so redhat is no more. just when i finally got the ver 9 last year. Tryed it but could never get it to work the way I know it should. still think part of my problem was my service provider changing my ip every 24 hr's other not knowing linux very well. will try again later but not now its a shame we lost another free platform.

Have at least 4 working and one non working pc. Want to get a server but un sure of which to get. Think I need to stay away from linux for I dont know anoff to mount programs to run on them and not anoff programs I know how to use. I'm leaning towards a windows base server. Think microdot is coming out with a new windows server soon think its called longhorn. Also waiting for compation too our cable company to get into our area. For I can get a deacated ip address from them for 10 bucks more amonth. With the cable company I have now they want 150 amonth so its just out of my reach and my ip changes every 24 hrs so i cant run a server and host my own web pages very easy. For with out a fixed point to come too you will have to host on a server away from your busness or home. I know I may of got of topic but it is my dream to have my own server and host my own pages and my own doman name.

Its kinda lame but thats really the only reason we all are here to get the hosting. Im from Texas. Did live in LA calif for awile. But would I go back no-way could never affored to live their. Here a 2000 sq ft home costs around 80-200k depending on the location, Wile the same size home in LA be 2 to 4 times that much and if on the ocean 8 to 20 times as much. My job is transferable but the wage be about the same no matter where I whent. So I stay here

vizskywalker: Awile back I had installed Red Hat Linux 9.0 on this computer I now using. Every thing worked fine but my lan card. I could see the other computers on the network. So I figured the card was fine. But I couldnt gain acsess to them or them to this computer The best I could figure was a lang problem. Windows ver Linux. Yet my burner was unreconised at all. From all sorces I would have to write my own driver for it. Found that site throught google under linux for all information dealing with Linux forget the sites name. Know I didnt help you much but hey I decided windows alot easyer to use than Linux is.

What I have seen is alot of people confuse virus and other items as hijackers and those pesty adds that show up on ones computer. I run adaware 6.0 / no adware / and ad ware 3.0 / also EZ firewall. Once you block the adds from poping up you can run the traces from the other programs I mentioned to clean your drives. I also run a virus checker but it allways show the same nothing detected. Only thing that annoys me now is I have to turn off my pop up blocker at so many sites just to move around them. When it be so easy to just insert a line code into the page where the new page is replacing the page you were on not creating a new page as they do now. I belive I can ajust settings in my computer to display the new page on the origial page but I'm Not sure.

Myself I just save them to a rewritable cd and lock it away. Where you want to put the cd is up to your imagnation. That way its not on your computer for someone to find by chance. Another good hiding spot is mix the cd in with all the rest of your cd's.

beginning to think that HP needs to go back to there think tank and re think of what parts they use in there computers. My daughter's hp 230 had a power surge due to lighting in the area. From what I figure is it fried the power supply. For there is no power going to the on/off switch or to the cpu/fan. I tryed a different power supply and the lights and power to the fan worked but nothing else. So it leads me to belive that the power suppy needs to be replaced. For the one I used to test with was from a older computer when the power needed was far lower. Our own hp is a 700n just locks up every now and then for no reason. From what I figure is a custom computer is better than some of these store bought computers. The one in the office I built out of leftover parts and its a old 900 cpu and the hp think its a 2.3 cpu more than likely wronge on it. But the 900 has 192 ram half of the hp but it sure seems twice as fast as the hp.

infamous was suprise you were able to get online with all that speed you have their. As for the speed of my connection its on par with the rest of this thread. For most providers all have the same connection speed for their coustmers. What slows most of us down is all the line noise. Line noise is well all of us online. At different times of the day we may run acrossed a area of the net where too many of us are trying to pass through and our connection slows to a crawl. Both up loads and downloads are affected by too many online at the same time.

When I first started to create web pages I just placed everything into one large file. That soon got to be a pain in the rear. To find one item I would have to scroll for ever to find what i needed. Then I started to create sub folders such as index/happy/day/fast.html I think most get my point. I just started using a mixture of folders and link to folders such as this: tom.html which has a folder linked to it called tom_files and in that folder all gifs and backgrounds and other on call items for that page are placed. then sub directoryes as a tree would have. Would like to hear from other what they do to keep there pages in order and easy to manage.

I been with a IBM clone for the longest time. Try to start up a red hat server but got no where with the programing. Like the easy way to load programs on pc's It is a pain to load on a linx base computer. Dont care for mac computer ever sence my first taste with the old amiga computer put out by comador in the early to mid 80's. I been building computers for the last 20 years. I up grade one and save the parts build another and give the old one to the kids in the neighborhood that need a computer. But before they can take it home there parents must come over to pick it up.

Read what they offer here. But I'm more concered on how well the cgi reacts. with in html pages. Been having a hard time finding a free service to try the cgi out on have a small working knowlage of it. But I could use help with it. Im better at html. Have a site located on a russian server but suport there is nill. Feel these forums will help me alot I look forward to working with those that know more than I do. One thing I not sure of is how I tie a cgi script with a html page so one works with in the other such as a login scipt written in cgi and a password creater to work within the login window. A good example would be where a person creates a personal password. and stores it within my login data base so they and no one else can use there password to gain acsess to there information. I'm trying to build a game and first step is the creation of the password creater and the login. Then creat the random pages that are needed. But that falls under the cgi help I need. The out line of the game and look of the game I hve already made. So I'm half way there. So help with the password loger and login script is first order. Looking forward to the help.
