that Google so famously got famous off. The simple Links above search bar and options to the side. The only extra thing Yahoo! has added is the junk at the bottom. My two cents, I guess.
  9. I'm with GMail for one reason: I like to be able to keep all my email and never throw it away. Is it just me, or does GMail really succeed in doing that, you know? Not ever making you throw stuff away. I also use it for GDrive or whatever it is, to store some files. Which is pretty cool. Also, when did AIM get email? I thought it was just AOL.
  10. Nvu is not actully an FTP program. Its a web program that can FTP files you create in the Nvu program to a server, hardly useable as a full FTP program. Its a pretty good program if you use it what its for, i've used it before, its got some cool features and stuff. If you're looking for a real FTP program try here.
  11. I use CuteFTP personally, and thats really cool, but you have to pay for it so its not what you are looking for. For a free FTP client I would highly recommend Filezilla for Useability and Portability, as you can put it on your USB drive too. If your a newbie to FTP and stuff though, i'd recommend SMartFTP as I find it more newbie friendly. You can also try some online FTP clients. Try net2ftp.com and web2ftp.com (Recomend the former)
  12. Twitch, I am really sorry. After reading your posts anyone could realise that your a really coll guy, who is helpful and tries his best. I lost my Dad, I know what it feels like. I'm really sorry.
  13. 1) Counter Strike: Source Its just a damn good game. Theres an awesome choice of guns, the graphics rock and there isn't many hackers. You can always find a good game in less than two minutes and its what lots of people play. 2) Doom 1 Its oldschool, just damn cool. 3)America's Army Pretty much the same reasons as Counter Strike: Source, plus a few hackers. 4)James Bond: Nightfire I love playing with all the gadgets. 5)The rest of James Bond Again, the gadgets really get me. So cool!
  14. It depends kinda, in a wierd way. I don't mind either KDE or Gnome, yet i'd say I like KDE abit more. In the short time i've messed with Linux i've found it incredibly useful to be able to hide the menu and the way its like Windows. Yet Gnome is special in its own ways, like its small and slick. I'd go for KDE Overall.

    Hey

Thanks for commenting guys. Yea, I hope I have a good time here, and get hosting. I tried looking around Xisto but I found that I'mma like Xisto more because of the technical discussion forums.
  16. Yea, yet it is hard to compare NOD32 to AVG. Like you said, NOD32 is extreamly fast on updates and is extreamly good at detecting viruses, but its not free. We've got to keep in mind that they might not have people working in offices twenty four hours a day in AVG, and they do have high priority stuff to do like get updates out to thier payed anti-virus, so remember that.
  17. Like many, i'm going to tell you that GMail is absoloutly great for everything. The major feature is that you get so much space so you never have to delete anything, its super cool in that way. Its also good that its on Google's server and is super fast. Its also cool that you can actully download the GDrive or whatever it is and store your files on GMail, like your own little harddrive.I'd rate it 10/10, A++, whatever, its great.
  18. Nice, you should submit this to the tutorial topic of Userbars.com. They already have alot but one more wouldn't do any harm now would it?As you can probably tell, I love userbars.

    Hey

Hey, just thought I'd introduce myself if I plan to get hosting here. I've made a few posts already so you might of seen me once before. My real name is Andrew and I'm a English guy who likes biscuits with his tea and walks around politely taking my hat off to everyone I meet. I suppose I could say where my name comes from, yet I figure you've probley guess. Alot of people have Mc starting thier surname and Guy is pretty random, like me, so why not be called McGuy? I came up with the name when registering for a very strange place on the internet. I shall identify it by saying seven words:'Do you have stairs in your house?'.I play Counter Strike: Source quite regularly along with EVE Online and World of Warcarft. I sometimes play Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition, but I mainly stick to online games and MMORPGs, because its what I do.Anyway, thats me.
  20. I use it on my laptop but on my desktop I use Kapersky Anti-Virus Personal Edition and Kapersky Anti-Hacker Firewall. As far as I know they are free, but I got them on a desk so you'll have to check the website. I never was a problem with AVG but then again I wouldn't know if the virus definitions were coming out late because honestly I didn't care that much, and still don't. Its not like my computer couldn't use a good old virus to make me wipe the harddrive and get rid of all the rubbish on my computer i'm too lazy to do manually. Anyway, just my two cents.
  21. Okay, if you haven't been hiding under a rock recently you'll know that Newsvine, the newest way to earn money and be a journalist, for free, is causing somewhat of a storm in the online tech community. The prospect of the site is to encourage amateur journalism in a community of people. Heck, even professionals can join in if they wish, but I suppose they're busy with professional stuff. Now, I know a few of your are going to be interested in the making money bit, so here goes. When you join Newsvine (Invite only now [5/02/06]) you get a column, or your very own webpage, subdomain at yourname.newsvine.com. When Newsvine comes out of beta, ads will be put on the site. The plan is that you get 90% of the ad revenue that comes from your column, subdomain. The 10% really depends. If you got invited to Newsvine by one of your friends that friend gets the 10%, if you just registered normally when Newsvine comes out of beta (which will be soon according to a inside the net podcast will be soon) the devlopers get the 10% to add to server costs or maybe thier beer fund. Who knows. Anyway, onto the features. Newsvine has a great deal of them, no shortage. The most obvious feature is that you can write the articles (and get the dosh). You can then proceed to comment on those articles, or take part in a live chat with other people reading the article, thought there is a flaw with this feature, no one evear joins them, and no one will ever join an empty chatroom, therefore no one will ever join, hopefully this will end soon. You can also tag articles, and then access all articles tagged with a specific phrase at newsvine.com/tag_name. You can also become a featured writer if you a good and valued member of the community and a good writer. Thats all I can remember off the top of my head. Now, just please do not ask me for an invite. No offense, but i'm not giving any out to people I don't know as if someone I invite spams the comments its a bad impact on my account, so yeah. The Link: Newsvine Sorry those who are not invited but want to see, try Google.
  22. You could always try playing the midi, recording all sound coming off your sound card and then save it is a MP3 file in Audacity or something. I don't know how to do this, but I know it is possible as i've seen and listened to people doing it. Good luck.Andrew.
  23. I'm going to have to agree with the above poster. I mean, I used to play Habbo Hotel too, I was even popular. Had friends such as Pipwiz and Chris (Forgot the rest of his name). Eventually it just gets boring and as you get older you realise that it is the worst possible way to spend your money, on an online popularity contest on who can waste the most money. Like the above poster also said, you have to pay for everything. You don't have to pay to make a room, but you can't do anything with it without paying, and without anything in it no one will come in unless you're a really popular Habbo. In my opinion its a waste of time and money.
