I disagree with that. I don't think Windows is the worst. If so, then why is everybody using it? It is very user friendly, I don't see the average user using Debian... There are probably a lot of distributions that are more user friendly than Debian, but personnaly I don't think they are as user friendly as Windows.

Hello,This is not so very hard to do:You should have an internet connection that is fast enough for several computers.Don't attach anything to the WAN port of the router, only LAN ports. Then, make sure you are not running any firewalling software on the pc with the dailup connection or configure the firewall properly.Next, download some internet connection sharing software with NAT (you can do this with Windows XP, but I really don't like it, it doesn't work as good as other software packages in my oppinion), you can find this on google.Those package should enable the other computers to surf the net without any configuration on those computers. Minor configuration might be necessary on the dailup computer but that should be explained in the ICS-software manual.Ofcours, the disadvantage of this setup is that the dailup computer should alway be running for any other pc to access the internet. A better solution would be to just buy an modem with an ethernet interface...

Yes, some (maybe most) linux distributions are set-up from the start to connect to a Windows Network.I used Debian Woody, I had to partly configure it myself but Apt-get does a lot for me .

Well, you can't really blame them for that in my oppinion. It is a beta version so you can't expect to have no bugs or that it will even work on your system.The latest beta builds show a lot improvement over the earlier ones (otherwise the situation would not be looking very good for Microsoft ). I am kinda excited about the new 3D desktop but for the rest, I don't think Longhorn will be that mindblowing as Microsoft is trying to make it seem.

Anyone heard of Hitman Pro? This is an application which downloads AdAware, Spybot S&D, ... and automatically runs them in batch. I don't know much about Mac's but I do believe that you can connect your Mac to a Windows network without much problems.I do have some experience with Linux and I can tell you that this works perfectly. You need a package named Samba (SMB) and you need to have your kernel compiled with SMB support (I think most standard kernels already have this).You might need to do a little research on stuff like the Master Browser to get every finetuned...

For me there isn't really any comparison of the two products, I use them for different things. For my daily desktop work, I use Windows XP because I find it easier to work with, I am used to it. But for running FTP/Mail/Samba/Gateway(router)/... I find Linux much better.For example: I used to have Windows 98 installed on a Pentium MMX 200MHz with 192MB RAM. This computer served as a router/gateway to share my ADSL connection with several computers, I also installed an FTP server (Bulletproof FTP server I believe). I could only get a dissappointing 800KB/s max transferrate when transferring files to and from this computer with FTP. A couple of years ago I installed Debian on this computer instead of Windows. I did not install any window manager, so just text-based... I compiled my own kernel so the system would run as fast as possible. Now this computer serves as an E-mail gateway, Samba server, FTP server and router. The max transferrate with FTP lies arround 5000KB/s now! That's a huge difference and it really shows the advantages of a linux system in this environment. Edit: I forgot to mention: Windows 98 would need a reboot several times a week, now that Linux is installed I can keep the PC running for months without a reboot!

Thanks for letting us know! I'm currently running the linux drivers on a Debian Box and I think the driver does have some bugs. For example, sometimes when I type 'StartX' in the console, the screen blanks for a couple of seconds and then jumps back to the console with an error message. If I try again right after this, it works . So I don't think it is a configuration error.I hope this new driver also solves this problem...

Azureus is written in Java so I suppose it works under Linux. I'm currently running this under Windows and I find it to be a really great piece of software! The only feature I miss is the ability to shut down the computer when all transfers are finished...

I do think some of the games you mentioned work natively under Linux. Either directly by an installer on the CD-ROM or by downloading one from the games' website. I think this is true for Doom 3, I'm not sure for the others.I don't think Wine allready has full support for DirectX yet, so I don't think Wine is an option. I only have experience running Wolfenstein: ET and Quake III on a linux box (natively)...
