  1. windowblinds is just a pain. like many people have said it's a resource hog. i just don't think a drag in my performance is worth making things all cutesy. but i haven't had any problems with bootskin and winlogon yet at all. hte reason that bootscreens ahve lower res is because on win 2000 they have to. it's the way windows is built. it should work fine on xp, mine has the same quality as the orginal boot screen. and i haven't had a single problem with my customized homestarrunner logon! but that's just my 2 cents.
  2. yeah, there's still a lot of work to do on it. dan and i just started on it and he's in california for a few days, so it's all on hold right now. i know basic stuff about web design but i'm gonna let dan get it done before i fiddle with it.
  3. my solution is to be a pain..just build your site for the browser you want...down with everyone else!!! hahahhah (sinister laugh)...
  4. i was reading the cnet review and they mentioned that the HD shuts down a lot to save power and all hte stuff for the apps you have open sticks in the RAM. so it's good if you only have a few lite programs open, but if you get a few too many open, or any time you do something new, it has to spin up the hard disk so you have a six second wait and everything locks til it finishes what it's doing. not that big of a deal i guess, but some people might find that annoying.Ray J Gentry IV
  5. well, when i first posted in this thread, i didn't have a blog, but it's up now on my site-in-progress. so if you want to check it out, i have the link here. but a warning...there's really nothing interesting LOL. but if you still want to...here you go: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Ray J Gentry IV
  6. I'm pretty excited to see longhorn when it comes out. I definately won't have the cash to get it for a while, but I'm ok with that. I'll let them work out the bugs and get things situated before I bother turning my whole system over. I think MS has been moving in the right direction. Windows XP isn't by any means perfect, but nothin is and i enjoy it. I just hope Longhorn looks a little more classy rather than the bubble-gum graphics xp has (start button mainly). but I have windows put back to 2000 style with a custom color theme and that suits me just fine. I think it'll be a solid OS and am excited to see what they do. And honestly, I have no real need to actually move to another OS. It does what I want and I don't have any problems with it.Ray J Gentry IV
  7. Well, according to the report, even if it did hit earth, it would only cause local damage and have regional impacts. and since it won't be visible from the US, i'd say it'd be ok if it hit somwhere else. i mean, whaddya do? haha. jk i wouldn't want anyone to be hurt by it. but it's good to know even if they're wrong we could probably (hopefully?) figure out where it would impact and get everyone out if we needed.or we could just build a really big trampoline and and launch it into a new orbit. i think that'd be the best idea. then no one gets hurt and no property is damaged. plus after the asteriod was launched back from earth we could all get together, drink some booze and bounce on the trampoline in jubilation! woo hoo!!....wow, i think it's time for bed....yes...need....sleep...Ray J Gentry IV
  8. Yeah, so i decided I didn't really like it. The concept is cool, but i just didn't get hooked on the idea, so the toolbar became more of a burden than a cool idea. oh well. Maybe if they adjust a few things and all that i'll check it out again and give it another try.Ray J Gentry IV
  9. Looks like an interesting tool. I might give it a try just to kill some time and boredom this evening. i'll post again once i decide whether i like it or not. I guess I'll have to find out what exactly it's about and go from there!Ray J Gentry IV
  10. I know that to upgrade, I need 30 hosting credits, but since they list the hosting credits in days, how do i know when I get enough to upgrade my account? I'm not to the point where i need to yet (sites not up) but I'd like to know for when I need to.Ray J Gentry IVNevermind. i'm a moron. i found the hosting stuff. just didn't look near hard enough. i apologize if anyone go this read before i changed it. mods can delete this if they want since i'm a little slowray j gentry iv
  11. OK, so my next logical question is this:What is Your Favorite Strong Bad Email???Let me know what they are, maybe we'll turn this into a survey or something once I get a few answers or something! Keep Rocking the Homestar Runner Website!! w00t!There is a new Strong Bad email this week. Very Funny :)Ray J Gentry IV
  12. mine's nothing special either, but i built it myself, so it's something to have some pride about :)AMD Athlon XP 2000512 MB DDR RAM128 MB Radeon 4x AGP Video Card2 40 Gig Hard DrivesSound Blaster Live SoundcardDLink Wireless Network Cardso yeah. i'm gonna get a new processor this summer i think...so probably a new motherboard too. i also have Altec Lansing Speakers, a 17 in monitor, and a wireless keyboard and mouse. it works for me and i love it! :)Ray J Gentry IVoh yeah, and a DVD burner and a DVD-ROM drive
  13. that's definately a great point. xp looked so bubblegum it drove me nuts. i got rid of the crappy xp gui for the W2000 gui with some custom colors and all that. at least it has options to get rid of that. but xp made a big break into consumer computing cause for some crazy reason a lot of people liked it. i htink it was just cause it was comfortable and NOT computer like. y'know? that made people less nervous. but that doesn't make it an inherently good system, although it made big steps into people's comfort zone, which for microsoft, is really important. gotta keep thier huge market portion.and i agree that windows is definately not necesarrily the "best" system ever, but like i said, people got comfortable and they'll use it. GUI is easy, yeah, you lose functionality, but most people don't need anything more than windows gives them. people who do know how to work around the things windows lack, or they use alternates. kinda just the way the world works i guess.Ray J Gentry IV
  14. TROGDOR!!! hahahaha. trogdor is definately awesome! i wish that i had a dragon with a muscle arm growing out of his neck haha. yeah, if you haven't checked out the site, do it and get back to me! i want to see some opinions of people who are new to it. so i guess i'm kinda pulling for the brothers chap on this thread and helping them out hehehe.another site using flash to make (really really) sick twisted cartoons is the happy tree friends. that's messed up stuff right there! well, i'm gonna make a few posts and head to bed. catch you all later!
