Bit Torrent, like any piece of file sharing software will only be as dangerous as you make it. Just like a computer, bit torrent is a piece of software waiting for you to give it some instructions to tell it what file to download. As long as you use legal sources that you can trust you should be fine, although it is still important to keep your system updated and secure with security software that is well updated, even though this will still not gaurentee your computer and information's safety. The only way to truely have a secure computer is to put it in a titanium cube underground, with no hookups to the internet.

Well, you need at least Service Pack One now to get updates, and when service pack three comes out, that means you will probally have to upgrade to service pack two, or (my preferred choice) upgrade to Vista.and I have heard that as far as the firewall goes, SP2 has the same as SP1, just with a newer UI, is this true?

I have a TI-84+ Silver edition, and a TI-89 Titanium (I'm in Advanced Placement Calculus) I've programed some math programs, since I have some basic, and VB6 experience, but most of the stuff I get is off of TIcalc.org

Okay, first I got the first package, and it was 20MB, and then I eventually got enough credits, applied, got accepted, and upgraded to the second one, (php-nuke dosen't fit on the first one). That said unlimited, but now it says STARTER package again, and I'm back down to 20MB

okay, but I have the one you have to upgrade to, and I have about 20 extra credits, and I only have 20MB

It was recently Fall 2006, but now it is probally 4-15-4150sorry about the double post, I couldn't find an edit button, but could you give us a link to the article, since I can't find it? Notice from qwijibow: merged

The Traffic Checking is the most amazing feature, it makes burnout revenge seem a lot faster paced, and at times just plain insane. Vertical Takedowns and huge jumps are also a great add-on. I think EA has done a great job with this game, and I reccommend it over any other racing game. It is crazy, I'm at 5 now, so ZeroHawk has suddenly scared me into thinking that it is going to get a lot harder to get those perfect. Oh well, I'll just split my time between this and Halo2.I haven't tried the online yet, but I wish they had split screen system link, or split screen live.

I looked at my cPanel to update the site some, and now I only have 20MB instead of unlimited? I can't put in the forums now or really anything, I have -70 MB

Reinstall Windows Xp without having to reinstall current appl

My computer is running really slow now, do you think that this is a safe way to speed it up, I was thinking about reformating, but I was to lazy to back up everything on the HDD. -
For our old halomadness site, we used to use a form of InvisionBoard that was free, I think that is one of the best out there, but because of the way the host ran, all we got was a forum, and we couldn't get a backup copy or anything. We also had to host the images using other sites (photobucket) and they would keep dissaperaring. The new site we have uses PHPBB, and it seems to be good software, but the theme I have now is kinda cheap looking.I also think the SMF system is fast and clean, but I like PHP-Nuke beter than Mambo.

Windows Vista What do you think about it ?
TJ213 replied to darkool's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I've seen the beta (my uncle has MSDN), and I can tell you, it is much faster, and supposidly more reliable than Windows XP. What your might realize is that all of the graphical improvements are supposed to be coming in Beta 2, not Beta 1, for users who like to see the changes, Beta 1 was probally pretty boring. Beta 2 is where windows will get its improved UI.I'd switch linux, but I can't seperate from all the windows software.so I decided to use both (dual boot) -
Windows is flawed, lets face it, maybe the world would be better off if there was an enron like situation in microsoft. At the same time, that would cause a huge economic problem, so Microsoft is going to remain the leader for now. SP2 does have some security fixes, and chances are you won't see them. The only problem I encountered with SP2 is that I can't get some tunneling software to work. If you are already behind all sorts of security, or behind corporate servers, hopefully they will take care of information well enough that you will be safe.Oh, and at least XP dosen't have as many service packs as Windows 2000.and who knows, maybe you've been hacked, and you don't know about it?

Although I think nitendo has a great idea, and judging by their fan base (think about how well nitendo DS sold) it will be accpted pretty well. I just think my arm would get tired holding the controler like that for hours. I also found a lot of people on Xbox Live who thought it was terrible, because they just looked at the pictures. Nitendo had to do something to stand out, and here it is. The revolution-ary revolution (bad pun by CNN.com)

Firefox in its default configuration is pretty slow, although it is very flexible. I think that the speed of firefox could be greatly increased if they applied a couple of the speed hacks to it.

The problem might not be the Wi Fi, your computers could be on seperate domains, or workgroups. Make sure they are linking up to the same network. If you have the default SSID, that is very bad. The best thing to do is test wired, then make sure your wireless is correct, and make sure you take care of security by doing the following steps:Change the password, the default password is very easy to guessChange the SSID, if an attacked sees a default SSID, it is kinda obvious that the network is not secured. This also helps make sure you are connecting all of your computers to the same network.Activate WEP (wired equivilent privacy), or (this is the preffered security at this time) WPA-TKIP, (Wireless Pivacy Authentication (not sure about that one) - Timed key (not sure what the I is) protocal.) also try to set your TKIP to about 15-120 min. This means that your internet and network will temproarilly bet interupted every 15-120 minutes as keys are changed. You usually regain service in about 2-5 seconds.Disable SSID broadcasting, this makes it harder to find your network.

the strange thing is that when people are comparing half life 2 they always include counter strike source. Counter Strike is not Half Life 2. Not only are they very different games, the people who play them may be very different. This is because halo2 will run well on a $150 xbox, while Half Life 2 requires an internet connection (preferably broadband)(although halo2 does if you want to have fun playing it). Half Life 2 requires a powerful computer, probally at least $1500.

Apple is currently making most of their money in the music market. Just look at the way it has come back into out lives once ITunes and the IPods were released. I personally think apple is a great company, you just end up having to pay a high price for high quality. On the upside, none of their products run on oil.

I glue pieces back on when I accidently hit the side of a doorway with the laptop when I'm walking into the room. (what, the thing has a 17" widescreen, it is like a tank.)I just wish I could find one of those fan things, putting this thing on your lap is like certain death.

I run XP pro on everything except this laptop which runs Windows Media Center Edition 2005. I always get that DVD/CD burner error with the not able to read, or illegal operation, or something that prevents me from opening it a as a writable folder.

How Do You Run Multiple Monitors On Linux
TJ213 replied to TJ213's topic in Websites and Web Designing
okay, thanks. When I stopped upgrading linux, fedora was still unstable. If I run 5, since it is unstable, might it also mess up my windows XP boot, or is that safe. Also, will the install for Fedora Core 4 take care of setting up a new dual boot, and let me delete or install over the old red hat partitions, since my desktop only has 200gig hard drive space (which I filled up in 5 weeks) -
yeah, you are probally right. That's why I bought an HP, I bought (and still have, it is about 2 years old) an HP desktop and I got great tech support from HP. Although the hardware wasn't really that good.I then bought the computer I'm tying on now (about 2/3 of a year ago) It is a Pavilion zd8000 laptop. This thing is a beast, it weighs 12 pounds, and the power brick looks industrial strength. It does draw 150 Watts. It also has a 17" monitor, Dual Layer DVD burner, came with some crappy printer I gave away, 512 MB DDR400 ram, 256MB ATI Radeon X600, 3.2 Gig P4 HT, and 80 gig 5400 RPM HDD. It also came with 2 remotes, has PCI express, express card, dual tuner, FM tuner, oh yeah, and it gets 45min. on the battery. One word of advice, if you plan to travel with this, find a good chiropracter.Anyways, HP used to have great service, but now I get some foreign guy (I don't have anything against them, but I liked to talk to people in the US better) who I can't understand, and instead of knowing the answer, looks it up in the corporate database.Oh, btw, is the grill thing in front of the speaker broken too?And a great way to increase the volume and clarity of the sound is to cup you hands around the speakers, and kinda angle the sound twoards you. Of course my zd8000, tank size laptop, has great harman kardon speakers in the front, which don't work to well if it is on your lap, but if you put this thing on your lap, your likely to burn off something you will miss later.

I think SP2 Is definitly worth it. Windows was so unstable when it came out, and Microsoft no longer supports pre-SP1, and they will probally soon stop supporting SP1 also.So it takes forever to download, just set it up overnight, or get broadband (that's what I did)You probally want to keep that balloon, and listen to it. The updates are important. Windows is so flawed, that without these updates, it is very easy to have your computer hacked / "killed".

Cancer Cure? Anyone Know If This Is True?
TJ213 replied to KewlKC07's topic in Science and Technology
I doubt there is one cure for cancer, and if there was, and we discovered it, it would be all over the news. I remember a couple of months back WIRED magazine talked of a couple of ways to cure cancer that might be ready by 2025, but when there is a major discovery it will be all over the news. -

I heard that the Fedora Core wasn't stable, is this still true? If not, what do you think whould be the best distribution?