  15. i love my gmail accounts so much. i can use outlook to get all my mail and not have to check it online. the amount of space they offer is amazing (but somewhat irrelevant to me since i download my mail) but it's nice i can leave a copy on their server and look at it online whenever i want. i guess i haven't explored it too thoroughly, just been using it for the simple things, but it's been an awesome service in my opinion!Ray J Gentry IV
  16. well, i was looking through their faq section and since they started selling merch i think they went full time... i mean i'm sure they still have other things on the side, but they consider it more than a hobby. so yeah...but i'll check into that again and see if i'm mistaken.
  17. i've been using amd ever since i built my first computer (on number 3 now) so i recommend amd hardcore. the chips have worked amazingly well. although my current amd xp 2000 has a jpeg rendering error so i get some problems in IE (which i don't use, so i don't have the problem) and on my divx movies, but i'm still gonna stick with them and get at least a 3000 this summer. if money works out better for me i'll buy a new motherboard and a faster chip. but we'll just have to see.
  18. don't forget the upgradeable 20 gig removeable harddrive, HD capability on HD tv's with adjusted resolution depending on your tv. i like the HD incorporation a lot.
  19. i already enjoy it here a lot. i'm not a total nerd, so there's always someone who knows tons more than me, but i feel i've got a decent grasp on this sort of stuff. i've already felt very welcomed and enjoy the variety in the forum. two thumbs up for all you...and i guess me now!Ray J Gentry IV
  20. Microsoft's largest security issue isn't that what they make is inherently bad, it's just that it's so widespread that it's easy for someone to make something to exploit the OS (or any other product) and have a massive impact. I'm not at all saying Windows is definitively the best, but that it's biggest problem is being so popular, not solely crappy programming. Well, that's my 2 cents...Ray J Gentry IV
  21. yeah it's all flash. from what i understand they're self taught. a couple of brothers and a girlfriend or something. one does the animation, another brother does the voices and the girlfriend does marzipan. they come up with the stuff together. i love it. i wish i could come up with something like that and make a living screwing around! LOLRay J Gentry IV
  22. just wanted to say hi! the name's Ray. i'm a 23 year old college student from south dakota. i'm looking at getting a site here. a friend of mine is making me a site and i'm stoked to get it up here and see how things look.i'm into music a lot. everything but country pretty much. i play guitar and am a soccer kid. i'm in SigEp (Sigma Phi Epsilon). if you want to talk or have anything in common, give me a hollar!!Ray J Gentry IV
  23. i don't currently have a blog, but it's for sure on my to-do list. i like hte idea of being easily able to keep my far away friends updated with what i'm doing. i have a lot of friends more than five hours away and am not hte best at getting to them individually. the concept of being able to just hop on here and announce what i'm doing is great. then people can check up on me at their leisure. sounds like a great idea to me. :(Ray J Gentry IV
  24. i've got a sandisk cruzer mini too...a 128 mb....i love it. totally awesome. it's a good disk and i've never had any trouble with it...now if only i can find it.....Ray J Gentry IV
  25. one of my most prized possessions is my strongbad emails dvd. i love it. i think my favorite email of all time is the "children's book". i highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it! keep up the info! i'm so glad i have someone to talk about this with!!
